One of the pleasures of going to conventions is to look through the boxes of back issues for stories that have been reprinted, just for reading purposes, not for collecting!

After those issues are read, I place them in the eBay Featured store for others to enjoy!

Currently I am going through boxes of comics & mags about MoNSTer & HoRRoR Movies that I picked up to read over the years, and are now listing them for the first time!

We have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again!

So Who's HOT In Our Archived Blog Posts Right Now? 07-09-08

So Who's

'Hot'

 In Our Archived Blog Posts

Right Now?

You Would Think It Would Be Will Smith In The Hancock Film From This July 4th Weekend...

Or Even The Dark Knight Film That Is Coming Out Soon...

But No... Once Again It Is...

Bettie Page!

Regular Readers of our Blog know that I check our Blog Stats at least daily to see which of our archived blog posts bloggers are viewing!

As of right now, the most viewed archived blog post we have, (out of over 1750 total), is the 'Notorious Bettie Page archived Blog post of ours!

That blog post has been  viewed by 6% of our most recent viewership.

It's been an archived blog post that is usually in our 'Top 20' of archived blogs post being viewed at any one time, unless there is a new movie out that everyone wants to read about!

So it would appear that this is a 'slow Wednesday', and bloggers are just checking out 'girls' instead of new movies or TV shows blogs for a change! LOL!

Tina and I are pleased to say that this blog is currently averaging over 730 visitors a day right now, and that this Blog, (both versions), has had several new RSS subscribers so far this week!

Welcome aboard to all those new readers! We're glad you found us and want to read more in the days ahead from us by subscribing to our RSS feed! Also thanks to our returning visitors!!!

For those that are new to us... we have an ongoing Pop Culture Convention - Comic Con here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale! Come back anytime! You are welcome to comment below when the comments option is open!

So Which One Are YOU???

While Checking To See If The Upcoming

 2008 SDCC  Comic Con International

Program Schedule Was Published Yet Or Not....

... I ran across a 'test' to see which superhero I am most like...

I hadn't taken it before, so thought what the heck, and quickly answered the questions.

Surprisingly, (or not?), it turns out I am more like 'Spider-Man' than any of the other possibilities.

Not for sure how many other possibilities there were, but I have always figured myself similar to 'The Thing' of the Fantastic Four...

If you have the time, check out the url shown above to see 'Which One Are YOU??' and let us know below if the comments option is still open!

We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

1970's Comics Dealers...
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book History

1970's Comics Dealers...

Earlier this morning while having my first cup of coffee I ran across a discussion thread about 'Whatever happened to these 1970's Dealers?'

This discussion thread piqued my interest because of several of the names I recognized.

As a matter of fact, my first comics "sales" were to a San Diego Comic Book Dealer, Richard Alf!

Also, I bought several of the comic book bags from Robert Bell... and to this day find collections that are still bagged in those old Robert Bell Bags!  Talk about great advertising! Those bags, although now yellow with age, still carry his name on each and every bag!

I also bought a few comics from Howard ('M' in Marvel Comics ads, 'D' in DC comics ads) Rogofsky of Flushing NY. Funny thing was that he, as other dealers, were not all that concerned with grades back in those days...

There was a wide variance in what you would get in the mail when your purchases came in!

Grading was still being formulated, and this was pre-internet days and no pictures were included in their catalogs. However, since the West Coast was not the center of the Comics Universe, (New York City was), I was pleased just to get them to add to my collection!

However I do remember buying some for my collection from a few dealers and then realizing that my purchases at the San Diego Comic Con in person would be better for me as a collector, as I could see and hold the comic I was considering buying right then and there. I was fortunate enough to have the SDCC in my 'backyard' so would wait each year to do my major purchases!

During the decades since the 1970's Price Guides and Grading Guides have been more concerned in grades. Back in the 1970's I was happy just to have a copy of the comic to place into my collection!

The discussion thread that got me started on this rememberance was very timely, as I will be attending the 2008 Comic Con International in a couple of weeks.

This will be the 35th Year since I first officially set up at the Con to sell and pay for my way through college. I actually starting selling there in 1972 on the last day of the Con, but it was just as a spur of the moment thing as I bought out a dealer that wanted to leave early on the last day...

Nowadays I just go with Tina to check out the many comics and pop culture programs and to pick up stock for resale.

BTW, Richard Alf, who had bought many of my duplicates issues, went on to sell out to Chuck Rozanski, Owner of Mile High Comics in Colorado, in 1978. Richard had built his mail order business into a going concern, but by then there were some major competitors in mail order including Pacific Comics (also in San Diego), Passaic Book Center and of course Robert Bell.

As you can tell by the tone of this blog post, I had a lot of fun in those days!  It continued as years later I was still running around in the early 1990's carrying xerox copies of the covers of the comic books I wanted to upgrade in my personal collection at cons. Because by then 'grade' was the big thing in collecting! For those new to our blog... we have an ongoing Pop Culture Convention - Comic Con here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale! You are welcome to come back anytime!

Above photo is of myself, Michael D Hamersky, selling at the 1973 SDCC, (San Diego Comic Con which was the first time that name was used), which was held at the Sheraton Hotel, Harbor Island, San Diego.

I had started selling at the 1972 San Diego's West Coast Comic-Con which was held at the El Cortez Hotel, which was officially the third convention.  I had attended but not sold at the first true SDCC, which was then called the Golden State Comic-Con. That was held August 1st-3rd 1970 at the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

I am not attempting to put myself in the league with the big time comics dealers, but only blogging this post as to remember the 'good old days'...

CONVENTION TIP:  Always make sure that the creators You want to sign Your comics know how to spell your name, even if it is a 'common' name.  You wouldn't believe how many people mis-spell 'Michael' !  Either hold your Con Badge out with the correct spelling as a guide for whoever is signing, or have a card with a legibly written name you want the item signed to.  Below is Michael after having Dick Ayers sign his Fantastic Four Comics at the 2002 San Diego Comic Con International held at the Convention Center in San Diego, California.

So Who's HOT In Our Archived Blog Posts Right Now? 07-07-08

So Who's

'Hot'

 In Our Archived Blog Posts

Right Now?

You Would Think It Would Be Will Smith In The Hancock Film From This July 4th Weekend...

But No... Once Again It Is None Other Than...

Red Sonja!

Regular Readers of our Blog know that I check our Blog Stats at least daily to see what topics bloggers are viewing!

Earlier this morning of July 7th, the most viewed archived blog post we have, (out of over 1750 total), was the blog post about Brigitte Nielsen who played the role of Red Sonja in the 1985 Film of the same name!

That blog post was then being seen by 24% of our viewership, which is very high in percentage. Only our Iron Man Film Review Blog Posts and our Betty Page Post attain that percentage at times!

Right now it is still our 'Hottest' archived blog post with 9% of our current viewership!

The reason this blog post is so popular right now is that in the past two years there have been several actresses proposed as a possibility to update Brigitte Nielsen's prior 1985 performance in this role. Now we will have Rose McGowan pictured to the right.

Additionally there have been several scripts presented, to no avail.

Finally it appears that both a script and an actress have been found that should meet the requirements of finally going into pre-production mode!

Tina and I are pleased to say that this blog is currently averaging over 712 visitors a day right now, and that this Blog, (both versions), has had several new RSS subscribers so far this week!

Welcome aboard to all those new readers! We're glad you found us and want to read more in the days ahead from us by subscribing to our RSS feed!

For those new to us... we have an ongoing Pop Culture Convention - Comic Con here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale! Come back anytime!
