Our Take On
The American Idol
Results Show

'The Final 8'
04-10-08

Thursday Night was the 'Results Show' where the results of "America's" votes were broadast, with the ending result of one contestant being sent home... after three Nights of American Idol because of the 'Idol Gives Back' Special Show on Wednesday night!

The below were the contestants in the 'bottom three' of the Top 8 in order of their scores ranked by Tina and Michael on the night of their performance:

General news first:

More stars were shown lip synching and / or dancing to The Monkees' song 'I'm A Believer' for their time to 'Idol Gives Back'.  I personally enjoyed seeing Michael Chiklis (of The Shield TV Show / Thing from The Fantastic Four Films).

There were over 31 million votes cast for the Top 8, the highest this season.

For additional entertainment Jordin Sparks with Chris Brown sang. Tina hated the song... didn't do much for me either.  However Jordin was awarded three plaques for outstanding sales of her singles and CD.

Also, the Idols' featured song for the night sponsored by Ford Motors was 'I Just Want To Celebrate'. I found the vocals just fair, but found the video to be OK...

Then the the bottom three were on the stage.... and Michael Johns was voted off!  Carly was surprised, Michael was bowing his head in disbelief, Simon had an amused (or pained?) look on his face, and Paula of course was shocked!

Michael's closing song for the show was sung soooo much better than when he first performed it, and did you notice he didn't want to end up on stage with other Final 7 contestants?? He was on the raised platform behind the judges at the end and stayed there when the show closed out....

Secondly: The following are our thoughts after watching the results announced:

Tina said that she was surprised that Michael left so soon... but he had peaked early and made poor song choices since then.  Additionally she informed me, as she has been watching since Season 1, that 'America' usually goes for the pop singers, and Michael couldn't figure out what he wanted to be... Rock or Blues, but he definitely wasn't Pop!

Michael said that he had liked Michael Johns at the beginning and really enjoyed his 'Light My Fire' performance weeks ago, but had seemed to peak early.  However he agrees with Simon that Michael is a good singer and that he should find his way somewhere down the line and should make a go of it singing professionally...
