TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3429: (Vinnie) Today, I am here to review the second installment of the series, 'Mouse Guard: The Black Axe.' If you don't remember the general idea of this series from my previous Mouse Guard blog post, (found here in blog #3337), then you may not know that it is about action and adenture. To be more specific, it is about mice from a council of guards to protect others from evil-doers and explore. Anyways, this comic book was sent in by Archaia Entertainment, and the story and art done by David Petersen. The following contains the promotional information provided by the publisher: The new volume of the Eisner Award-winning 'Mouse Guard' series continues! Celanawe, honor bound by his loyalty to his Guard Matriarch, accompanies Em, his only living relative, to Port Sumac. There they find a mouse just brave or crazy enough to take them across the sea and beyond the record of any map. This long sea voyage gives Em the time to explain to Celanawe about her instance for journey and how their fates will forever be tied to the Black Axe. Now, I will start off with what I felt about the storyline, followed by the art. The story seemed to start off where the last issue ended, if I remember correctly. There was no missing information needed in between the two that I could recognize. It all flowed well and made a great story. It also left off at a very dramatic point, leaving for much suspense and a place to work with in the next issue. The art was in the same beautiful style of the older Mouse Guard issues, which I enjoy greatly. It still had the 'rough' and 'smooth' looking textures in the art, which gave it a realistic, yet fictional feel. Although the town was somewhat ill-lighted, things of naturally bright colors were very vibrant. My only problem with the art is the font of the narration. Although it ties well to the theme of the story, it soon becomes harder to read. At the end, there was a 'pin-up' poster of two main characters featured in this story, drawn by Sean Rubin. I must say, it was very nice work! Overall, I was quite delighted with this marvelous publication. As I am greatly content, I give 'Mouse Guard: The Black Axe #2 (of 6) a Near Mint Minus (NM-), a 9.2 out of a 10.0 scale. I had to ding the publication for the hard to read font. I hope that the creator may find another font that has the same effect of nicely bringing the story together, but is easily legible. I thank you all for reading my blog post! ~Vinnie! ------------------- Note from Michael: Mouse Guard - The Black Axe #2 of 6, went on sale: May 4th...
