Adrienne Barbeau....

Went from the TV Show 'Maude' to HoRRoR movies...

Adrienne, born in 1945, played Maude's daughter on the TV Show from 1972 - 1978.

After the series ended, Barbeau was cast by her then-husband, director John Carpenter, in his 1980 horror film, The Fog.

This was her first theatrical film appearance. The film was released  on February 1, 1980 and was considered a film success, grossing over $21 million in the United States.  This helped established  Adrienne as a HoRRoR / Sci-Fi genre film star.

She then appeared in a number of early 1980s horror and science fiction films, several of which have now become favorite cult classics, including Escape From New York, Creepshow, and Swamp Thing (a comic book movie based on the DC monster comic).  See pic top left for comics adaptation.

Although Adrienne had a top selling cheesecake poster of herself in 1978, she had not posed for Playboy or other similiar mags. The Swamp Thing Movie however featured a revealing scene of her wading through the Swamp Thing's swamp.

Adrienne played the love interest of Dr. Alec Holland, who would become the Swamp Thing. This would be the first and last comic book based movie that she would star in.

For those interested in HoRRoR comic books, including those of the Swamp Thing, we have several hundred in our eBay Featured Store.

The Man From Atlantis...

In A TV Movie, A TV Show

AND Also A Comic Book Series!

The comic book series was a very short comic book series from Marvel Comics!

It ran from February 1978 to August 1978 with only 7 issues!

The comic book series was based on the TV Movies and TV Show that starred Patrick Duffy as the Man From Atlantis!

The TV Movies were four in number before NBC gave the go-ahead for the actual series for the 1977-78 season!

Unfortunately for Sci-Fi fans the TV Show only ran 17 epsiodes.

Fortunately for Patrick Duffy he immediately went to CBS' TV Show 'Dallas' that had a very long run!

'Thongor Of Lost Lemuria'

Was A Series Of  Novels From Lin Carter 1965 - 1970

AND A Marvel Comic Book Feature!

This comic book feature of 'Thongor of Lost Lemuria' was in a comic book series from Marvel Comics!

It ran in 'Creatures On The Loose' issue #22 March 1973 with a Jim STERANKO cover, to  issue #29 in May of 1974.

Previously 'Creatures Of The Loose' had published MoNSTer stories in issues #11 - 15, before publishing Gullivar Jones of Mars in issues #16 - 21.

King Kull had started the first issue of this title in March 1971, with issue #10. 'Creatures On The Loose' had previously been titled another Marvel Comic Book title, 'Tower of Shadows' which ran for the first nine issues.

Interesting Note: Thongor could have been the FIRST S&S Hero for Marvel instead of Conan, but agreement wasn't made by both parties at that time!

Ghost Guard!

Then again.... maybe YOU Shouldn't!!

The Comics Code Authority came into being because of the Hearings on Comics Books as a possible cause of junevile deliquency.

Like the comic book cover to the top left could do that!

HoRRoR and MoNSTer comics were just one of the genres that had a hard time being published during the 'witch-hunts' of the 1940's to 1950's.

I remember buying these genres of comics during the late 1960's from a used book store in San Diego. They were all coverless or the top third of the cover was clipped off.

I didn't know I was buying comics that had been stripped or clipped of the covers for credit from the comics publishers.

Now that was a HoRRoR!  Trying to figure out what comic book I was buying, as these were all 1950's comics and the indicia with the title and issue numbers were on the inside cover, not the splash page!

Because Of... WEREWOLF BY NIGHT !

WereWolf By Night was one of the HoRRoR / MoNSTer comics that Marvel Comics Started after the Comics Code Authority, (CCA),relaxed its rules on what could be printed in a comic book.

Marvel was already paying licensing fees for other properties, so it looked to characters in the Public Domain to publish in this HoRRoR MoNSTer genre.

Werewolf was one such character, and to copyright it, the 'By Night' was added.

'Werewolf By Night' ran for 43 issues from September 1972 to March of 1977.

One of the best draws this has for comic book collectors is that MIKE PLOOG drew the early issues of the comic!

From the latest San Diego Comic Con (SDCC), I found out why he left the comic.  Appears he was asked to other Marvel Characters into the comic book, one that he didn't want to draw. Thus he left this book!

With only 43 issues printed, this is a good series for HoRRoR / MoNSTer Comic Fans to collect!
