How To Store Your Comic Book Collectibles!
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Comic Book History

Use The Right Type of Box For Your  Comic Book Collectible !!!

I haven't run a blog post about this important topic in quite a while...

In an earlier post I noted that you need to bag and board your comic books, (click here for earlier post), to store them properly.

Then I posted what kind of backing boards to choose from depending on what you going to do with the comics, keep them, get ready to sell them, etc... (click here for that post).

Thirdly I posted about what kind and size of comic book bags to use, (click here for post).

This post will be what kind of boxes will best fit your comic books!  Comic Book Boxes are boxes that are actually manufactured to store comic boxes!

Most of the boxes that are manufactured for comic books storage are usually made very strong, and come with sturdy well-fitting lids and handle holes that can be left in the closed position for storing or pushed open for carrying.

Comic Book Boxes are properly sized to hold a comic in a bag with a backing board.  There are comic book boxes made for Modern Age and Silver Age Comics, and I find that Magazine Boxes are best for storing Golden Age Comics.

Short Boxes versus Long Boxes.... Trust me on this one! I have set up at comic book conventions using both sizes.  If you have access to a handcart, long boxes are fine. If you have to wait to use a handcart, then short boxes are better for carrying out to your vehichle.  If storing your comics only and not handling them other than inserting new ones, then I would go with the short boxes.  Less weight, (less comics also), and you are less likely to get a hernia lifting boxes up and down!

There are also comic book divider cards, (used for categorizing or separating titles), that fit in comic book boxes with the lid on. These are very helpful when attempting to find the comics you have already stored to insert more issues you have just bought!

Comic book boxes are normally sold or shipped flat which takes up less storage room. The boxes will fold together when you are ready to use them without using glue or tape and are easily assembled.

The main reason for storing your comics in a properly sized box is that the box helps protect your comics from corners and edges damage.

Also, placing your comics in a comic box also protects the comic from being exposed to ultra-violet light. Would you believe that ultra-violet light causes inks to fade?!!

Comic Book boxes are made from either Corrugated Plastic or Corrugated Cardboard. They come in several different lengths for your various storage/display needs.  I have used both, and find that cardboard are fine for storage and less money for our current purposes, which is storing comics in short boxes to pick and pull for comic book sales orders.

However, using corrugated plastic comic boxes could be an excellent choice for long-term comic storage for the collector because the material is normally acid-free, mostly water proof, probably vermin resistant and definitely strong to place more boxes on top.

A note about acid-free boxes. Comic storage boxes do not need to be acid-free IF you have your comics in bags already!

This post is the END of our Blog Posts on how to bag, board, and store your comic book (and magazine) collectibles.  If you have any questions, feel free to post your question below.

If you find that you have been bitten by the 'collecting bug' then check out our eBay Featured Comic Book Store for more comic book related collectibles that we have for sale starting at 99 cents plus shipping!

Our Take On The Results Show - American Idol 02-28-08

Our Take On
The American Idol
Results Show
02-28-08

Thursday Night it was the 'Results Show' where the results of "America's" votes were broadast.

This was the Second Results Show of Season 7, where 2 'boys' and 2 'girls' were sent home.

The below were the scores of the contestants that were sent home as ranked by Tina and Michael the night of their performance:

The 'Results'

(No #)

Name of ContestantMichael's TakeScore DifferenceTina's Take
1Jason Yeager   7.5  0.07.5
2

Alexandrea Lushington (pictured above)

   6.0   1.07.0
3

Alaina Whitaker

   8.5   1.07.5
4Robbie Carrico   7.0   0.57.5

The votes for so early in the process were high in number. Almost 31 million votes came in.

Also, my question on what Simon was doing with his hand during the show was semi-answered. This was because Ryan Seacrest's mother wanted Ryan to ask Simon what he was doing. Simon said it was a 'secret code'.... right!   LOL!

The following are our thoughts after watching the performances nights and the results show night:

Tina said that 2 of her 3 lowest scoring girls left last night... so she must have the pulse of America better than I do... LOL.  Tina also said at this stage of the process that there are usually too many of the same 'type' of girls and that the public can't differentiate between them, which is why you'll see some get booted off quickly because the votes are split between them...

Michael said that Alexandrea Lushington, (sorry about mis-spelling her name in an earlier post), was his lowest scoring girl, and no surprise she was booted off.

Tina has admitted to Michael that she is playing 'favorites' earlier this year, whereas Michael is judging by performances only at this point. He has no 'favorites' as of yet!

Also there's NEWS! On March 11th, the Top 12 Contestants go to a New Set!  Plus that is the Night the Lennon-McCartney Songbbook is opened for the first time for American Idol!

