TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3108:

Okay, I've been blogging about who's gonna be at the Wizard World Anaheim Comic Con for several days now...Including: Adam (Batman) West, Burt (Robin) Ward, Julie (Catwoman) Newmar, Yvonne (Batgirl) Craig, Richard (Captain Galaxy) Herd, Richard (Captain Apollo of BSG) Hatch, Stan (The Man) Lee... AND Tina and myself, among others!

So I'm going to make it easy for YOU to find US at the show if YOU are attending too!

Check out the photo of Tina, whom I often neglect to to feature here. There's also a photo of the back of both of our heads at the top right...that will come in handy since it is probably how you'll see us, yakking up a storm in Artists Alley, and with media guests during the show!

Tina says I am always easy to find because of my shiny bald head.  Of course, this is not so unique at comic cons!  So, a few cons ago, she asked me to wear a company shirt with the Blog's Name embroidered on it, so as to 'brand' myself, and make it easier for people who only know me by my blogs to actually spot me!

And yeah I really had fun wearing those comic book character t-shirts, but Tina was right, (yeah...as usual!), in that I am easier to recognize now.

So if You want to stop us, and say hello, feel free to do so. We will be spending most of our time at the tables in Artists Alley and the media guest booths on Friday and Sunday for sure.  Possibly a few hours on Saturday if we can make it, as we have a prior engagement to attend most of that day...

If you are a comics creator, with or without a table at the con, and want to hand us one of your publications for possible mention or review in this blog, feel free to do so.  I always carry a pouch to place those publications in.  And pause for a moment so I can snap your picture also with the publication, please!

So for the last time this week, as I don't believe I'll be blogging in between the convention days...If YOU plan to be in the Southern California area starting TODAY, Friday the 16th, be sure to check out at least 1 Day of this 3-Day Comic Con in Anaheim, California!

Here is the prelim info that you would need to find out when, where, and what the time the convention is at:

When: APRIL 16-17-18, 2010
FRI-SAT-SUN

Where:  Anaheim Convention Center
800 West Katella Avenue
Anaheim, CA 92802

Hours of the Con:

Fri:
    3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Sat:
    10:00 am - 7:00 pm
Sun:
    10:00 am - 5:00 pm

So how do YOU get tickets, ask information and be interactive with this Wizard World Comic Con Anaheim?

Well... You can do so by joining their Facebook Fan Page right here for one,  AND / OR You can go direct to their web site here to see who else is appearing and buy tickets online: Wizard World Anaheim.

Okay, that's it for this blog post this morning... Be Sure to check out the above links and make plans to attend at least ONE of the THREE Days in Anaheim!

My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now over the 3,100 total posts in number!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3107:

The name of this blog is: Comic Book Collectors Blog, even though at times I get side tracked on other comics / pop culture related topics, LOL...

Today, I'm blogging about the fact that Facebook Friend, Tim Lasiuta, posted the above shown original artwork to to the cover used for Roy Rogers Comics #83 which was published by Dell Comics in November of 1954!

Tim came across the cover while researching for his upcoming book on an aspect of Roy Rogers, which hopefully I'll share here in several months with you.

The cover artwork was designed by Arnold C Holeywell, who designed at least four other comic book cover for Dell Comics in the period of 1953-54, as seen at this link: Arnold Holeywell at GCD.

Quite honestly, I had never seen the 'credits' for this issue or the other comics listed in the above link, so was curious as to what else Arnold had created.

It appears that Arnold retired from his Design Director position at Time-Life Books sometime in his career and went on to pursue his love of watercolor paintings.  He also worked in oil, of which I saw a couple on the web.

'Googling' his full name as "Arnold C Holeywell", I found about 16,600 listings!  The earlier pages of links listings showed a lot of entries for 'Field & Stream' magazine in the 1950's.  I could see from his paintings on the Dell Comics Covers, that he would have been perfect for painting those magazine covers also!

My thanks to Tim Lasiuta for sharing the above find on his Facebook member wall. BTW, Tim is currently the International Licensing Director for Jack Lake Productions, a Contributing Editor at Moonstone Books, as well as a Project Consultant for his own Tim Lasiuta Creative Services.  He definitely is a busy guy!

Oh, and an earlier work that I somehow missed is his book on Joe Sinnott, who is one of my favorite pencillers / inkers.  That book is titled "Brush Strokes With Greatness: The Life & Art of Joe Sinnot". Being a life long fan of the Fantastic Four, I don't know how I missed that one!

And...My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now over the 3,100 total posts in number!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3106:

Stan (The Man) Lee will be at Wizard World Anaheim Comic Con...'NUFF SAID!

Which would be so true, except I have a blog post to fill!

Suffice to say that Stan Lee is The Man who helped turn the comics industry around in the early 1960's along with other co-creators of what became the Marvel Universe.

I have blogged several times about Stan Lee here... because it was one of his comic book stories along with the fantastic Jack Kirby and Dick Ayer's artwork that caused me to stop just reading comics and start reading AND collecting comics!  For that story, click this link to see what Journey Into Mystery #72 did to me !

As a matter of fact, when I started blogging my 'Whom I Am Thankful For' series of blog posts at Thanksgiving time, Stan was the first person that I blogged about in this comics / pop culture blog. Here's a link to the latest Thanksgiving blog post from 2009 that recaps that original blog post and others, including Jack Kirby that I've added since:  Whom I Am Thankful For 2009!

