The Horsemen: Divine Intervention Graphic Novel

Jiba Molei Anderson...  Sent me a review copy of his upcoming graphic novel, 'The Horsemen: Divine Intervention'.

Although the creation was originally a critically-successful 3-issue mini-series that was published in 2002, this 96 page (compilation) graphic novel will actually be published and distributed in the first quarter of 2010 by Arcana Comics

Even though Arcana Comics is publishing it, 'The Horsemen' is the flagship property from intellectual properties company Griot Enterprises.  'The Horsemen' and Griot Enterprises both have been in existence since 1999 and this is their tenth year in the comic book industry.  There was an earlier 2006 version of this work, but it is very hard to find and costly on the resale market!  There are currently no copies on eBay, and only one on Amazon.

Jiba told me before reading the graphic novel, that "The Horsemen is the story of seven ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, as the gods of ancient Africa possess them. The gods have chosen them, to protect humanity from itself…whether humanity wants them to or not. They have been chosen to combat those who control the fate of the planet. Through their actions, the world would never be the same".

What I found in reading the review copy was the following:

There are four chapters in this graphic novel, which appear to be following the breakdown of the original comic book mini-series(?).

The graphic novel was created, written, pencilled, and colored by Jiba Molei Anderson, along with Patrick Brower on inks, and Eric Pence on colors.

The graphic novel's genre appears to be a mix of Hip Hop / Urban Black Sci-Fi' / Adventure / Superhero comic format.

What helped me was that at the very beginning there a 'Pronunciation Key For The Characters'.  Very Smart and Useful for the reader!  None of this 'Is it Sub-MARINER or is it Sub-Mareen-er' going through a reader's mind here!

Then the brief background history and bio on the gods of ancient Africa for this story... "and thus the war begins anew"...

Not to give away the story... but I am going to give my impressions here of this upcoming graphic novel.  I liked the art design, the way the pages are laid out, and the panels on the pages.  The colors used for this graphic novel are very vivid!   The story in this first chapter was a little hard to follow at first.  There is a hostage situation at Reniassance Center in Detroit...

The second chapter had the storyline move to Nigeria, where it was made clear that the 'superheroes' do exist with powers from the ancient gods of Africa. The storyline here was easier to follow.

Third and fourth chapters brought the storyline into fruition.  It was the design of the art on the panels with the vividly colored artwork that kept my interest throughout this graphic novel.

Since this graphic novel is not scheduled to come out until the First Quarter of 2010, you have time to make yourself acquainted with the deities and background of the ancient gods before reading the full story.

Click Here to see our listed Comics, Magazines, and other Pop Culture Items for sale!

Eric Millikin... Just notified his Facebook Friends that he was getting ready to take his flight to this First Ever WebComics Weekend Con being held in Easthampton, Massachusetts.

The Official Title of this con is "New England WebComics Weekend" in case you were wondering...

But before you all get too excited about this weekend convention, you should know that according to the con's web site, that the con is considered to be 'sold out' for attending!

Sorry about that!  I usually am aware of conventions and able to give our blog readers a 'heads up' before a con starts. However I just found out about this start-up convention thanks to Eric!

However, if you were one of the lucky ones that have already Formally Pre-registered to this first time convention, then prepare to have fun!

According to the schedule of events, there is plenty to keep you busy during the convention!

For those that can't make it to see Eric Millikin at this convention, feel free to check out his webcomic and other artwork at:

http://www.ericmonster.com

Below are the details for this 2009 comic con should you be Formally Pre-Registered and thus be able to see Eric Millikin there:

Eastworks Building in New England's Pioneer Valley
116 Pleasant Street in East Hampton, Massachusetts
(The web site has multiple driving maps to find this easier!)

Hours are posted on the web site, but I had to mention this!

The activities start Friday night with a 'Northampton Pub Crawl' at 8:00 PM to 200 AM!

Saturday the Con resumes: 11 AM - 8 PM

Sunday the Con runs: 12 PM to 5 PM

Cost And Availibilty of Entry:  BIG NOTE - You HAD to FORMALLY Pre-register to attend this convention.  Because it 'sold out' prior to this weekend, a waiting list was started.  Don't fly or drive to it without verifying that you have your formal entry application approved!  Please see the Con's web site for additional details at:

http://www.webcomicsweekend.com

BTW, there are more guests than just Eric at this Con!  LOL

They include:

Rene Engstrom, Chris Hallbeck, Jon Rosenberg, Jeff Zugale, Serena Castells, Luke Foster, Dawn Griffin, Juli Mayers, David Wilborn, and Joe Zuniga among dozens of others!  Sorry, but there's two pages of guests and other cartoonist atendees listed... too many to list here!

