   Highland  International Comic Expo 2

Inverness, Scotland,  UK!

Now this is a Comic Con that has a great location!

I may be a little prejudiced, but I would love to attend this Comic Con!

Why? Well my mother's lineage is from Scotland, (Clan Chattan), so the Scottish Highlands are calling me even now, LOL!

We have been blogging about more Comic Cons and Pop Culture Conventions outside of North America because so many of our Blog readers are from outside the USA, and we want to include areas that could be combined for Cons and tourism at the same time...

This Comic Expo is scheduled as a 'Valentines Special' as it happens the 14th and 15th February of 2009!

The Con's Guest List includes:

Michael Carroll
Michael Carroll is the author of fifteen published books, including the New Heroes series for younger readers. He has also written for 2000 AD, FutureQuake, SFX, Judge Dredd Megazine and Solar Wind.

Gary Erskine
Gary has been illustrating for nineteen years and contributed character designs and storyboards for television, commercials and games development for every major comics company, as well as licensed properties such as Star Wars, Terminator, The Mask, Shrek, Madagascar and Transformers. He is currently working with Garth Ennis on the new Dan Dare.

Alan Grant
Alan Grant is best known for his comic work on Batman and Judge Dredd. He was the only UK writer on the hit BBC TV kids' show Ace Lightning and is currently writing the script for an animated movie.

Leah Moore
With her writing partner John Reppion, Leah Moore is fast becoming known as one of the most interesting and imaginative of the new generation of comics writers. Their co-creations include the mini-series Albion, Witchblade: Shades of Grey and Raise the Dead, as well as many anthology contributions and one-off tales.

Frank Quitely
Widely considered to be one of the top comic-book artists in the business, Frank has drawn All Star Superman, We3, New X-Men and JLA: Earth 2, (all written by his frequent collaborator Grant Morrison), Missionary Man and Shimura (both for Judge Dredd Megazine), The Authority, Sandman and Batman: The Scottish Connection, among many others.

The first Hi Ex Comic Expo had programs and workshops throughout both days. I do not see the planned programs for the 2009 Expo at this time.  However there will be dealers there with comics for sale.

Baseball on My Mind...

I've got baseball on my mind. 

My hometown team, the Philadelphia Phillies, are in the World Series - YEAH!

I'm actually typing this watching the first game so Michael can post it soon... so far so good but the Rays are catching up.

Michael and I spent last Saturday watching my niece Jackie, (pictured below), play in a college showcase softball tournament in Anaheim Hills, California.

She's such a dynamo on the base path her coach kept putting her in to run for her teammates. (These showcase tournaments sure have different rules!)

Watching her poised to steal second, I said, "She looks like Spidey getting ready to shoot his webs!"

That started a discussion of what baseball teams different comic book super heroes would root for. 

Since Peter Parker grew up in Forest Hills, Spider-Man must be a Mets fan. 

Ben Grimm/The Thing comes from Yancey Street in Brooklyn, so he's probably still moaning over the Dodgers move to LA. 

Mr. Fantastic annoys me such much he'd have to be a Yankees fan - the team I always root against no matter who they're playing!

Wolverine being from Canada is probably a Toronto Blue Jays fan.

Sub-Mariner HAS to be - DUH - a Mariners fan.

Trunk Or Treat ! 

 

It's that time of year again!

But this time Tina and I are 'Trunk or Treating' the Sunday before Halloween Night.

What's 'Trunk or Treat' you ask? Well, it's where cars, trucks and other vehichles line up on a parking lot or makeshift lot with their trunks open. Then the kids walk by each trunk and the owner(s) pass out candy! 

This is a new idea that our church is sponsoring this year. We'll have to take photos and blog about it, as Tina's red sports car will be decorated ala Spider-Man webs and goodies!

PLAINVILLE 

Comic, Toy And Collectible Show

Sometimes we receive an invite or a promo for an upcoming comic con or pop culture show that is of short notice to us, and thus we can't give our blog readers much advance notice either.

The Plainville Comic, Toy and Collectible Show is one that is happening this upcoming weekend, October 26th in the Plainville Connecticut area.

This Comic and Toy Show is one day only at the Plainville V.F.W. Hall.

(Please Note: Neither Tina or I have been to this comic show before so we can't give our thoughts on previous shows at this venue.)

The Guest List to the Show includes:

Comic book writer / editor Steve Kanaras, of 'Only In Whispers'.

Everett Soares debuting 'Sky Pirates' issue #4.

There is no mention on whether or not there are any panels or programs at this one day con....

If you live near the Plainville, CT area, and have wanted to attend a comic convention, this one day affair could be the one to get you into the 'comics world' if you aren't already...

MAJESTICON 

Comic Con 

Sunday, October 26, 2008!

Sometimes we receive an invite or a promo for an upcoming comic con or pop culture show that is of short notice to us, and thus we can't give our blog readers much advance notice either.

The Majesticon is one that is happening this upcoming weekend, October 26th in the Northglenn/Denver Colorado area.

This Comic Con is one day only at the Ramada Plaza Convention Center.

Please Note: neither Tina or I have been to this comic con before so we can't give our thoughts on previous shows at this venue.

However an added plus is that another collectibles show is happening at the same time in the same center.

That would be Dana Cain's Collectors' Supershow. Admission to that show is free when you purchase an admission to the Majesticon. 

The Guest List to the Majesticon includes:

Comic book artists Daniel Crosier, Kevin Genrilcore, Alex Meyer, and Zach Meyer.

There is no mention on whether or not there are any panels or programs at this one day con....

However, there are dealer tables there with comics for sale. Add in going to the collectors' show in the same center, and there should be several items of interest to see.  

If you live near the Northglenn / Denver area, and have wanted to attend a comic convention, this one day affair could be the one to get you into the 'comics world' if you aren't already...
