Michael D Hamersky On Comics Announces A New Revised Timeline Look For His...

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3565:

This is just a quick 'weekend edition' of my blog to show those of you that are not my Facebook Friends about the 'new look' that my Facebook personal profile page is sporting as of this morning!

I had already been an 'early adopter' of the upcoming 'Timelines' look that Facebook is going to before the end of the 2011 year.

However, I decided to emphasize two things on my own personal page a little differently than what I started out with on Thursday.

First is the larger photo, called the 'cover photo'.  I decided to use the 1973 photo of myself at the 1973 San Diego Comic Con, that was held at the Sheraton Hotel on Harbor Island in San Diego.

The inset 'profile pic' or 'avatar' is now a photo taken of me at the December 2011 Nuke the Fridge Con, where I had my first book signing held for 'Gotham City 14 Miles', (GC14M).

So almost a 40 years span at the top of my Facebook personal page!

Which shows my two passions:  Being an online (& occasional on site at a con) comic book dealer, plus my love for comics / tv history, which in this case was combined for my chapter in the GC14M book!

Usually I'm not an 'early adopter', but in this case I found that the two column online newspaper look that 'Timelines' is sporting was something I wanted to jump right into!

Now I realize that my own Facebook 'fan' page will probably need to be 'upgraded' also... But I haven't seen any announcements on any upcoming changes there to that format.

But you can never tell... As Facebook changed the 'group pages' format earlier in 2011, and now the 'profile pages' have been changed!  Just a matter of time before the 'fan / brand pages' are revised too!

Anyways, I'm limited to the number of Facebook Friends I can have, with the number of fan pages that I also 'Like'.  So I wanted to share this 'new look'with all of you that can't add to my 'friends list'.

Take a look at your own Facebook profile and start playing with it, as you have seven days to complete your revision before Facebook publishes it to the world!

Yeah, I know the holidays season is upon us... But hey, this is a cool holiday gift for us to play with !

Talking about pages...

Here's the link to my Facebook profile page, the fan page, and the group page - which is affiliated to the Facebook Comic Con Group.

(In addition, as a sidenote:  This is the link to my Hamersky / Hamerski / Hammersky Family Newsletter Facebook Fan Page, which usually has nothing to do with comics or pop culture, but could be of interest.)

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3481:

We're Nominated for 'Comic Blogger of the Year'!

Yesterday I learned that I am up for a Shel Dorf Award as 'Comic Blogger of the Year'.  What an honor!

This is especially cool because, if it weren't for Shel Dorf and his hard work in co-founding the San Diego Comic-Con, I don't know that I'd even be blogging on comics today.

You see, I worked my way through college buying and selling comics starting at the 1972 San Diego Comic-Con at the El Cortez Hotel. Those were the days -- I had hair - long hair!  Yeah, that's me in the picture from 1973 shown above at the top 2nd right of this blog post!

For the next 40 some years, I collected comics (especially everything related to the Fantastic Four), bought and sold comics, went to Comic-Con International as often as I could,  (21 straight since 1991 when it moved to the San Diego Convention Center!), and even bought the seldom seen poster for the original (never released) Fantastic Four movie by Roger Corman. It hangs proudly on my home office wall.

Today, I blog about comics, the industry, and pop-culture. I especially enjoy giving voice to small press and independent artists and paying tribute to comic book legends that we recently lost like Gene Colan, John Buscema, Jack Kirby, and John P. "Jon" D'Agostino Sr, among others.

If you enjoy my blog, please cast your vote here at the Shel Dorf Awards - Vote Now! link. The category is titled 'Comic Blogger of the Year', and the entry name is 'Michael Hamersky On Comics'.  It's the fourth category from the bottom of the page.

You will be asked to verify your vote via email.  You can only vote once, so I appreciate your support.  While you are there... Please check the other categories for other worthy nominees.

The Shel Dorf Awards will be handed out at the 2nd Annual Detroit Fanfare on September 24th.  I'll be sure to announce the winners here in this blog!

For those of you coming here to my Blog for the first time, because of the announcment... Here are links to the most recent blog posts in categories that I've set up:

Comic Book Artists, Comic Book Writers, Comic Book History, Comic Book Movies, Other Movie GenresComic Books - New (Reviews), Comic Cons, Other Cons, eBay info, Other Non-Comics Works, and TV Shows!  I've also blogged a series of 'Spotlight On...' posts that 'spotlight' those that contribute to the comics / pop culture worlds but don't necessarily work as creators.  Those posts can be found in a special photo album at my Facebook fan page, with a link to those persons being 'spotlighted' in a blog of their own.

Thanks again for taking the time to read the above, and taking the time to vote for me in the 'Comic Blogger of the Year' category at The Shel Dorf Awards - Vote Now! link.

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3310:

Tina and I may be on vacation... And I may be using her laptop, that doesn't have all of my photos scanned from the last several decades... But that isn't going to stop me from wishing Stan Lee a 'Happy Birthday', and re-publishing a few here that I have up online already!

