The Dark Knight... Our 'Take' On The Film.... Part 2

The Dark Knight... Our 'Take' On The Film....

Part 2 - Tina

Tina and I just returned from an early evening showing of the new Batman Film,
'The Dark Knight'.

I have already blogged on 'My Take in Part 1 of this 2 part review. Here is Tina's Take:

The Dark Knight Lights up the Silver Screen!

Seldom does a movie live up to its rave reviews.  But The Dark Knight deserves all the praise it's garnering from the critics.

Top of the list is the amazing Heath Ledger as The Joker.  He's menancing, maniacle and amusing, but fortunately his violence is off-camera, a wise directing choice.

If we'd seen him commit his many horrific acts of violence, well, it would be a little hard to laugh at his punchlines, no matter how well scripted they are.

And the weird makeup works -- it helps you forget that he's Ledger and you just see The Joker.

The cast is first-rate.  I predict that this film will be a big hit with the movie audience at large just as it's winning over the mainstream critics.

Why?  Great acting, lots of action and less special effects and CGI than in most "comic book" pics.

The Dark Knight really descends into the darkness of the human soul - not just Batman/Bruce Wayne's, but the white knight, Harvey Dent's, and that of everyday Gotham citizens who are tested by the Joker's challenges.  Some are found wanting.

What makes the movie work for me, and the mainstream audience, is the great story, terrific script, hot action and amazing cast.

From the gasps, comments and exclamations from the audience, I could tell that certain aspects of the film were playing well with the hard core fans of the comic.

So, see it, enjoy it - and one warning - get to the theater early - there's gonna be a line!

-- Tina who scores it a 'Mint' 10.0 !

Well that's it for now from us here at Make It So Marketing on this new Batman Film. We'll probably go more in depth on it as the days wear on, just that we don't want to 'spoil' it for any of our blog readers!

Suffice to say that with Michael giving it a 9.0, and Tina giving it a 10.0 it's gotta be good!

The Dark Knight... Our 'Take' On The Film....

Part 1 - Michael

Tina and I just returned from an early evening showing of the new Batman Film, 'The Dark Knight'.

We were pleased to see two other persons that we knew at the theater, both of whom are younger comic book fans, so as to compare notes with afterwards.

For me, this movie was not as 'dark' / grim & gritty as I feared it would be.

That was a plus for the film for me. Although I still wouldn't take young children to see the film at the theater.

Christian Bale as Batman was better for me in this new film, possilbly because he was on screen less as Batman this time. Actually it seemed that he played Bruce Wayne a little more in this film... That was okay with me as he is not my favorite Batman / Bruce Wayne in the several Batman films that have been out to date.

However, the Joker, played by Heath Ledger in his final role, was darn near perfect in his role as the villain in the  film.  He wasn't over the top, nor was there the gratitous violence that would have marred his role. A lot of the violence occured off screen or was insinuated.

Gary Oldman came through in this film, fleshing out his role as Lieutenant / Commissioner Gordon.

Michael Caine seemed more limited as Alfred in this film. That didn't affect either way, good or bad.

Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox shined in his return role and was a pleasure to watch.

I just couldn't get into Maggy Gyllenhaal's attempt to replace Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes. Neither actress worked for me in either film.

Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent was more than just a minor character in this film. I enjoyed seeing his role expanded for this film.

Other roles were more than ably played by additional actors.

The film itself was well written and was self contained in this 2 1/2 hour long movie. However the film IMHO was a little long... maybe by 15 minutes or so...

Because of the length of the film, I rate this film as a VF/NM in grading terms with a 9.0 out of 10.0 possible numerical score.

As for one of the other two younger fans, he (Eddie) give this a solid 'A', his dad (Gary) gave it a A+, and the younger brother Andrew gave it an A++.

We'll see how the film fared with Tina when she is through writing her take in Part 2 of this review!

Off To See The Dark Knight!
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Comic Book Movies

Closing Down Early, Because We Are Off To See...

The Dark Knight!

Earlier this morning I had breakfast with Tina and we caught Mr. Moviefone's review of Batman's newest movie on CNN's Headline News with Robin Meade.

Mr. Moviefone basically stated that it is definitely a dark film, and that Heath Ledger should be nominated for an Oscar performance.

Well, Tina and I have already bought our tickets online for tonight's show and will be reviewing it later this weekend ourselves!

Surprisingly it is Tina more than myself that is the most excited to view the film! Which is strange considering what she blogged a month ago...!

Here were Tina's thoughts from her June 16th 2008 blog post regarding the film:

Crusading against the crime syndicates terrorizing Gotham, Batman(Christian Bale) encounters a new enemy, a criminal mastermind - The Joker (Heath Ledger in his final role) in The Dark Knight opening July 18.

Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman return while Maggy Gyllenhaal steps in to replace the woeful Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes.

Like most sequels, this second installment looks like it will explore its' hero's dark side.  How far is too far?  What if you're battling an evil like The Joker?  Hmmm.

