A Real Daredevil !

Ben Affleck....

A Real Daredevil in the Comic Book Based Movie !!

Ben Affleck was born as Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt in Berkeley, California, to Tim Affleck, who was a social worker, and Chris Boldt, a school teacher.

At eight years of age, Affleck met ten-year-old Matt Damon who lived two blocks away in Cambridge. Affleck and Damon would later attend Cambridge Rindge and Latin School together, although they were in different year groups.

Ben came to national attention in 1997 when he and best friend Matt Damon wrote the screenplay for and starred in Good Will Hunting.

After other sucessful films, Affleck starred in Daredevil, a 2003 movie directed by Mark Steven Johnson, who also wrote the screenplay. The movie is based on the Marvel comics character, using predominantly the 'grim and gritty' stories written by Frank Miller.

As a sidenote, Ben subsequently dated his Daredevil co-star, actress Jennifer Garner who portrayed Elektra, and the two were engaged. In May 2005, it was announced that Garner was pregnant and the couple were married on June 29, 2005 in the Caribbean. Garner gave birth to a daughter, Violet Anne Affleck, on December 1, 2005.

I started with the Daredevil Comic Book when it first appeared in print, back in 1964, and stopped reading it in 1974... so I missed the change to the 'Grim and Gritty' aspect by Frank Miller and others in the 1980's.

The Daredevil Movie and the Elektra Movie that featured Jennifer without Ben, were both of a 'Grim and Gritty' Style,' but I still enjoyed both of them, mainly because of Jennifer!

For those interested in the Daredevil comic books, we have several listed in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store, including the comic to the right! We also have a few Elektra comics that Jennifer Garner portrayed, just click on the cover to the right!

Halle Berry.... on Sunday's Parade Magazine Cover

Halle Berry Was

 Cover Featured....

... on Last Sunday's Parade Magazine with a long article inside.

After a suicide attempt and rocky relationships, she had plenty to say to the Parade interviewer.

It's a shame that her personal life hasn't matched her professional life in achievements and success.

She says she is in love again, (after two bad marriages), and comments that her sights on set on Motherhood.

Hopefully the third time, (if it happens), would be the charm for her married life.

Tina and I have seen her at the SDCC, (San Diego Comi-Con International), enjoyed her program promoting 'Gothika' and wish her well for her personal future.

We both enjoyed her as 'Storm' in the X-Men movies, and I enjoyed her in the 'Catwoman' movie, although the script was lame !  I have thought for a long time that she looks better with shorter hair, as when she was the 'Bond Girl' Jinx in the 2002 James Bond thriller 'Die Another Day' !

For those interested in Batman comic books, some of which feature Catwoman that Halle has portrayed, we have several for sale in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Comic Book Pro Store.

Thanks for reading our blog post....

Boris Karloff's

Thriller / Tales of Mystery.....

...was a licensed comic book series from Gold Key Comics.

The series ran for 97 issues from October 1962 to February 1980.

The first two issues were titled: Boris Karloff Thriller, which was the name of the TV Show that was running at the time, and then the title was changed with issue number three.

Thriller, the TV Show, was, along with The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, one of the best anthology television series of the 1960s, running from 1960-1962 on NBC-TV.

The TV show featured host Boris Karloff, who introduced an entertaining mix of macabre horror tales and suspense thrillers. The TV Show was created by Hubbell Robinson for Revue Studios, (which was later purchased by Universal Studios), and produced by Fletcher Markle, William Frye, and Maxwell Shane.

The comic book for those that have not read one before, could be compared to Gold Key's Twilight Zone comic, or to DC Comics' The Unexpected. This series was a popular one for Gold Key, and lasted eighteen years after the demise of the TV Show!

For those interested in Boris Karloff's Tales of Mystery comic books, we have several unslabbed and CGC slabbed comics listed in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store. Thank you for reading this comic book blog post and feel free to post YOUR comment!

Red Sonja... Sword and Sorcery At Its' Best ??
Mood:  bright

BRIGITTE NiELSEN as Red Sonja

In The Comic Book Based Movie

Brigitte Nielsen, (born July 15, 1963 in Denmark), became very popular in the 1980s doing B-movies, most notably as the lead character in Red Sonja, due to her stature, (she stands at 6 ft 1 in tall), and sultry looks.

Because of these physcial attributes, she was termed an "Amazon" by the world press, and was typecast in her early movie years.

Red Sonja, our post topic, is a 1985 sword and sorcery/action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger with Brigitte Nielsen as the title character. The film was shot in Italy, on location in Celano and Abruzzi, near Rome and at the Stabilimenti Cinematagrafici Pontini studios.

The movie itself, due to being a sword and sorcery film, does have some violent action, which was toned down in the comic books due to the comics being submitted to the Comics Code Authority.

Arnold had previously played Conan in two Conan the Barbarian movies, but in this movie was basically playing a supporting role to Brigitte's lead role.

Talking about Conan, In Conan the Barbarian movie, it was Sandahl Bergman who played Valeria, a thief and the love of Conan’s life. She was offered the role of Red Sonja, but turned it down, choosing instead to play the villainous Queen Gedren in the Red Sonja movie.

It took Dino De Laurentiis the prodcuer, almost a year to find an actress "Amazonian" enough to play the Red Sonja role; in fact, it is said that he was still looking eight weeks before the production was due to start, when he saw Brigitte Nielsen on the cover of a fashion magazine.

Personally, I just don't see Bergman in the Red Sonja role, I liked the choice of Brigitte, altho I have not seen most of her other movies, other than Rocky IV and Cobra with Sylvester Stallone.

There was only one Red Sonja movie, not the trilogy of films that we see today, Marvel just didn't have good luck in having comic book based movies produced back in the 1980's or even into the 1990's. Hopefully the movies in production under their direction supervision will fare better!

For those interested in Red Sonja comic books, we have them listed in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store.
