Kooky 'Kook' The Pig wanted to know if any 'Stars' ever come to the SDCC Comic Con International?  All we had to do was pull out this pic from last year's 2007 Comic Con showing that both Marina Sirtis (Troi) and Levar Burton from Star Trek The Next Generation have been there before, and Kooky was ready to go! Never knew Kooky was a 'Trekker'!!

We Will Be Missing The Premiere Of The X-Files Movie...

We Will Be Missing The Premiere Of The X-Files Movie...

As We Will Be At the San Diego Comic Con This Week!

So I'll just repost Tina's blog from last month (June 9th) regarding her thoughts on this film we want to see after Comic Con Week:

Our old friends Mulder and Scully come
to a theater near you on July 25, 2008 and I for one, can't wait.  If you haven't seen the trailer yet, check it out online at the official  X-Files  site.  (Sorry I can't give you the link - it's off eBay.) Click on the teaser trailer - it'll get your heart racing.

Just hearing the opening theme music takes me back to sitting home on a Friday night eagering anticipating having the crap scared out of me.  In fact, after the "Worm Man" and that guy who crawled through electrical sockets, I couldn't watch the show unless I had other adult supervision.

Twentieth Century Fox will only say that the story takes place in present time six years after the end of the television show, and it doesn't involve aliens. The movie will be a stand-alone super-natural thriller similar to the creepy scary episodes we loved from the tv series.

If the movie fulfills the promise of the trailer, we're in for an exciting and satisfying time. Setting the action in the frozen north is genius.  Immediately, the characters are isolated in an eerie setting - it instantly ratches up the tension.

And speaking of tension, Mulder says, "I need you on this with me, Scully."  You need her - no kidding!

And, we need Mulder and Scully back!

Meanwhile, if you can't wait for  X-Files The Movie and you need to have the crap scared out of you, check out these classic Horror comics:  'Dark Mansion', 'Ghost Stories', 'Dracula', and 'Frankenstein', oh my!

We have an ongoing Comic Con and Pop Culture  convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and please come back to visit us again!

This 25th Anniversary Celebration of Return Of The Jedi...

This 25th Anniversary 'Celebration' of Star Wars:  Return Of The Jedi...

Is Not On The Official SDCC Comic Con Programming Schedule!

So this 'Annoucement' In our Blog is brought to you as a 'Public Service Announcement'... a 'PSA' in other words!

Sure....!!

Tina would say it would be just another opportunity to show 'Slave Girl Leias' photos in our Blog, LOL!

But seriously, I just saw this on another web site, and could see that it was a late posting.

The 'celebration' will be at the Gentle Giant Booth at the San Diego Comic Con July 25th 2008 at 11:00 AM PST.

It is supposed to be a Slave Leia Group Photo with Jabba The Hut. I had to reduce the photo for it to show properly in this blog post, but the 'small print' includes: Costume must be a bikini. Females in the costume only. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Appears that the promoters of this 'event' are covering all the bases with the 'small print'.

Not that I'll be there on Friday, as I already have 3 possible programs I want to attend, but I couldn't pass up blogging about this 'event'!

BTW, we also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again as we blog about the 2008 Comic Con before it starts and after we get back!

When You Are With 125,000 Others Attending A Comic Con

You'll Never Know Who You Meet While In Line....

Talking About The SDCC Comic Con International!

As we don't set up at the Comic Con  International with a dealer booth, we are among the 125,000 other attendees that wait in line to get in each morning for that day's programs and exhibit hall hours.

One of the fun things is to greet others that we only see once a year from outside of the San Diego area, because they are once again coming to the Comic Con!

Then again, by the luck of the draw, we meet new people each year also while we have an early breakfast in line waiting for the doors to open.

(We get there early so as to park in the underground structure that has verrrry limited parking spaces!)

Last year's Comic Con we met several people trying to break Big in the industry, including one 39 year old AlexBright.

Alex is a writer and film maker as well as being a producer, co-creator and co-writer of the Imperialis Tellus Comic Book.

He told us of his work with Daniel R Kirk Jr (Dan) and shared the Project Bible with us while waiting...

As of the latest entries that I can find when googling Alex, I see that he is trying to take the comic book format and translate it to a TV Show or Film similar to Battlestar Galactica.

If we run across Alex this year, we'll be sure to blog further on this subject...

The above story is blogged today to let you know that you never know who you will meet while in line.... and that if you are friendly and greet someone you may have get to have 'line buddies' that you can find again during hard to get into programs!

And with 125,000 other attendees around during the week, that is a very important thought to keep in mind when standing in line at this or any other Comic Con!

BTW, we also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again as we blog about the 2008 Comic Con after we get back!

Kooky 'Kook' Packing For The Con!

Kooky 'Kook' The Pig Packing For The Con!

She Had To Help Pack  As She'll Be Attending The SDCC  Comic Con International This Year With Us And She Eats Like A Pig!

Click here to see the Comics and Magazines that KOOKY The Pig and I have listed together!

So many of the program halls at the Comic Con don't have any concession stands, and if you do go to the exhibit hall to buy your lunch or early dinner, you have to fight the exhibit hall crowds each time!

