Comic Con: The Day the Earth Stood Still!

As Reported From The Floor Of The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

"Klaatu barada nikto."

A bearded Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) introduced the beautiful Jennifer Connelly (The Rocketeer), Director Scott Derrickson, and Producer Erwin Staff to a capacity Comic Con Hall H Crowd for The Day The Earth Stood Still panel.

Director Derrickson told an interesting story of how as a film student he was treated to a dinner meeting with his idol Robert Wise, director of the original 1951 movie.  Wise advised Derrickson to make his first film in the genre he loved: horror.  He took his idol's advice and made the critically acclaimed The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Erwin Scott explained how he was first inspired to remake The Day The Earth Stood Still while making another movie years earlier with Reeves - Speed.  Erwin was waiting in a studio exec's office to pitch him a new movie idea.  On the wall behind the desk was a poster for the original movie.   When the exec finally arrived for the meeting, Erwin said forget what I was going to talk to you about, let's talk about a remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still.  The exec was interested, but as luck would have it in Hollywood, was out of a job two weeks later and Erwin's idea was put on hold.

The film's been "re-magined" to address today's issues.  The Cold War, crucial to the original, is over, and the environment and man's relationship to the earth and each other takes precedent in the remake explained Derrickson.  As a result, the look and feel of the movie as evidenced by Klaatu's spacesuit, the spaceship, and the aliens, is more "biological" than "industrial" look of the original.

Internet rumors notwithstanding, fans will be happy to know that Gort is in the remake.  So surely, someone will be saying, "Klaatu barada nikto!"

We even have an official The Day The Earth Stood Still T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase.  Check it out by clicking here!

Tina!

Elvira Was At The SDCC 2008 Comic Con International CCI !
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Comic Cons

Elvira, Queen of Halloween,

Was At The 2008 Comic Con International!

As Reported From The Floor Of The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

The 2008 San Diego Comic Con International has so much going on that it is much like Disneyland... You can't see it All in one day or even all four days!

Between time on the exhibit hall floors, the programs, the film screenings, the anime showings, time spent in line to get in, etc., there just isn't time to stand in line for autographs anymore for us!

So unfortunately, I was just able to snap photos of Elvira near the end of Saturday as she was three quarters of the way through a four hour autograph session. And there still was a large line of fans waiting to see her!

Click here to see our ELVIRA listings for sale!

Seriously! Because Elvira, (Cassandra Petersen), is sooo popular with her fans that I just had the time between attending programs to shoot a few pics from the side.

Note for all of you that intend on coming to next year's Comic Con.... I heard this from several attendees, in that there was so much to attend this year, that many persons had problems with conflicting scheduled programs they wanted to see!

Plus with all the promotions also scheduled on the floor of the exhibit hall, you'd have to clone yourself to do everything you'd want to be at!

Anyway, it was great to 'see' Elvira again, even from a short distance. She is another 'class act' at the Comic Con. If you are a fan, be sure to check the 'Events Guide' for her autograph session and hi-lite it in your schedule so as not to miss her!

BTW, We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again for more photos and stories from the Comic Con!

If you know of something that isn't listed... email us, we may have more that has been listed yet! Sorry, Michael is keeping his 'Elvira' autographed photo from years ago... it takes a lot of time to stand in line for a new one, LOL!

Wendy Pini & ElfQuest At 2008 Comic Con International

Wendy Pini & ElfQuest Panel...

At The 2008 Comic Con International!

One program that caught my eye as a 'possible' program to attend at the recent Comic Con was the Wendy Pini / Elfquest Program that was held on Sunday July 27th. The following was the program note:

1:30-2:30 30 Years of Pointed Ears: Elfquest Join Comic-Con special guest Wendy Pini (Elfquest, Masque of the Red Death), Richard Pini (CEO Warp Graphics) and Rawson Thurber (director/writer/producer) for a visual presentation celebrating Wendy's pioneering career as writer/artist, plus—of course!—the upcoming Elfquest movie! Q&A for sure! Room 2

Unfortunately this program coincided with another one that Tina wanted to attend, and I also was unable to attend this program. So sorry, no program notes, just the one pic at the top right from the panel.

There was just so much to see at this year's con!

However we did pick up a few copies of the ElfQuest 1st prints by WaRP Graphics at the Con and have just finished listing those for sale last night in our eBay Store for those that need to fill any gaps in the early ElfQuest saga. Just click on the photo below to see those listed issues:

Yes, that would be a color photo of Wendy Pini as 'Red Sonja' at the 1970 New York Comic Con!  Picture courtesy of the Alan Light collection!  Wendy had interest in this genre of fiction for years before starting ElfQuest in 1978!

She Wasn't Savage...!
Mood:  a-ok

She Wasn't "Savage"...

She Was "Sensational"!

As Reported From The Floor Of The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

We met her at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International in full costume...

And she wasn't the 'Savage She-Hulk' from the comic book title of the 1970's, but instead was the 'Sensational She-Hulk' from the 1990's!

