TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3097:

Batman AND The Batmobile will be at Wizard World Comic Con Anaheim...And being a child of the 1960's, when I say "Batman"... I mean 'Adam West', period!

So if you plan to be in Southern California less than two weeks from now, be sure to check out this 3-Day Comic Con in Anaheim, California!  If nothing else, if YOU are a Batman Fan, be there to see Adam West! BIG NOTE:  Adam West will be there only Friday and Saturday!!

The Batmobile is scheduled to be there all three days. I'm talking about the original 1960's TV Show Batmobile...The one to the left is one that I saw at a different comic con, that I'm posting here for comparison purposes to the one pictured at the top right of this blog post!

Below is just a brief bio on Adam West, who BTW now has a Facebook Fan Page.  You too can become a fan by clicking here: Adam West Fan Page. The excerpt of the bio is as follows:

"Adam West is a true American icon. From his humble beginning on a wheat ranch in Walla Walla, Washington, Adam skyrocketed to fame in Hollywood, pursuing an extraordinary career in entertainment that has spanned half a century. His role as Batman in the classic television series and feature of the same name continues to be seen throughout the world more than 40 years after its debut. While Batman, and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, remains his signature role, Adam has a multitude of motion picture, theater, and TV credits to his name.

He has made nearly 50 movies, including starring or co-starring roles in Drop Dead Gorgeous, The New Age, The Young Philadelphians, An American Vampire Story, Soldier in the Rain, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and Nevada Smith.

He has had starring roles in several TV series other than Batman, including The Detectives, The Last Precinct, and The Clinic. His theater credits include Volpone at the Mark Taper Forum at the Los Angeles Music Center.

Adam West has also lent his voice to animated characters in such well-known series as Family Guy, The Simpson, Rugrats, Batman, Animaniacs, Jonny Bravo, Spydogs, The Super Adventure Team, and many others. His voice-over work in animated film includes the roles of “Ace, Hollywood Chicken Little” in Disney’s Chicken Little, and “Uncle Art” in Disney’s Meet the Robinsons. In 2000, he also contributed the voice of “Leonard Fox” to the animated short, Redux Riding Hood, which went on to win an Academy Award nomination.

Adam West is the author of two books, (continued here at the web site that this excerpt is from..."

So when is this  Wizard World Anaheim Comic Convention that YOU can drop in and see Adam West and the Batmobile happening?

Well, here is the prelim info that you would need:

When: APRIL 16-17-18, 2010
FRI-SAT-SUN

Where:  Anaheim Convention Center
800 West Katella Avenue
Anaheim, CA 92802

Hours of the Con:

Fri:
    3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Sat:
    10:00 am - 7:00 pm
Sun:
    10:00 am - 5:00 pm

So how do YOU get tickets, ask information and be interactive with this Wizard World Comic Con Anaheim?  Well... You can do so by joinng their Facebook Fan Page right here for one,  AND / OR You can go direct to their web site here to see who else is appearing and buy tickets online: Wizard World Anaheim.

BTW,  I've already blogged about this upcoming comic con before, but my main reason on choosing Adam West / Batman / the Batmobile to feature here today is because....

Of the upcoming Batman Book that is being published this Fall of 2010 with a chapter that I have written in it.  The title of the book is: 'Gotham City 14 Miles'! The publication is a book of essays on the Batman TV Show from the 1960's by multiple authors, and it will be published by 'Sequart'! That would be the Sequart Research & Literacy Organization! Click here to view Sequart's Facebook Fan Page and become a fan, so you can get updates as the year progresses on this upcoming title!

Okay... enough about me, LOL! I just wanted to let you know about the 'connection' as I have been dropping 'hints' in this blog for a while.  My thanks to Jim Beard, Editor of the book for the original invite to participate in the project!

AND...My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now almost at the 3,100 total posts in number!  We'll be at that number this upcoming week!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3095:

This event is starting the same weekend that the WonderCon will be running...

So for those of YOU that are attending WonderCon for one or all three of those convention days; here's a chance to see even more comic art afterwards, even if you can't be there for the opening reception on April 3rd.

Here's the 'invite' that I received from Javier Hernandez:

End Time:     Sunday, May 9, 2010 at 5:00pm

So what's this all about? Here's the actual 'invite' that is open to all as shown on the Facebook Event Page created by Javier:

Hey friends in Northern Cal (or those attending WonderCon that weekend!):

I'm having a solo art show at the Encantada Gallery of Fine Arts in San Francisco April 3- May 9. I'll be at the Opening Reception on Saturday, April 3! If you're in the area, please come visit the show, I'd love to see you there!

On Sunday, April 4, I'll be conducting a Cartoonist Workshop for kids at the Gallery. Check out my blog for details:

BTW, Javier also states elsewhere, that he will also be at the Wonder Con itself on Friday per this message:

" FYI: On Friday, April 2, I'll be at Wondercon drawing at The Cartoon Art Museum's booth (#721)."

So, if you can only make it to the Con itself, stop by and say hi to Javier there!

And if you find yourself staying longer in San Francisco after the Wonder Con, or if you are residing in the Bay area, check out the above event, as it runs until May 9th!

Here is the link to the Event Page itself so YOU can be interactive with Javier and those that can make it: Facebook Event Page!

My thanks to Javier Hernandez for informing me of this upcoming event!  Tina and I won't be attending either the Con or the Solo Show, but I am glad I could tell my blog readers about these two happenings so that those in the area can make it!

Allen Bellman Featured At Cosmic Comic Connection!

To The Bottom Left:  Allen Bellman At A Recent Convention!

TODAY'S FEATURE:

I've been in contact quite a bit with Allen Bellman recently, ever since we've become Facebook Friends...