Thus, Tina and I pack snacks for the Comic Con among other things. Which reminds me that I should state what we take to the Con, updated from our blog post form 2006.

We always pack the following:

The Overstreet Price Guide (the latest edition of the BIG BIG Book which is spiral bound with LARGE print, which is easier to read on the convention floor).

The latest Comics & Games Retailer from Krause Publishing to see what retailers say are selling at their stores.

The latest Wizard to see what's 'HOT' in modern comics.

Pocket single use flash camera, (for those impromptu snap shots) up close. PLUS the xtra memory stick for the digital camera.

The receipt(s) for our prepaid 4-day passes, and the last mailer which includes the bar code scan for printing out our passes at the badge pick up area on Preview Night.

Diet tea and water, 3 per day, of which the plastic is good enough for refills from the bottled water dispensers throughout the program halls.

Starbucks cold coffee, ie. Frappucino.... for that time sitting on the sidewalk in the early a.m. waiting for the door to open to go stand in line again, this time to enter the convention hall !

Also for those early attendees.... don't forget to stop off at McD's or J-in the Box, etc to bring breakfast to eat while sitting in line.... don't want to waste valuable convention floor time eating a late breakfast!

Packaged Snacks, for eating during the programs, and on the escalator, so more time is spent checking out back issues while on the convention floor !!  It's ok to stop for a 'real' lunch, the prices aren't that bad for convention food, and you can have a healthy salad during the day!

Short Comic Book Boxes, kept in the car trunk, to place the latest purchases, with plastic bags to keep purchases separate, along with comic book box dividers to also keep purchases separate.

Would also say 'bring a want list', which we now have on index cards for general titles we are looking for. We are no longer looking for single issues, but when i was upgrading the collection, I would bring a xerox copy of the issues I wanted to possibly upgrade. Memory is not good enough when upgrading, purchased a few xtra NM- during the years trying to upgrade!

Cash !  Parking is limited under the SDCC convention parking area, so always bring singles in case you are shut out from using below convention parking, and have to park on the lots somewhere in Downtown San Diego!  No Kidding !! The main local parking lot company gouges on daily rates on the outside lots ! So use singles for outside parking, bring twenties for the convention floor..... nothing bigger than a '20' or you may spend time waiting for the larger bills to be changed for you...

Credit Card.... yes some of the bigger dealers there do have credit card machines, or access to them to run your credit card, so don't forget to use it when possible.... saving your 'cash' to buy from the little dealers who just might have want you want after you run out of spending cash !!

Contact solution if wearing contacts.... sitting outside in the morning, then moved inside to wait before opening, and then the over air-conditioned program halls affect contacts !!

Toothbrush & toothpaste, and minty gum... (ok that's on the list per Tina's request!)

Sneakers & Dress shoes..... one pair to wear during the day, and one for night more formal occasions.

Deodorant ! (Yeah, that's for you Fanboy!)

Handwipes.... seriously.... as the comic bags at some dealers are overly filthy / dusty/ etc.... when checking back issues...

T-Shirt - Your favorite tee shirt for each day, cartoon or comic character or lately even movie t-shirts, just make sure one for each day, with a spare in the car trunk in case of needing a change of shirts...

Your Business Card, or a personal card made up for this occasion.... you will meet a lot of people while waiting in lines, eating at communal tables, etc.  We have made many contacts during the years and it is surprising how often you run into the same people, even though there will be over 125,000 attendees this convention !!

Back Pack, or bag to store all the above items.... when making purchases, be sure to get them down to the car trunk ASAP, before any are damaged in transit.... especially during the standing room only Saturday schedule !!

Whew!  Will add more as we double check our list.... (Could there be anymore???  LOL )

Actually there were two other items.... a held held calculator, which we usually wish we had when adding up comic book prices, and then multiplying 30% off, 50% off, etc.

And a yellow hi-lighter to mark the programming schedule so we don't miss any programs that conflict with other ones !! Thanks to Tina for this reminder!

BTW, We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again for more!

Michael

KOOKY Kook The Pig Says She Has Enuff Drinks for the Comic Con!

Kooky 'Kook' The Pig says that's probably enuff drinks for her while attending the SDCC Comic Con International with us!   But she wanted to know what Tina and I were bringing to drink!  LOL !

For all of our currently listed graphic novels, comics  and Magazines plus other Pop Culture listings just click on her photo above!

Kooky Kook The Pig making sure that enough snacks are packed by Tina!

Kooky 'Kook' The Pig supervising Tina as to the preparation of the snacks bagging process! Hall H has been one of the large program halls that doesn't serve food... and a person can get hungry staying in there for program after program!

If you leave your seat and leave the hall... you have to go through the standing in line to get back in process again! And guess what??? Most times you don't get back in for the program you wanted to see!!  Too many attendees and not enough seats!  Always good to have a backup program to attend!

Kooky The Pig with her snacks for all 5 days of the 2008 Comic Con!

Kooky 'Kook' The Pig with all of 'Her' Treasures for Comic Con!  Sheesh can that pig eat!  LOL!