Sounds interesting, and Christian Bale is fabulous as Bruce Wayne.  But on the whole, the trailers look a little too dark for me.  Of course, that just may be Heath Ledger's makeup.  Like many women, I'm not much for the gore and this new Batman seems filled with it.

NOTE TO BATMAN FANS:  Check out our 100+ inventory of Batman comics - we even have some that feature The Joker. You get FREE shipping for each additional comic you purchase - raw, unslabbed books to USA addresses only please.

I admit, I'm not itching to see The Dark Knight - and I loved Batman Begins.

On the plus side, at least Katie Holmes is gone ...

Reserving judgement for now,

Tina

Approaching 200,000....
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Comic Book History

This Weekend We Will Be...

Approaching 200,000...

 Visitors!

That would be 200,000 visitors to our pop culture / comics books blog, which we started back on June 7th 2006 after we viewed X-Men III - The Last Stand!

The eBay Blogs had just started, and we decided to become an 'early adopter' of eBay's blogs.

Early on, eBay had a contest for a few weeks promoting the new blogs, and we were surprised to win $100.00 for just blogging!

On July 15th 2006, we added a 'stats counter' and started checking how many visitors, what blog posts were the popular, etc etc.,

January 2007 we started blogging using a template. Unfortunately the eBay techs decided several months later to change the format of the eBay blogs and our earliest templated blog posts are totally distorted now....

At that time I decided to buy a domain name just for our blog, and hosted it on another hosting web site that we control, in case the eBay techs decide to change the blog format again.

Earlier I had started submitting our eBay blog posts to Digg and other blog directories, but decided to only submit our own controlled domain name web site after the eBay techs distorted all of our previous blog posts so we wouldn't be embarassed again...

On May 20th 2007 I blogged that our Blog had reached 7,000 visitors... Not 'hits'... Not 'page views', but 'real' visitors!

Today is July 18th, 2008. In 14 months we have gone from 7,000 visitors to almost reaching 200,000 visitors!

It took our blog 11 1/2 months to reach 7,000 visitors.  We have now added 193,000 more visitors in the 14 months since then!

(Additionally the eBay stats show almost 585,000 page views, while our Sitemeter shows less than that, but doesn't count our own personal page views.)

Tina and I want to thank YOU, all of YOU, that have stopped in during the past two years to view our blog posts, and /or to comment also!

We are currently winding down, getting ready to go to the San Diego Comic Con that starts next week with 'Preview Night' on July 23rd. I will be celebrating my birthday on Comic Con's opening day the 24th. I couldn't think of a better place for me to celebrate than right there!

I was just looking at another archived blog post we have, from July 25th 2007 where I mentioned we were shutting down to attend the 2007 Comic Con. At that time we had just hit the 12,000 mark of visitors to our blog.  This past year since then has been one busy year in blogging!!

So what do we blog about?

Of course, we blog about comic books and their history, but we also blog about TV Shows, Theatrical Films, Historical Sites that have importance to the above topics, and other Pop Culture Topics!

To the right in the next column, below our photo, are some thumbnails of previous archived blog posts of ours. Additionally there are a few at the bottom of this column... Just Click on those pics to view those archived blog posts!

For those that are new to us.... We have an ongoing Comic Con  and pop culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading our joint blog post today and please join us again for more!

And again, We THANK ALL OF YOU for helping us attain this memorable 200,000 number of visitors this weekend!

Today... July 18th, 2008 we are closing in on our 200,000th visitor.  There is a possibility it would happen while we are catching "The Dark Knight" film tonight... If it does, we want to thank whomever that was that made us hit that memorable number!

You'll Never Know Who You May Meet While In Line....

At The SDCC Comic Con International!

As we don't set up at the Comic Con  International with a dealer booth, we are among the 125,000 others attendees that wait in line to get in each morning for that day's programs and exhibit hall hours.

One of the fun things is to greet others that we only see once a year from outside of the San Diego area, because they are once again coming to the Comic Con!

Then again, by the luck of the draw, we meet new people each year also while we have an early breakfast in line waiting for the doors to open.

(We get there early so as to park in the underground structure that has verrrry limited parking spaces!)

Last year's Comic Con we met several people, including one 39 year old AlexBright.

Alex is a writer and film maker as well as being a producer, co-creator and co-writer of the project now in talks for being picked up.

He told us of his work with Daniel R Kirk Jr (Dan) and shared the concept of his project with us while waiting...

As of the latest entries that I can find when googling Alex, I see that he is trying to take the comic book format and translate it to a TV Show or Film.

If we run across Alex this year, we'll be sure to blog further on this subject...

The above story is blogged today to let you know that you never know who you will meet while in line.... and that if you are friendly and greet someone you may have get to have 'line buddies' that you can find again during hard to get into programs!

And with 125,000 other attendees around during the week, that is a very important thought to keep in mind when standing in line at this or any other Comic Con!

BTW, we also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this post today and please join us again as we blog about the 2008 Comic Con after we get back!