In other blog posts about this upcoming Wizard World in Anaheim, I've posted links to bios.  I'm not going to do that here today, as Stan Lee is so well known to comic book fans and mainstream movie goers.

However, I am going to post a link here to Stan's Facebook Fan Page, where his publicist posts updates as to what Stan is doing, and where You can post comments and even wall posts!  There are currently over 24,000 Fans there.  His first Facebook presence, his 'Member Page' was maxed out at the 5,000 limit of 'Friends' in less than a week! Here's the link to the Fan Page: Stan Lee Facebook Fan Page!

Anyways, if YOU plan to be in the Southern California area THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND, and are a fan of Stan Lee, or any of his creations, be sure to check out this 3-Day Comic Con in Anaheim, California! But Please Note:  Stan will be there ONLY on SATURDAY!

To The Bottom Left:  Michael D Hamersky With Richard Hatch at an Earlier Comic Con!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3105:

Richard Hatch will be at Wizard World Comic Con Anaheim...And that will be sure to please his many fans from the Original Battlestar Galactica Series, as well as those that know him from the recent TV Series where he played 'Tom Zarek'!

Of course he is also known for other roles. A brief bio follows here:

"Richard Hatch has enjoyed international recognition for more than three decades. He has starred in such series as The Streets of San Francisco for which he won Germany’s Bravo Award (the equivalent of an Emmy Award), Battlestar Galactica, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe award and the role of Philip Brent, which he originated on ABC’s All My Children. Richard is currently playing the role of Tom Zarek in the new re-imagined version of Battlestar playing on the Sci-fi channel and has just written a BG manga for Tokyopop focusing on his character."

The above excerpt was taken from this page:

I have seen Richard at a few other comic cons, most of which I was in packed rooms with others listening to him.  Recently I was able to meet him personally up close and get a few photos for my blog. Above are just two of them.

I found Richard to be a very busy guy, but he took the time to talk with me about some of his projects, including the book he was holding in the photo above.

His own 'Official Web Site' is at http://www.RichardHatch.com .

Anyways, if YOU plan to be in the Southern California area THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND, and are a fan of Battlestar Galactica, be sure to check out this 3-Day Comic Con in Anaheim, California!  If nothing else, if YOU are a Fan of any of the shows mentioned in the bio excerpt posted above, be there just to see Richard!

BTW, I would also give you the link to Richard's Facebook Fan Page, but it doesn't appear he has started one as of this posting... I'm Facebook Friends with him, but don't want to flood his own personal FB member account with Friends Requests at this time.

Anyways...So when is this  Wizard World Anaheim Comic Convention that YOU can drop in and see Richard Hatch?  Who BTW, is scheduled to be there all three days...

Well, here is the prelim info that you would need:

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3104:

Today we have a Guest Blogger, Vinnie, who is blogging his review on the 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' Film on DVD. Take it away, Vinnie!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine DVD

"This movie tells the story of Wolverine when he was a boy that leads to the first film of the X-Men Trilogy.

This movie is a story that goes way back when Wolverine was younger. It started in Canada, in the year 1845, where we see two boys growing up amongst violence. These two boys soon showed incredibly special powers. Then the movie advances forward through time as they start fighting through successive wars together, seeming to be near-invincible, and hardly aging.

I liked the action which takes a major role in this movie as with a helicopter scene where Wolverine ends up crashing the helicopter.

What I also liked about the action is that the characters used different fighting styles such as swords, fists, and guns instead of in most movies like this, just with guns. It just made it a little more interesting.

The humor, of course was funny, but also served as a way to break tension at the most suspenseful of times as with when Sabretooth and Wolverine meet again after Wolverine had adamantium attached to his bone structure. After Wolverine wielded his new claws, Sabretooth says,"Ooh, shiny," which is then lead into intense fighting amongst the two. What also made this movie better was that they weren't talking in monotone, they were using inflection in their voice to make the characters they were playing more realistic.

At some parts it would become too crowded with things going on that it would be hard to concentrate on everything, which at some points I liked, but other times, I didn't.

I recommend this movie to older audiences and comic book or X-Men lovers. I would recommend this to the older audience because of intense fighting going on in most scenes that may not be suitable for younger kids.

I would also recommend this to X-Men lovers or more in general, comic book lovers for the ideas deriving from the X-Men comicbook."

My thanks to Vinnie for watching the DVD version of the film with us, and blogging his thoughts here.

Please Note:  Vinnie is not an X-Men fan(atic), but has seen all three of the X-Men Films Trilogy before this recent film.  He did not see it in the theater, just on the DVD rental.

Vinnie's main interest is the 'Amazing Spider-Man' comic book title, of which his personal collection is growing.  He has also seen all three of the Spider-Man Films at the theater and on DVD.

He could be 'classified' as a young fan of Spider-Man and has an interest in some other comic books.  He is not a full blown collector nor reader of comics in general.  Thus he is probably closer to 'mainstream' viewership than a 'fan boy'.  Yet he is more knowledgeable of comics than the average mainstream reader or viewer of comics or comic book movies, having worked with me on comics buying / sorting / etc.  Thanks again, Vinnie!

And...My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now past the 3,100 total posts in number!!