That's because he is a wealth of information on the early comics industry. Before I post where he will be headlined at, let me tell you just a little of what he has done in the World of Comics:

First I'm going to post a couple of links.

Here's the known credits for Allen Bellman's pencils in comics:

http://www.comics.org/penciller/name/allen%20bellman/sort/alpha/

Here's the known credits for Allen Bellman's inks in comics:

http://www.comics.org/inker/name/allen%20bellman/sort/alpha/

Okay... hopefully you are back now?!  Because if you are like me, you took a look at several of those credits while you were on those links!

Oh, and there are more credits that should be entered, but for those of you that don't know, 'credits' were not published usually during the Golden Age Of Comics!  So it is really good that today we have the Grand Comics Database to look at for info.  If you appreciate this resource, why don't you stop at their home page at: http://www.comics.org and click the 'Donate Button'?!

Okay, end of 'semi-commercial' for the GCD!

Back to Allen Bellman's Bio.  The following is from the 'Allen Bellman Fan Group' started by Jeff McLaughlin on Facebook:

"Allen Bellman was born in Manhattan and studied at the High School of Industrial Arts. He eventually became a staff artist at Timely during the Golden Age of comics. While still a teenager, he did the backgrounds for Syd Shores' Captain America in 1942, and eventually worked on titles such as: The Patriot, The Destroyer, The Human Torch, Jap Buster Johnson and Jet Dixon of the Space Squadron, All Winners Comics, Marvel Mystery, Sub Mariner Comics, Young Allies and so much more.

His self-created back-up crime feature Let's Play Detective. He also contributed to pre-Code horror, crime, war and western tales for Atlas. He worked in the comics field until the early 1950s.

After the publishing business Allen became a successful businessman, and after 18 years he moved down here to South Florida where he joined the art department of a major daily newspaper, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel. After that he went into photography. He won many nationwide photography contests, winning out more than 20,000 entries. Photography is the way he now creates. Hundreds of his photos have appeared in hardcover books, have been on exhibit in museums in Florida and received great reviews in numerous newspapers. He still attends comic books shows, and is still available for commissions. In one of his most recent interviews in the Miami Herald, he was described as an artist who now paints with his camera."

Here is a link to the Facebook Group Page so that YOU can join:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=231065759127

Okay, so now YOU know who Allen Bellman is, some of what he's penciled and inked, and what he has been doing since he left the field of comic books.

Here's where it gets even better!

You can see him headline the upcoming Cosmic Comic Connection at the Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando, Florida on April 10th of 2010!

For more information on the hours and the cost to see Allen PLUS the rest of the Center, here is the link to the landing page for that event:

http://www.thehistorycenter.org/node/172

Please Note:  Even though the Center has a Facebook Fan Page, they have Not posted an event page for this Cosmic Comic Connection as of this blog's posting time...

Here is the link to the Center's Facebook Fan Page so you can see what else they have there: Orange County Regional History Center

Note from Michael:  I want to add the following that Allen sent me after the passing of another comics great:

"The comic book industry just lost an icon and legend, I speak of Dick Giodano, a great artist and above all all gentleman. He wa supposed to appear with me at a one day comic book event in Orlando on April 10th, he will be missed. Dick and I have appeared in many comic book conventions and usually our tables were side ...by side. I wonder if they publish comic books in Heaven."

For those that missed my memorial blog to Dick Giordano, you can read by clicking this link.

Again, my thanks to Allen Bellman for informing me of this upcoming event!  Plus thanks to Paul who is associated with the Center, for guiding me over the phone as to where the event was posted online so I could tell my blog readers!

AND...My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now almost at the 3,100 total posts in number!!

TODAY'S FEATURE:

This is a review on 'SHELTER' - A Trees & Hills Anthology...

Matt Levin, about whom I blogged about HERE, sent me this publication for possible mention / review in my Blog.

So, what's this publication about? I grabbed this excerpt from the Trees and Hills Comics Group Web Site:!

5.5" x 8.5", 56 pgs. Following on from SEEDS, we present another anthology of comics about a basic need: SHELTER. From personal meanings of home, to foreclosures, to cooperatively-owned trailer parks, and beyond, this is a collection for any home. 25% of all proceeds from SHELTER go to local shelter organizations.

So again, the above shows that this is also a different type of publication.

So, was this also a FUN READ like 'SEEDS' was? (Click here for my review blog on SEEDS.)

Well, this publication reminded more of the 'Underground Comix' that I've read in the past.  Which always has its' fans and those that don't quite 'get' it.  Again, this is an anthology publication, so this is a mixture of story telling and artwork.

Some of the features in this issue that really jumped out at me were:

A Boy And His Robot by Jesse Durona

Houses & Stuff by Tom Pappalardo

Three Stories by Matt Young

I Set You Free by Marek Bennett

Home by Daniel Barlow and Colin Tedford

Gimmie Shelter by Matt Levin

Nebulous Prime by Bob Oxman & Cayetano Garza

As with 'SEEDS', this is definitely a 'message' publication.  Wether or not you 'get the message' or even care for the 'message', this publication has entertainment value in it as well as educational info.  I for one enjoyed seeing what these creators did with their features that were presented in this publication.

For more info on this publication and others that Trees & Hills sells, please see their web site at:

http://www.treesandhills.org/

My thanks to Matt Levin for bringing this publication to my attention. Plus, my thanks to Daniel William Barlow for additional information on the group and his photo to run with this blog post!

Talking about comics: if YOU are a comics creator, (writer, penciler, inker, colorist, letterer, etc.), OR even a Comics / Magazine Publisher, feel free to contact me regarding YOUR works for a possible mention / review!

I've made a special blog post about: "How To Best Submit YOUR Publication For Possible Review!" for those creators / publishers that would like to possibly have their publications mentioned or reviewed. Just click on the link provided in this paragraph!