That's right... Stan's 88th Birthday is Today, December 28th!

Stan was born 'Stanley Martin Lieber' on this date back in 1922!  He was born in the apartment of his Romanian-born Jewish immigrant parents, Celia (née Solomon) and Jack Lieber, at the corner of West 98th Street and West End Avenue in Manhattan, New York.

Stan was one of two sons born to Celia and Jack... Larry Lieber, (who I have also blogged about), kept the Lieber name when breaking into comics.

I don't need to re-post the history of Stan in comics here... As I'm sure those reading this blog post are aware of his achievements!  And there is so much of that history covering from the 1940's to current day... But, if you are new to comics... Here's the link to the Wikipedia entry on Stan.

As you can see from the photos re-published here at the header of this blog post... I've been a fan of Stan's for years!

It was because of Journey Into Mystery #72 that I first realized that there were 'real people' creating these comics! (See this archived blog post for details! Plus the two inserted photos at the bottom right of this blog are pics of the cover and a representation illustrated personally for me by Tiina Birgitta Räisänen!)

Thanks again Stan Lee & Jack Kirby for starting me on 'collecting comics', instead of just 'reading comics'!  It's because of YOU two that I've had decades of readingand collecting pleasure in this genre!

My best wishes for a Great 88th Birthday, and here's to many more to a Great Man, who is one of the few I've selected for my Thanksgiving Blog Series... "Whom I'm Thankful For...".

Michael D Hamersky, of 'Michael D Hamersky On Comics' - my New Facebook Fan Page, and Facebook Comic Con | Make It So Marketing - my Facebook Group Page which is under the 'virtual umbrella' of 'Facebook Comic Con'! Plus of course this blog, ComicBookCollectorsBlog.com!

TODAY'S 'MAIN FEATURE':

It's almost the end of the 2009 year, which means we still have Stan Lee's Birthday to celebrate!  Today, December 28th, 2009, is Stan's 87th Birthday! Happy Birthday to You, Stan!

The above photos were taken the last time I saw Stan, which was at the Opening Day of the Ignaural 2009 Long Beach Comic Con.

Stan was the Guest of Honor, who cut the Opening Day Ribbon, but not until after he was also honored by the City of Long Beach by having the Day, October 2nd of 2009, declared 'Stan Lee Day'!

Plus he was also given another 'honor', which was read by Jeph Loeb, who is also pictured above.

It has been my honor to blog about Stan Lee several times during this Blog's "life".  Stan was and still is my 'hero', after all these years!

It was his participation in the 'Silver of Age of Comics' that kept me reading and collecting comics during the 1960's into the 1970's, when so many others my age dropped reading them because comics weren't 'cool'.  That's a different story today, as it is the twenty-somethings and plus that keep this industry busy by buying comics and graphic novels!

I'm not going to go into Stan's history with comics... heck, it would several blog posts to do just that! Instead I'm just going to post the following link from Wikipedia.org that gives a fair representation of Stan Lee's background and accomplishments. (Click here for the Wikipedia entry'.)

Plus to see what Stan Lee is doing nowadays, check out his web site at POW Entertainment!

Plus, You can be a 'Fan' of Stan's at his Facebook Fan Page like I am!

Suffice to say, if it wasn't for STAN LEE, and his multiple co-creators like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, Joe Maneely, etc., I wouldn't have the several websites and this blog to be busy with! For that Stan, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Enjoy Your Special Day, Stan!  Let there be many more!  'Nuff Said!

-----------------------------

BTW, If YOU are a comics or graphic novel creator, whether writer, penciler, inker, colorist, etc., and would like to possibly see Your work reviewed here in my Blog, please check this following link, where I tell you: "How To Best Submit YOUR Publication For Possible Review!"

AND... Thanks again to all of YOU reading our current and archived blog posts!  We do blog usually on a daily basis during the work week on comic book creators, comic book reviews, comic cons, and other pop culture news and events, including some TV shows and theatrical films as they are shown.

PLUS... Be sure to check out our own new listings of comics, graphic novels, Comic Con exclusives and more pop culture items for sale in Our online eBay Featured Store that several of our blogs are based on!  It's due to sales at this online store that keep us going with the ability to post blogs like the one you have read here today!

Be sure to check out our new listings of comics, graphic novels, Comic Con exclusives and more pop culture items for sale in our online eBay Featured Store that our blogs are based on!  It's due to sales at this online store that keep us going with the ability to post blogs like the one you have read here today!

Thanks again to all of YOU reading our current and archived blog posts!  We do blog daily on comic book creators, comic book reviews, and other pop culture news and events including some TV shows and theatrical films!

CONVENTION PHOTOS:  Another character in the DC Comics Universe (DCU) is Harley Quinn.  I'm told by the costumed attendee shown below from the 2009 Long Beach Comic Con (LBCC) that her costume is a variation of Harley Quinn. Since I don't keep up with all of the characters in the DCU, I gotta belive her!  Besides, she looked dangerous with that weapon, and I wanted to believe her!