Just like the Marvel Comics' She-Hulk as seen below from her #1 issue from the 1990's!

Click here to see our SHE-HULK listings for sale!

Well... actually I'm blogging about BelleChere, a 25 year old professional costumer from New Hampshire who walked the floors of the Comic Con on Saturday as the 'Sensational' She-Hulk!

I told her we had a blog, and that we were definitely going to publish her pic soon. She gave me her business card... She has a Portfolio Web Site online, and also a MySpace Page.

Her MySpace page is: http://www.myspace.com/delpharia

Our thanks to BelleChere for posing for our camera and with Michael, as She-Hulk and Wonder Woman are his two favorite female superheroes!

BelleChere, a professional costumer, as She-Hulk at the 2008 SDCC Comic Con International!  She is dedicated to her craft: it took her approximately 5 hours to apply the body paint! She is also wearing a wig, and you should read her blog about the problems she had that day being 'She-Hulk'. You'd never know, as she was very professional and polite for these photos!   Please note: these photos were taken at 5:45 PM and she was still looking sensational after being at the Con for all those hours!

BTW, in case you see other photos elsewhere that make you think you've seen her as 'someone else', for the 2008 SDCC Comic Con she was: 'Anna Mercury' on Thursday, 'Spider-Woman' on Friday, 'She-Hulk' on Saturday, and the 'Black Cat' on Sunday!  You should definitely check out her Portfolio, MySpace Page: http://www.myspace.com/delpharia, and her blog posts!  What a Class Act she is!

Heroes Season 3 Sneak Peek Continued!
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Comic Cons

SPOILER ALERT!

Heroes Season 3 Sneak Peek Continued!

From The SDCC Comic Con International 2008!

SPOILER ALERT!

Don't Read If You Don't Want To Know!

(Note: From Michael - We watched the Olympics on NBC last night. NBC kept plugging their upcoming season of their Heroes TV Show with several scenes that we previewed earlier at the Con, so I thought I'd repost this blog post from Tina from earlier in the week as some of the scenes have now been shown on TV, giving some of the 1st episode away already before it airs....)

As I told you yesterday, Michael and I along with 6500 loyal 'Heroes' fans were treated to a surprise showing of the entire Season 3 premiere episode at Comic Con.

Yes, we found out who shot Nathan.  And, yes, sadly Nathan does die.  But, heh this is Heroes, - give it a minute.

For those of you who love Hiro (as Michael and I do), there's plenty of Hiro to come.  And, his relationship with Ando takes an interesting turn.  (No, not that kind of a turn!)

Sylar is back and as sneaky, scary and sexy (if the squeals in Hall H were any indication) as ever.  He opens the season stalking Claire.  It's creepy, violent and shocking -- We get to find out just what the heck he does when he opens those skulls!  If you're squeamish - don't look! But, then again, if you're squeamish you're probably not watching this show!

For you guys with cheerleader fantasies, don't despair, Claire just can't die.  And, til you see future-Claire.  She's bad ass!

Mohinder gives us another boring "but don't you see" scientific explanation for what's happening to the Heroes.  Then he does something rather out of character for him, but great for the show.  Be sure to tape the episode so you can freeze frame the symbol in the last scene.  You'll want to study it.

Cristine Rose joins the main cast as Angela Petrelli (Nathan and Peter's mom).  Yes, I know she's been on the show, but this season, she's been elevated to main cast so expect a whole lot more of the history of the Heroes and their abilities.  Think: sins of the father.

If you're looking for a lot of Ali Larter, you won't find it in this episode
 - and she's fully clothed!  Sorry, guys!  But, she's still around and up to her scheming ways as you shall see.

The lovely Matt Parkman is back and as usual gets screwed ending up in the middle of nowhere.  That guy never seems to catch a break.

H.R.G. is still chained to his desk so to speak, but he gets some interesting new company.

Wondering what Peter is up to?  Besides shooting his brother?  (I promised I'd tell you who shot Nathan, didn't I?)

Stay focused - there's a lot of Peter - between future Peter and present Peter, and then they change clothes, watch carefully so you're not confused like poor hapless Parkman!

We loved it.  We think you will too.  There's plenty of action, lots of cool reveals and new plot twists to confuse you!

See for yourself on September 22!

Tina!

Jeph then started having the cast come in... The cast came in as groups and sat down after waving to the crowd and several of them, (including 'Parkman'), were taking the audience's pictures. Everyone was there!

The above photo shows just a few of the cast standing as they were waiting for others to come in. There were so many of the cast at the Heroes Comic Con panel you had to a take more than one photo to get them all in the shot!

If you haven't guessed it by now... 'Hiro' is Michael's 'favorite' Hero of the the TV Show.  Here is 'Hiro' acting up as usual at the panel... He has always done so at each year's Comic Con!

Click here to see our TV & Movie items for sale... Plus we have More to List!

There were Q & A after the premiere episode was shown. Tina and I have nothing but praise for this Heroes Comic Con panel!  If the rest of the season is as good as the premiere episode then we are in for a heck of a ride this season!
