The Not-So-Happening

The Not-So-Happening!

M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, The Happening, is getting blasted by the critics. No surprise there.  I don't think they ever forgave him for the 'don't spoil the ending' Sixth Sense.

Myself - I'm too scared to see it - I got chills just watching the trailer before Iron Man.

The word of mouth I've heard has been pretty good.  Perhaps the disconnect is that the movie is not as downright scary or gory as some people, and certainly, some critics expected.  From what I've heard, it's more tense and builds to a scary scene or two.

So if you're looking to get the crap scared out of you - forget The Happening and check out these classic Horror comics. When Michael and I are on buying outings, I'm in charge of quality control.  So, I have to study the covers looking for any defects.  Let me tell you, I always get a little freaked out staring at these covers.  I just know I'm going to have nightmares!

If you're looking for a nightmare, we've got the makings right here!  (Click Here For HoRRoR Comics!)

Remember, we'll ship as many of these (raw, unslabbed) comic books to you (U.S. addresses only) for only $4.99.

Jon Voight Joins Cast of 24!
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: TV Shows

Jon Voight

Joins "Jack Bauer" /On The Cast Of The “24TV Show!

We're stoked to learn that Jon Voight will play Jack Bauer's nemesis in Day 7 of 24.  The Oscar-winning Actor (Coming Home, 1978) hasn't appeared in a television series since Gunsmoke in the 1960's.

We're eager to see what the writers will be doing with such a big name star.  His character is said to be the mastermind behind the lastest terrorist attack that consumes Jack on Day 7. If you remember Voight's role in the first Mission Impossible movie, you know he can be a surprising villian.

Voight's character will be introduced in a two-hour Season 7 prequel being filmed now in South Africa and scheduled to air November 23.  We're marking our calendars now! Season 7 begins January 2009.

If you can't wait until then, make up your own 24 storyline with the 24 Trading Card Game.  Check it out by clicking the photo of the game at the top right!

We have an ongoing Comic Con and Pop Culture Convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

It Opens Today! 06-20-08

It Opens Today!

Just a friendly reminder! Especially if you've already seen 'Iron Man', Indiana Jones and...Skull', and the 'Incredible Hulk', you'll need a quieter movie!

Tina's post follows:

After the debacle of Evan Almighty, Steve Carell looks like he's hitting in his sweet spot as Maxwell Smart in Get Smart.

If you're a fan of The Office, you know that no comedic actor is more dead-on at deadpan delivery than Steve Carell.  He routinely has audiences delightedly yelling "Oh no!" at their tv screens.  Yes, the writing is what makes The Office great, but without Carrell's relentless delivery, the show would not work.  There hasn't been such a "cringe-worthy" character on the small screen since Seinfeld's George Costanza.

Let's just hope that the Get Smart writers give Carell what he needs - we know he can deliver.  If the trailers are any indication, Get Smart which opens nationwide on June 20 is going to be a fun trip back to yesteryear.

If you're a Steve Carell fan and haven't seen Dan in Real Life, I encourage you to check it out.  He really stretches his acting, and not just comedic, chops in this bittersweet romantic comedy with Juliette Binoche.  The story is hysterically funny, adult, and touching. (Yes, Michael cried.)

I have to admit that I haven't watched Saturday Morning Cartoons for quite a while.

I have caught several episodes of recent or upcoming cartoons on 'Cartoon Network' with my youngest son, and do view some at the Comic Cons that we attend when Tina and I need to sit and rest.

Having seen cartoons off and on since the mid 1950's I am aware of most of the above list, but some just threw me trying to figure where they fit in...

BTW, Angelica 'Charlotte' Pickles is an animated character voiced by Cheryl Chase in the Nickelodeon Shows of 'Rugrats' and 'All Grown Up'... She was one of the original cast members and of course related to 'Dill Pickles' and 'Tommy Pickles'. Sh's also a 'spoiled brat'. Sheesh!

We have an ongoing Cartoon Show, Comic Con and Pop Culture convention here ourselves at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

We just can't leave this blog post without honoring the #1 Cartoon Character per TV Guide...  that 'hare-brained' rabbitt himself... Bugs Bunny! Shown above with one of his 'hare-brained' ideas.... surely he's not related to Wiley E Coyote?!!

It's The 75th Anniversary Year Of The....

It's The 75th Anniversary Year Of The....

American Comic Book!

Another one of several milestones in pop culture history being reached this Year will be honored at the upcoming SDCC  Comic Con  International 2008!

The Comic Con  runs in San Diego, California from July 24th through July 27th, (with a special preview night on the 23rd for 4-day badge holders only).

This is the Year that several programs nationwide as well as the SDCC are celebrating the birth of American Comic Books.

Why?  Because most comic book historians consider 1933 as being the year when American comic book came into being.

Who Started this pop culture item?  It was started by an enterprising 'premiums' salesman Max C. Gaines.

What was the First Comic Book? Well, the first 'true' comic book was Funnies On Parade, that was published in the spring of 1933 by Eastern Color, which contained only reprints of newspaper strips.

The comic book was offered as a 'premium' by Procter & Gamble with an initial print run of 10,000 copies.

That run sold out immediately! Quickly recognizing a good thing, Eastern Color next released Famous Funnies: A Carnival of Comics, but went to press with a print run of 100,000 copies...

This time Gaines stuck a 10 cents sticker on some of the copies and dropped them off at various  corner newsstands, only to return later to find they had already sold out!

Then a year later, Famous Funnies no.1 debuted (pictured at above right), and an American Industry was born!

It was only five years later when Superman appeared in Action Comics, which really kicked off the Comic Books buying habits of Americans!

Max Gaines himself went on to be active with National Periodical Publications ( Later known as DC - Superman Comics) and also with his own EC Comics line.

I am pleased that the Comic Con is honoring the birth of the American Comic Book, which has given me so much pleasure in my reading and buying habits!

As I will be celebrating my birthday also at the Comic Con, I'll be sure to blog on any of the programs that I attend in those 4 days and 4 nights!

For those of you that are new to our blog, we have an ongoing comics and Pop Culture convention ourselves here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale! Be sure to join us again!

Action Comics #1 from June of 1938 is pictured above. Funny thing is, Superman wasn't on the cover again until issue #7 in December of 1938. He was in each of the interior pages of issues #1-7 but only pictured on the cover of #1 and 7 when the publishers figured out what was making the comic book sell!