For those that missed our previous blog posts on this TV Show.... Please see the following link for our most previous blog post. We have been blogging about Season 7 since the first week:

Happy Early Birthday To Mark Evanier!

Mark's birthday is March 2nd... and I wanted to wish him an early Happy Birthday here in our blog post today!

He was born the same year I was, in 1952, and like myself shows no sign of slowing down... especially when seen at the SDCC San Diego Comic Con International each year!

The man must have at least 9 programs each year to moderate, and I usually take in most of those programs in either the full hour or as much as I can squeeze in between other simualtaneous programs!

Mark was fortunate to have worked for Jack 'King' Kirby for several years, and is the right person to host the Annual Jack Kirby Tribute. Additionally, until his Ultimate Jack Kirby Book is finalized, he has a current Jack Kirby Coffee Table Book out right now!

You might want to check that out....

Also, Mark is a great writer in own right, having written for TV Shows, comics and more!

For those that are interested in comics and magazines illustrated by Jack Kirby, we have several of those listed in our eBay Featured Store !

For those of you that can't make it to comic cons to see great programs like Mark Evanier moderates... We have an ongoing comic book convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and new listings of items for sale! Just click on the pic at the top left to see our listings!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post !

...the

X-Men 3:

 Last Stand

Movie!

Now that was something I didn't know until watching the after the Academy Shows!

Tina and I have not yet viewed the film 'Juno', as it hadn't hit our viewing queque yet.

So I just became familar with Ellen Page while watching the Red Carpet Show before the Oscars presentation.

Of course when she's in scenes with Halle Berry as shown at the above left, you know I'd be looking at Halle instead! LOL!

Ellen did play opposite the 'Juggernaut' in the film and as I recall did a good job of portraying the young 'Kitty Pryde' in the film....

For those that are interested in more about Kitty Pryde, Storm or others of the Uncanny X-men, we have several listed in our eBay Featured Store !

For those of you that can't make it to comic cons... We have an ongoing comic book convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and new listings of items for sale! Just click on the pic at the top left to see our listings!

Our Take American Idol 02-27-08 TV Show

American Idol TV Show
Season 7  Week 2
Night 2 - The 'Girls'
02-27-08 Our Take
Theme Was "Classics From The Seventies"!

Last Night it was the 'girls' who performed... The Top 10 of them in a 90 minute show. Here are our 'scores', (based on 1-10, 10 being highest), on each performance with the 4th column showing the difference between my score and Tina's score. The 'girls' are listed in order of performance during the night, NOT by numerical score:
The 'Girls'

(No #)

Name of ContestantMichael's TakeScore DifferenceTina's Take
1Carly Smithson   7.5   0.58.0
2

Syesha Mercado

   7.0   2.09.0
3

Brooke White

   7.0   1.08.0
4Ramiele Mulaby   7.0   1.58.5
5Kristy Lee Cook (pictured above)  8.5   0.08.5
6Amanda Overmyer 8.0   0.08.0
7Alaina Whitaker    8.5  1.07.5
8Alesandrea Washington    6.0 1.07.0
9Kady Malloy   7.0 1.08.0
10Asia'h Epperson   6.5 0.06.5

FYI, for those that followed our American Idol Blog Posts last season... you'll know that Tina and I usually don't agree on the contestants' performances until the final weeks... maybe by that time we've worn each other out judging???? LOL.

Michael's question of the night: When did Simon pick up that weird five finger (whole hand) way of resting his head on his hand???

Last night, the biggest difference between the scores was a 2.0 points difference with contestant #2 Syesha Mercado.  Michael didn't like the arrangement of the song while Tina thought it was a good enough performance for her to vote for!  Go Figure?!

What we do this early in the process is to vote for the highest one or two contestants per the score we gave them.  Michael voted for Kristy Lee Cook (pictured at top right), while Tina voted for Syesha Mercado! We each only voted for one...  Both of us thought that last night's performances were rather average which reflects in Michael's scores with several 7.0s.  Tina's numbers were a bit higher in more cases... I am really beginning to think that she is starting to play favorites already... LOL!

When the Top 24 starts getting down to the Top 12, then we'll start adding more than just a 'numerical' score. Due to space limitations on the eBay Blog format that we first post in,  we only have so much room to blog...

Well... that's it for 'The Girls'... Tonight are 'The Results'.  Be back tomorrow when we blog about 'Our Take' on American Idol's Week 2 Results!  FYI, we are on the West Coast by Legoland so there is a time zone difference in our viewing and blogging between our East Coast readers!
