Continuing For About Twenty Weeks...

A 'Wovel'

Titled

 "Firstworld"

By Jemiah Jefferson

I recently became Facebook Friends with Jemiah Jefferson, who informed me a week ago that her newest creative work is being published in a 'wovel' format.

'Wovel'?  Yes, a 'wovel' !  And she informs me that it will continue online for about twenty weeks in total!

One of the newest publishers, Underland Press, has as an 'extra' on their web site, a "Wovel" (short for "web novel"); which is written in weekly installments, (currently by Jemiah!) and, at the end of each weekly chapter, the readers get to vote on the direction that the story takes!

The url to the wovel is provided here: underlandpress.com/wovel.cfm

(eBay doesn't allow 'hot links' in the eBay blog posts to non-eBay pages, so if you are reading this on our Blog's eBay format version, just copy and paste the url into your browser.)

So what happens to the 'wovel'?

Well.... The author first writes it. Then the readers vote on it. Here's how it works online:

"Every week, the author posts an installment. Installment length hits the sweet-spot of online reading—long enough to get interested, short enough to read in the cubicle at work. At the end of every installment, the author writes in a plot branch point. Does the heroine kill her lover? Will the zombies catch the soldier? Is the box empty, or is it filled with bees?"

THEN THE READERS DECIDE!

"On Monday, the post goes up. Voting is open through Thursday. The author writes Thursday and Friday. The editors edit Friday and Saturday. The post goes back up on Monday. Part literature, part exquisite corpse. The pace of print journalism, the imagination of fiction, the spark of reader participation."

Again, to follow along the storyline and vote on where the 'wovel' goes, you have to go to the url listed above, read it, and then vote. Then come back to the url to see where the readers/voters have decided where the author should take the story.... Sounds Cool? Try it !

For those that would like to know more about Jemiah, the following is a brief bio:

"Jemiah Jefferson was born in Denver, Colorado and started writing fiction at the age of twelve. Her publications include the novels Voice of Blood, Wounds, Fiend, and A Drop of Scarlet.... She has also written fiction, essays, and criticism for Willamette Week, Just Out, Plazm, and 2GRLZ Quarterly!"

Just bringing this author and her latest work to the attention of our blog readers, as Jemiah is also an Editor with Dark Horse Comics, as well as an accomplished Author! Jemiah has her own web site where you can keep up with her at jemiah.com !

Actually... There Is a John Carter Of Mars Film Adaptation...

Actually...

There Is a John Carter Of Mars Film Adaptation In The Works!

I want to thank a new customer, (and now also a new Facebook Friend), Geoff Edwards, who brought to my attention that there is a John Carter of Mars Film being developed!

Geoff read my blog post of November 28th, which asked why "Buck Rogers Being Made Into A Film Again...", for the umpteenth time, when John Carter of Mars has not been seen in a major theatrical film ever!

What Geoff sent me were links to info that Pixar is scheduling a 'John Carter of Mars' film to hopefully be released in 2012!

A recent announcement told of Andrew Stanton (the Pixar - creator/director of Wall*E) writing a film treatment for Edgar Rice Burrough's character!

With the background that Andrew Stanton has, (he was also involved with 'Finding Nemo', Ratatouille, Toy Story 2 and more in different roles), this project would have a good chance of finding an audience at the theaters!

For those that don't know... there have been at least four attempts to film or animate John Carter's adventures since 1931... I may have to wait till 2012, but it is now very hopeful that I'll be able to be in line at the theater for it finally!

For those interested in reading the adventures in illustrated format of John Carter to catch up with him; we do have several of the different versions of the John Carter Comics run listed in our eBay Featured Store.

For those of you that are new to our blog today, we have an ongoing 'Comic Con, Science Fiction Show, and Pop Culture Convention'  here at "Make It So Marketing Inc.", what with our daily blog posts and new listings of items for sale in our online eBay Featured Store!

Thanks for reading this blog post today, and please join us again for more!

And, Thanks again to Geoff Edwards for reading my recently archived blog post on John Carter, and emailing me about the news about the new project!!

He Was The Masked Avenger Of The West!

He Was The Masked Avenger Of The West!

 Lance Temple...  The Outlaw Kid!

In a previous blog post I had stated that my early childhood period was during the late 1950's to early 1960's, when westerns on TV and in comics were part of my everyday life.

Today as Tina and I are going to an 80th Birthday Brunch for my Dad, I am reflecting on those earlier simplier times when I was a kid in his household and watched those TV Shows and read those western comics...

In that earlier blog post I also mentioned that of the 'Big Three Westerns' that Marvel Comics printed in the 1960's, (Rawhide Kid, Kid Colt, and Two-Gun Kid), it was Kid Colt Outlaw that was my personal favorite western character!

All three of the above characters were also in earlier comic book series besides their own title.  Before taking the name 'Marvel Comics' in the early 1960's, the company that Stan Lee worked at had been called 'Atlas Comics' during the 1950's. That was a 'boom time' for western comics for several comic book companies!

Among Atlas Comics' western line of comics was the character 'The Outlaw Kid'. His own title lasted for 19 issues from September 1954 to September 1957.

Today I enjoy reading these and the other Atlas western comics for the artwork. However there were so many western comics being published at the time in the 1950's, that the ones with photo covers from the TV Western Shows were the ones that drew me to collect them!  Unfortunately Atlas Comics didn't have any of those licensed properties. Matter of fact their own Wyatt Earp Comics were not the TV Show's licensed comics and so I read the Dell Comics with the Hugh O'Brian photo covers instead!

Funny thing was... When Marvel Comics started flooding the newstands in the early 1970's with their comics expansion, The Outlaw Kid was brought back in both new and old stories. His second series ran from #1 in August 1970 to #30 in October of 1975.

It was then that I read all the old stories that I missed as a young kid. So the reprint westerns were actually a good thing for readers that found it hard to find the originals. We didn't have eBay or LCBS back then to find copies. Mail order and comic cons were the main way to find them!

However the westerns basically saw an end at the 1970's when the genre simply rode away into the Old West folklore...

Today I find that westerns are seeing a resurgence both in film and in the comics field. With the Jonah Hex western comic book movie to be released, this genre should show even more collectability in the next few years.  Actually the majority of our western comics have been sold overseas to international buyers the last couple of years...

And... Happy 80th Birthday Dad! Thanks for the memories!

P.S. My Dad who said he would never have a computer, has his own craft store on his web site, a blog, and an eBay Store!  You can see his eBay Store where he sells cartoon whirlis and other models of whirligigs by clicking this link here. He says hand crafting whirlibirds "keeps him off the streets", LOL!  He has over 170 different models that he hand crafts so that definitely keeps him busy sawing and painting!
