Majesticon Comics Con - Colorado - Sunday, October 26, 2008
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Comic Cons

MAJESTICON

Comic Con

Sunday, October 26, 2008!

Sometimes we receive an invite or a promo for an upcoming comic con or pop culture show that is of short notice to us, and thus we can't give our blog readers much advance notice either.

The Majesticon is one that is happening this upcoming weekend, October 26th in the Northglenn/Denver Colorado area.

This Comic Con is one day only at the Ramada Plaza Convention Center.

Please Note: neither Tina or I have been to this comic con before so we can't give our thoughts on previous shows at this venue.

However an added plus is that another collectibles show is happening at the same time in the same center.

That would be Dana Cain's Collectors' Supershow. Admission to that show is free when you purchase an admission to the Majesticon.

The Guest List to the Majesticon includes:

Comic book artists Daniel Crosier, Kevin Genrilcore, Alex Meyer, and Zach Meyer.

There is no mention on whether or not there are any panels or programs at this one day con....

However, there are dealer tables there with comics for sale. Add in going to the collectors' show in the same center, and there should be several items of interest to see.

If you live near the Northglenn / Denver area, and have wanted to attend a comic convention, this one day affair could be the one to get you into the 'comics world' if you aren't already...

For those of you that are new to our blog today, we also have an ongoing 'Comics Show and Pop Culture Convention' ourselves here at "Make It So Marketing Inc.", what with our daily blog posts and new listings of items for sale in our online store!

Thanks for reading this blog post today, and please join us again for more!

~ Michael

So What Are We Watching This New TV Season?
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: TV Shows

So What Are We Watching This New TV Season?

We have received yet another email asking where our single episode reviews on this new 2008 TV Season are this month!

Well, it's this way folks! Tina and I are still watching our favorites from last season, and added some new ones this TV Season.

However, due to the WGA Strike last year and how it affected our viewing / blogging habits, our interest in reviewing single episodes just hasn't been rekindled!

Additionally this New Season's Premiere episodes have been strung out since the beginning of September,  with other shows not starting until January 2009!

Plus we have found other bloggers that are just blogging about one show, and are referring our blog readers to them for that type of info. Such as JOpinionated's blog on the 'Lost' TV Show. (Click here to see more On Jo!)

However we have blogged about a few  TV Shows and what our initial thoughts are on those so far, (see the above right next column boxes for those reviews).

So what are we currently watching?

SUNDAY - Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters

MONDAY - Chuck, Heroes, Boston Legal

TUESDAY - House, Fringe

WEDNESDAY - Pushing Daisies, Knight Rider (Michael watching only)

THURSDAY - Survivor Gabon, Ugly Betty, Life on Mars

FRIDAY - Nothing (Just viewed premiere of Crusoe, not for sure if we will follow that)

SATURDAY - Nothing (Unless we missed an episode that is being re-run this night)

The above are basically just the prime time TV Shows that we currently watch. When they return, we will also be watching 'Lost', '24', 'American Idol', and 'EUReKA' for sure!

In the list above we didn't include the SD Charger football games or the Philadelphia Eagles football games that we also watch. Also, Tina is waiting for the Phillies to appear in the World Series baseball series. (Tina is from the Philly area.)

Also not included above is the extensive Election 2008 coverage that Michael is really into, including all the Debates. We watch basically the cable news networks for that type of info.

So, due to the reasons explained above, we aren't currently blogging individual episodes like we did before for: Heroes, Lost, Survivor, American Idol, Chuck, etc., at this time!  Additionally a few of our favorites will not be returning: Journeyman, Jericho, and New Amsterdam.

For those of you that are new to our blog today and can't make it to a Comic or Pop Culture Con, we have an ongoing 'Comic Con and Pop Culture Show' ourselves here at "Make It So Marketing Inc.", what with our daily blog posts and new listings of items for sale in our online store!

Thanks for reading this blog post today, and please join us again for more!

Go APE*

( *Alternative Press Expo 2008 That Is ! )

The Alternative Press Expo, better known as 'APE', has moved to the Fall Season this year.

However it is being held once again in its home of many years, the San Francisco Concourse.

The APE event is on November 1st and 2nd, right after Halloween Night. So the event promoters are urging attendees to come to San Francisco early, and celebrate that spookiest of holidays in the beautiful city by the Bay before hitting the APE Exhibit Hall!

So what is APE??

APE is... "one of the country’s largest gatherings of the best in indie comics, offering a venue for exhibitors ranging from self-publishers of minicomics to such large publishers as SLG Publishing, Fantagraphics, Drawn and Quarterly, Oni Press, Top Shelf, and many more".

As an attendee, you will find a huge assortment of some of the best 'indie' and 'alternative' comics material out there: via graphic novels, ’zines, art books, prints, original art, and comics of every size and shape!

Even if you don't stop and buy a bagful or two of goodies, you may be inspired to go home and create some of your own comics!

So Who's going to be there?

The special guest list for APE 2008 includes Jessica Abel (La Perdida), Paige Braddock (Jane’s World), Megan Kelso (The Squirrel Mother), Matt Madden (99 Ways to Tell a Story), Ethan Nicolle (Chumble Spuzz, courtesy of SLG Publishing), and Chris Ware (The ACME Novelty Library).

This event is brought to you by the same folks that are bringing you the:

Above is a photo showing the actual swimming pool on the ranch with Leo and his wife 'Deedie' relaxing by it!  They entertained many Hollywood Stars of their time by the pool.

The ranch was so large, and at the time so far away from Hollywood in the back country of Carlsbad, that the film stars would come down with their 'Airstreams' and camp in an area near the Cabana for several days at a time!

Neal Hefti Passes.... Writer of The Batman Theme & More...
Mood:  sad
Topic: TV Shows

Neal Hefti Passes....

Earlier this morning Tina and I were watching the cable news.

The passing of Neal Hefti was mentioned, and of course the 'Batman Theme' from the 1960's TV Show was played in the background.

Neal was hired to write that theme. He really struggled to finish the tune.

"Hardest piece I ever wrote," he later commented. "I agonized over it for six weeks." "I couldn't get inspired (to do the song)," he says.

"I'd watched two hours of film footage and thought, 'This is the campiest thing I've ever seen.' But then I felt what I was writing was not as good as the show. I never had a moment of 'Eureka!'".

Neal doesn't get as much credit today because Nelson Riddle and others actually scored the individual television episodes. So Neal's name kind of flashes by in the credits of the show...

Neal was born October 29th, 1922 in Hastings, Nebraska.

He started playing in bands back in 1940. He was in and out of Charlie Barnet's, Muggsy Spanier's, Earl Hines', Bobby Byrne's, and Charlie Spivak's bands learning and playing his craft.

In 1953 he quit touring with his own band and started studio work. He worked with Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and then in the 1960's started writing for film and television work.

Besides being well known for the 'Batman Theme', his theme for 'The Odd Couple' Film was used for the TV series!

Neal's music will live on... our condolences for his family and friends.

Thanks for reading this blog post today, honoring Neal Hefti, and please join us again.

~ Michael

Neal Hefti had many hits during his career but the above album is the one that is most popular with collectors!

Neal Hefti will always be remembered for the above theme song... I was a teen-ager at the time, and it really set the 'tone' for each show's beginning!
