 That Was Immortalized In
The Commemorative Issue Of Conan The Barbarian #100!  

I was just listing several more Conan The Barbarian Comic Books from Marvel Comics in our eBay Featured Store.

Issue #58 was Belit's introduction to the Marvel Comics Universe of Conan, and she lasted in the series until issue #100 which is shown at the top right when her death was the special issue's cover feature!

Robert E Howard, (REH), created Red Sonja, Conan The Barbarian, King Kull, Solomon Kane and others during his short life in Texas!

Marvel Comics included Belit in the Conan The Barbarian Comics in the 1970's culminating in the Death of Belit in Conan's issue #100!

Belit was first published in 1934 when REH had his 'Queen of the Black Coast' story printed in the May 1934 issue of Weird Tales!

Basically, Conan found Belit as follows: In the seacoast kingdom of Argos, after a brush with the Hyborian legal system, Conan hops aboard a southward bound ship. Off the coasts of Kush the ship is boarded by black corsairs under the Shemitish she-devil, Bêlit. Conan joins her crew, becomes her consort, and for a long time they harry the Hyborian and Stygian ports. During this stage of his career, Conan gains the name of Amra, the Lion, which is to follow him throughout his later life!

Originally They Were

 Classics Comics...

Then Classics Illustrated!

However by the Spring of 1971 these novels in illustrated format ceased to be published!

I was asked this because of yesterday's blog post where I blogged about the issues we picked up at the Comic Con, read, and then listed for sale.

When clicking on the photo of the issue shown to go along with the blog post, a new window popped up, showing more recent issues of Classics Illustrated.

If the Classics Illustrated had stopped being printed... then what were these I was asked via email?!

Well there have been a few attempts to revive this format.

First Publishing printed 27 issues, starting in February of 1990 and ending in June of 1991. I read a few of these, but found the artwork too modern for my tastes.

Acclaim printed 62 issues, starting in February of 1997 and ending in February of 1998, somewhat flooding the market...

Jack Lake Productions printed 4 issues in Canada during 2005.

Marvel Comics printed a 'Marvel Classics Comics' series from 1976 to 1978 consisting of 36 issues, which were similar to Classics Illustrated... These were some of my favorites and have been popular with our buyers in the past.

There have been other international editions published during and since Gilberton was publishing Classics Illustrated.

Episodes #45 -48!

Earlier I blogged about BarBara Luna being featured in one of my favorite episodes of Star Trek, 'Mirror Mirror'.

Also, that Tina had pointed out that BarBara was the same actress that was 'Elena' on the episode titled the same on a Mission Impossible episode.

So I 'Googled' her, and found that she was also in several other TV shows during the years as well as film. Those included Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, The Texans, The Untouchables, Tales of Wells Fargo, Death Valley Days, The Outer Limits, Ripcord, The Wild Wild West, The Invaders, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and more!

Additionally she was in at least four espisodes of Zorro that ran from 11/13/58 to 12/04/58.

Quite honestly I watched the Zorro episodes for the Annette Funicello appearances, so I just didn't place BarBara in this series. BTW, she now prefers her name to be spelled as 'BarBara' Luna, which is why I'm changing it here in this blog post.

So we'll have to put this on our 'to watch list' for later...
