Creator Of The Rocketeer And More...

Dave Stevens Passes Away...

Dave Stevens passed away March 10th 2008 from his battle with leukemia.

Dave's works have been mentioned several times in our Blog, as he is widely known for the Rocketeer in comics and film.

Plus he basically brought back Betty (Bettie)Page into pop culture when he started drawing her likeness in his comics!

Dave was only 52 years old at his passing. He was the first receipient of the Russ Manning Artist Award in 1982, and was well known for his 'Good Girl Art'.

His first published work was inking Russ Manning's comic strip 'Tarzan' in 1975.

He went on to work at Hanna-Barbera in 1977 drawing storyboards for TV Shows 'Super-Friends' and 'The Godzilla Power Hour'.

In 1982 he went on to create his most widely known character, which later became a Disney Film Feature.

He will be missed but his works live on...

Were You Aware That Eva Mendes...

Was Suggested

For The

 She-Hulk Film?

Click here to see our SHE-HULK Listings!

I have been asked why there has been no mention of Eva Mendes as being considered as the She-Hulk in our Blog.

Well... it was considered, and I have been thinking about posting that her co-star in Ghost Rider, Nicholas Cage, had wanted her to be considered for the possible role.

So when the above photo to the right was sent to us, I decided to publish this blog post today.

The possible film has gone nowhere... even tho the She-Hulk is sassy, sexy and so right for an offbeat superhero movie...

As for the choice of Eva as the 'She-Hulk', you take a look at the pic and think about it!

And yes... we do have She-Hulk comics for sale! Just click the photo at the top right!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post!

Above is Eva Mendes, leading lady in the 'Ghost Rider'. She is 'photo-shopped' to appear like the Sensational She-Hulk, who is a cousin to the Incredible Hulk!

Did She Ever Name Her Puppy???

Did She Ever Name Her Puppy?

Back in 1964 Annette Funicello starred in a Merlin Jones Film presented by Walt Disney Pictures...

In it she sang 'Puppy Love', as shown on the comic book cover to the top right!

Those that have read our blog posts know that I am an Annette fan, (strange as it may seem to my wife Tina!).

So I'm wondering... did that puppy on the cover ever get named???! And who won the free trip to Disneyland???!

By the cover you can see that there are more than just Donald Duck stories in back issues of this comic series!

Actually there are many different stories from the popular series 'Walt Disney Comics & Stories' as well as several other Disney titles from Gladstone, Dell, Gold Key and other fine publishers that have published Disney Comics since 1940!

We have several Disney Comics in high grade listed for collectors as well as a few at 99 cents for your reading pleasure!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post!

Michael

I grew up watching the Original Mickey Mouse Club with Annette and friends, so was exposed very early to Disney comics! I also enjoyed seeing her early Disney Movies as well as her later 'Beach Party' films!

There are some inexpensive Disney Comics available for starting your young Mouseketeers to read in our eBay Featured Store! Just click on the photo above to see!

Theme Was:
 "The Lennon McCartney Songbook"!

Last Night it was the 'Top 12' who performed on the New Stage! The Top 12 of them in a 2 Hour show!

Here are our 'scores', (based on 1-10, 10 being highest), on each performance with the 4th column showing the difference between my score and Tina's score. The 'contestants' are listed in order of performance during the night, NOT by numerical score:

11Kristy Lee Cook / 8 Days A Week    8.5 1.57.0
12David Archuleta    6.0 0.06.0

First of all... Michael's Take on the night:  Ryan is pictured above in this blog post because:

1) He was all over the new stage last night, making a big deal about it.  Tina didn't think it was all that much different looking on our large screen TV, so we guess you have to be there to compare the difference between it and last year's stage.

2) He kept getting into it with Simon last night.  You know... I think there was enough action on stage last night that he didn't need to needle Simon over and over.  It was 'overdone' last night IMHO. I personally think Ryan should get after Paula this year, as she is sooo off the wall on her comments.  Her comments are really 'grating' on my and Tina's ears this year!

Also, I agree with Simon... It should be a 'Talent Show', not a 'Popularity Contest' at this point!

Secondly.... Tina's Take on the night: Why is the band up in the 'penthouse' as Ryan called it?????  Toooo far away!!!

What we normally do this early in the process is to vote for the highest one or two contestants per the score we gave them.  However, tonight we decided to vote for 3 each.

Michael voted for Chikieze / David Cook / and Kristy Lee Cook who each scored 8.5 by him, while Tina voted for Chikieze / David Cook /and Amanda Overmyer!  Tina couldn't get over Michael's likeing Kristy's 'country' rendition of 8 Days A Week!  Well.... Michael thought that was really good even though the 3 Judges thought it was rushed, etc....

Due to space limitations on the eBay Blog format that we first post in, we only have so much room to blog here...

Well... that's it for 'The Top 12 Show'... Tonight are 'The Results'.  Be back soon when we blog about 'Our Take' on American Idol's Results for The Top 12!

FYI, we are on the West Coast by Legoland so there is a time zone difference in our viewing and blogging between our East Coast readers!

For those that missed our previous blog posts on this TV Show.... Please see the following link for our previous blog post. We have been blogging about Season 7 since the first week when the auditions were shown:
