We Didn't Get To See The X-Files Film While At...

The 2008 Comic Con...

But We Did Get To See Dean Haglund!

The X-Files Film opened during Comic Con Week in San Diego, California.

Thus we didn't make the time to go see it, as we were at the Comic Con by 5:45 a.m. at the latest each day just to obtain an underground parking space!

And trust me.... once you get underground parking, you don't want to leave until it's closing time for the Con!

So we were walking through the Sails Pavilion of the San Diego Convention Center, enroute to another Con Program, when I noticed it was one of the three 'Lone Gunman' trio from the X-Files TV Series we were walking by!

So, since I was keeping my camera around my neck for easier access, I quickly snapped a few shots, of which I am sharing a couple at this time!

I had been to a 'Lone Gunman' special program at the LA Sci-Fi and Comics Con years ago, but Dean was the only one that hadn't shown up there for that program!

So now I've seen all three of the trio in person!

Also, for those of you that are wondering... Yes there is a charge for almost all autographs and photos taken with the stars at these booths. The stars do come down to the Con and several run the convention circuit so that you can obtain an autograph, chat briefly with them etc. etc...

Check out the signed memorablilia on eBay in case you think their charging for autographs is unreasonable!

BTW, We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again for more photos and stories from the Comic Con!

Bloggers Looking For Xena At The Comic Con...

Bloggers Looking For Pics Of Xena At The 2008 Comic Con...

Can See Her In The Photo At The Right!

I've been noticing that our Xena archived blog posts are seeing more activity over the weekend into today, so I am publishing a photo of 'Xena' that I took on Saturday at the Comic Con.

For those that don't know who Xena is, well... here is a brief bio of her:

Xena of Amphipolis was a fictional character in the now ended television series Xena: Warrior Princess and also in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.  She was played by the New Zealand actress Lucy Lawless, pictured to the middle right under the Comic Con Xena!

Xena first appeared on the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys television series, (in the episode The Warrior Princess airing in March 1995), as a seductive but treacherous warlord.

Two more episodes during the May 1995 TV sweeps presented her evolution from a villainess to a friend and ally of Hercules. Viewer interest in her was so high that shortly afterwards she became the main character of her own spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess,  and the two series quite often played back to back.

Ironically though, her character was originally obsessed with defeating Hercules and thus obtaining his title as the greatest living warrior, she never did defeat "Zeus' Favorite Son". As a matter of fact, Hercules was the one credited with pointing her down the path of redemption when he beat her in combat and showed her that selfishness and greed were not the way to live.

In her own TV series, Xena set out to redeem her murderous past by fighting against tyranny and evil and protecting the innocent and weak.

I personally caught the show after it had started and began watching the rerun episodes to catch up. A lot of her past would remain obscure, but flashbacks would open up new chapters in her past as she revisited the people or areas again.

For those interested in Xena comic books from Topps in 1997-1998 or Dark Horse 1999, we have several listed in our eBay Featured Store. Xena was published as mini-series by Topps, while Dark Horse published one unlimited series. In 2006 Dynamite Entertainment started publishing Xena Comics.

BTW, We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

So Are There Any COMIC BOOKS At Comic Con???

As Reported From The Floor Of The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

So, with all of our recent blog posts on the New and Returning TV Shows and on the Upcoming Theatrical Films, it begs to ask...

Are there Any COMIC BOOKS At Comic Con???

Actually, there are some, but not in the quantity or the depth that the Comic Con once had IMHO!

But then again, don't take my word for it, check out other blog posts about the same topic, and you'll see that several comic book dealers are unhappy with the situation as well as comic book collectors.

Sure, there are still quality dealers there selling, and the one comic you came to look for is probably there if it is a 'Key Issue' and pricey, but Comic Books are pretty much segregated to a tiny 'comic ghetto' at the Comic Con now.

The comics section seemed even smaller to me this year, with the amount of comic books displayed for sale and under the tables at the booths.

I traveled through the same aisles as the previous years, and saw the regulars dealers there, plus a few other booths nearby that had some comic books for sale among their toys or artwork or whatever else their main sales niche was.

Yet, we ended up with even less purchases this year than the last few years.... tho I do have to admit I no longer have any 'holes' in my collection...

So, with minimal comic book booths to check out, Tina and I actually spent a little more time on the rest of the large exhibit hall floor this year at the Film and TV booths checking out film trailers, booth giveaways, etc.

Of course we couldn't help but stop at the Marvel and DC booths, where Tina succumbed to my wish to have my photo taken with Wonder Woman as shown to the right!

In fairness, I believe that the programming this year was the Best ever for me, as I had multiple programs conflicting with each other, there were so many that I had interest in!

Plus Tina spent a lot of her mornings into the afternoons at Hall H for 'Hollywood', because as usual it appeared as those TV & Film Programs hold the most interest for her!

I keep seeing in print and video that the Comic Con has outgrown the San Diego Convention Center.... however it isn't the Comic Book area that has done this, but instead the oversized booths that the TV & Film Industries have taken over to get the most hype for their projects!

Well, the Comic Con is supposedly tied into the SD Convention Center till the year 2012, so we'll see what happens by or after then!

BTW, We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Clap for The Wolfman!

Clap for The Wolfman!

As Reported From The Floor Of The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

He's back!  This time terrorizing Victorian England.

Six time Oscar-winning special effects artist Rick Baker transforms Benicio Del Toro into "The Wolfman" for Universal.

A somewhat dishelved Del Toro (who looks like a natural Wolfman sans makeup!) told the Comic Con crowd that he's a serious fan of both Lon Chaney Jr and Senior.  So he's excited to work on the the project and give it a twist - setting it in 1800's England.  (The original Wolfman is set in an indeterminate time - but, as Del Toro told the audienc
e, "they have cars!"  So he figures the original action is in the '20's.)

Sounding disappointed, Baker, who was responsible for the amazing thransformation in The American Werefolf in London, revealed that the man-werewolf transformation in the remake is currently all CGI.  He's hoping the director may decide to go back in and fashion some physical scenes.  Sounds like a good idea to me! Altho,
ugh, I will tell you the werewolf we saw in the footage is quite frightening and monsterous.

Emily Blount was so frightened by Benicio as Wolfman that she spent most of the film running -- away from him.  With a snarl, Benicio spent most of the movie -- chasing her!

It looks like a good old-fashioned gothic horror film updated with today's technology.  If your tastes run to horror, ghosts, goblins, and werewolves, check out our Horror/Monster comics now (by clicking here), - the movie won't be out until April 2009!

Tina!

Samuel L. Jackson on Nick Fury!
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Comic Cons

Samuel L Jackson

On Nick Fury!

As Reported From The Floor Of The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

The Spirit panel at Comic Con  heated up when Samuel L Jackson took the stage!

Wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with a variation on one of his trademark phrases (the one that's probably behind all the panel tent cards saying this year: Please remember there are children under 18 in the audience!), Jackson talked about his collection of action figures.

Action figures, that is, of characters he's portrayed.  The first was his character in Jurassic Park.  He keeps them in his office and likes to position them in different fighting positions.

A fan asked about his Nick Fury  action figure.  Jackson explained that "Nick Fury doesn't have an action figure yet."

He went on to explain to the delight of the crowd, "You know, when I was growing up, Nick Fury  was a white man. It's nice that he's evolved into something I can relate to."

Based on the crowd reaction, I'd have to say, look for a Nick Fury -Samuel L Jackson action figure coming soon!
