Watchmen - The Movie - From A Woman's POV

As Reported From The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

If, like most of America, you saw The Dark Knight, you've probably seen the trailer for Watchmen and, like many in America, wondered what in the heck is this? Whether you're an avid Watchmen fan or a novice you have to admit the trailer was visually stunning and very intriguing.

So I was camped out for Comic Con Hall H on Friday morning to check out the Watchmen panel. 

First observation: this is a very different crowd from the "Twilight" group the day before. It reminded me of the way Comic Con used to be -- a lot of socially-challenged guys excited to see something the general public knows nothing about. Oh, and a lot of them smelled bad. Wow, it took me back.

As I waited in line I started to panic about who I would try to sit next to - after waiting in line for four hours, you really need someone who'll watch your seat while you hit the bathroom.  I sure didn't want to have to fight anyone too big or too smelly to get my seat back. 

Fortunately, as practically the lone female, the other attendees were too afraid to sit next to me, so I had a couple seats open next to me.  Eventually a skinny, nerdy kid asked if he could sit there and felt indebted to me when I said OK.  Problem solved.  Off to the ladies I go - and yeah - no line, in fact there were only about two girls in there with me.  It made me nostalgic for the way things used to be at Comic Con.

Well enough about me - here's what I learned from the panel:

Co-creator Dave Gibbons was thrilled to visit the movie set and "to stand inside the owl ship, and smell the Comedian's cigar." Look for Gibbons's signature woven into the graffiti which is featured in the movie - it's a G inside a square.  He signed the wall and the set designer incorporated into the design.  Cool. 

Just hearing Gibbons talk about his labor of love coming to the big screen was way cool.  He was like a little kid.

Director Zack Snyder (300) explained why he decided to take on the project.  While he was wary of living up to expectations, he figured that if passed on it and someone else messed it up, he'd still be responsible, so he might as well do it.  How's that for motivated? Actually he seemed very jazzed about it, and concerned about keeping the original material.

Asked about co-creator, writer Alan Moore's refusal to have anything to do with the film, Gibbons said he "wished Alan could have gotten over it and hadn't such a bad experience" previously.

I'm intrigued.  I survived Hall H one more time.  Now I need to land me a copy of Watchmen - forget about finding one in the vendor hall.  After days of trying I finally landed my Watchmen T-shirt.  Check it out as it is for sale... Click Here!

The Next Catwoman.....

 Cher ???

I have noticed that our archived blog posts on Catwoman have been viewed more in the last few days, so I figured something was up!

Of course all of this is just internet rumours at this time so be aware of that before reading further....

Appears that besides Angelina Jolie being rumoured for the Catwoman role in the next Batman film, (supposedly titled The Caped Crusader), Cher has now been added to the list of rumoured possibilities!

Okay.... well if director Christopher Nolan, who supposedly isn't signed for Batman 3, is truly looking for a an older vamp style of Catwoman, then she could fit that role.

Christopher is rumored to supposedly want to cast his Catwoman as a seductress in her 'twilight years', which I don't believe that Angelina would be  believable in.

However, Angelina as a younger Catwoman would be alright with me if the role is written that way...

Sometimes the vision of the director doesn't alway ring true to the comic book series.

But then again Selina Kyle has been around in one form or the other since the 1940's, so who's to say which vision or version of the Catwoman is best.

IMHO the Catwoman played by Halle Berry was right on in looks and character. It was just the poor story and lack of being in Batman's world that made the movie not well received by fans or critics.

Personally Michelle Pfeiffer was okay in my book, but not as 'hot' as others have made her out to be. 

Julie Newmar was great IMHO in the role during her time on the TV Series.

However Eartha Kitt just didn't ring true for me...

This also goes for Lee Meriwether who played Catwoman in the first theatrical Batman Film. Just didn't ring true for me after seeing Julie Newmar...

So, I'm looking forward to the "Batman 3" film, whomever is chosen as Catwoman, Angelina, an unknown, or even a 62 year old Cher! 

The supposed addition of the Riddler as a villain is a strange choice, coming off the blockbuster reviews and gross dollars taken in that 'The Dark Knight' brought in using the Joker and Two-Face...

Didn't see or hear much about Batman at the last San Diego Comic Con International, other than the usual Batman costumed attendees and booth characters that were there...

It's Raining Men At Comic Con....

Naked Ones!

As Reported From The 2008 SDCC Comic Con  International!

What was with all the naked guys at Comic Con this year?  Okay, they were half-naked, but still...

Several years ago there was this freaky tall skinny guy in some kind of moth costume, perhaps you saw him?  You couldn't miss him, he was about six foot six, wearing a G-string, some wings and makeup.  Nobody could tell me what character he was supposed to be, and I was too afraid to ask him.  YOu could see him coming from yards away, what with his being so tall, and the wings and all.  Plus people gave him a rather wide berth - might have had something to do with the G-string.

But this year was different.
 
Michael and I were wandering through the crowd in the vendor hall when we spied these two dressed up like 300 wannabes.  As you can see there's something creepy weird about these guys. Kind of reminds you of that scene in Pulp Fiction, don't it?

We saw Hulks with their clothes shredded, topless Wolverines, then it happened...

In an instant my Sub-Mariner fantasy was wiped out. 

I can't believe we don't have a picture of this guy! 

But I kept grabbing Michael's arm and trying to get away from the guy.  So Michael couldn't get a shot.  But picture a middle-aged, pot-bellied, greasy-haired, flabby guy in a Speedo carrying a trident.  Not a pretty picture and certainly NOT my Sub-Mariner!