Herb Trimpe

Will Be The 'Guest Of Honor' At Tampa Comic Book & Toy Convention 2009!

Herb Trimpe... Is the 'Guest Of Honor' at the upcoming Tampa Comic Book & Toy Convention!

I have had the pleasure of meeting him at a different con before, and he is an unassuming man for someone who first drew Wolverine in Incredible Hulk #180 PLUS a lot more artwork during his career in the comics industry starting in 1966-67!

The 'Plus' includes G.I. Joe, Fantastic Four Unlimited, the 'one shot' Phantom Eagle in Marvel Super-Heroes, Kid Colt Outlaw, Iron Man, Captain America, Ant-Man in Marvel Feature, the Defenders, the Transformers, The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones, and of course The Incredible Hulk run that he drew!

Herb Trimpe rarely received the accolades or the attention from the 'fanboys' during his years drawing.   He came in when the earliest Marvel artists were still there forming the Marvel Universe, (1966-67).  Others that came in before and later received the big 'fanboy' recognition for the most part.  It is great to see Herb receive the well deserved 'Guest of Honor' Title at this Comic Con!

For those that can't make it to see Herb at this ComicCon, check out his artwork at:

Below are the details for this 2009 comic con should you be able to see Herb there:

It's Not About Winning 'Idol'...

It's Not About Winning 'Idol'...

It's About Winning

Small Press Idol!

Erik W Hendrix...  Brought to my attention that 'Small Press Idol', (SPI), is continuing right now!

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Magazines, Games and more!  Erik wrote me:  "Thanks! I'm not sure if you've already checked it out, but one entertaining thing is Small Press Idol 2009 which round 1 is just finishing up over at dimestoreproductions.com.  I'm participating with my book, Faction... I'm the writer for that one."

I had meant to update my earlier January 13th 2009 blog post where I first mentioned this SPI, but hadn't yet. So thanks to Erik for reminding me to!  Plus after seeing his work on 'Faction', that is part of the entries for the SPI, I wanted to mention his work being shown there also!

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Magazines, Games and more! Ian Spires , (pictured to the left), updates the group mailing list for Ian Shires' SPA, (Self Publishers Association), on Facebook where I (and you if you are a FB member), could get automatic updates on what's happening during each round of judging.

However it is actually Dimestore Productions, the parent enterprise, that is hosting Small Press Idol 2009, which is now in its' 6th year!

So what exactly is Small Press Idol?  I'll let their web site promo say it for them:

"Small Press Idol is the greatest amateur's contest in comics, mixing a bit of American Idol with a bit of The Apprentice, and a bunch of our own special social experiment elements. This contest is not for everyone...but it will be fun, and, for those that participate, it will challenge you to be the best you can be. If you survive round 1, your work WILL BE PUBLISHED! This year: We have national store distribution! It's our biggest year ever!"

For additional info, please see the rules of SPI for 2009, which have changed since the previous year at:

http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/content287.html#Guidelines

Additionally, Ian recently sent out the following update:

"Just wanted to point out a couple quick misconceptions I've seen. The contest is OPEN TO NEW PROJECTS till the deadline for the round. There IS still time to get in this contest this year.

Also: You do not have to be IN the USA to be in the contest, it's International, this is an internet event, not tied to a physical location.

For those interested in just watching the show, I added all the cover images turned in so far, and linked them forward to the judges comments so you can see how they did. I'll keep adding them as they continue to come in!

If you have any questions, ask! Thanks for your interest, and for many of you, for your help spreading the word. Keep it up! Idol is exploding this year!"

-Ian

Please Note: For all of you American Idol Fans and our long time blog readers that have been reading our blog posts on American Idol for the past two seasons, we have made a change here ourselves this season... Sorry, but I have decided NOT to blog on American Idol tryouts, performances or result shows this Season.

Last Season we had many bloggers come in and read, and / or comment on Tina's and my scoring of the contestants, and it was a lot of fun!  However it is just too much of my 'fun time' to write notes and score the performances AND then blog about them the next day!

Our viewing and blogging habits have definitely changed since the WGA Strike affected our viewing season last year... there are several other bloggers that are specializing in American Idol posts only, so we'll leave that to them this season!

For those that don't know about our blogging on American Idol the previous two seasons, we have over 200 previous archived blog posts that you can read! Click here for An Index to our blog posts on 'American Idol' and 'The Next Great American Band'!

(Please Note: Michael / Tina / Make It So Marketing Inc are not affialiated with, nor compensated by the publisher, the SPA, or the SPI. This blog post is for mention of the SPI only.)

For those of you that are new to our blog today, we have an ongoing 'Comic Con and Pop Culture Convention'  here at "Make It So Marketing Inc.", what with our daily blog posts,  and new listings of items for sale in our online eBay Featured Store
