For You Twilight Zone Fans Out There !
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: TV Shows

The Twilight Zone...

...was a series of FOUR Comic Book Sets as well as a TV show!

We just sold some of the comics we have for sale to 'The Twilight Zone Archives' and after checking out their web site, wanted to recommend it to you for viewing!  It is at: Click Here

For others of you that are also interested in Twilight Zone Comics, there were two one-shot comics published by Dell Comics in their Four Color series, #1173 (May 1961) & #1288 (April 1962) .

Then the Gold Key Comics comic books series was published from 1962 to circa 1982 ending with issue #92.

A now defunct company, 'Now Comics', (no pun intended), published the second volume from November 1991 to March 1993.

As a lot of comic book companies did in the 1990's, Now Comics stopped publishing the second volume, and with a new #1 issue, started volume three in May 1993 which ended with #4 in August 1993. Supposedly comic companies could sell a lot of #1 issues, so several long running comic titles were 'rebooted' this way!

Compare this with the TV show, which ran from 1959 to 1964 in its' first series with 156 different episodes.

After Rod Serling sold his shares of the Twilight Zone back to the network that originally ran them, the TV Show had its' first revival from 1985 - 1989.

Then the Twilight Zone had a 2 hour TV Movie in 1994, which did not go on to become a TV Show series.

It wasn't until 2002 that UPN had a revival of the show with Forest Whitaker as the narrator. Unfortunately that revival only ran until 2003!

For those interested in Twilight Zone Comics and other HoRRoR / MoNSTer comics, we have several hundred comic books in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store.

Thank you for reading this comic books blog post, and feel free to comment!  Plus take a look at the Twilight Zone Archives !

eBay's Marketing team created a new Transformers Hub !
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book Movies

 Transformers Hub

The new movie Transformers opens in theaters on July 4th, and eBay is  getting the fun started a little early. To celebrate the opening of the movie, eBay has created
a new Transformers Hub at :
http://transformers.eBay.com.
There you'll find all things Transformers, such as movie trailers, exclusive still photos, and links to Transformers-related merchandise and eBay Groups.
.
This is on top of the fact that the Transformers Movie is getting a LOT OF BUZZ already.... because Steven Spielberg is Executive Producer of this movie!   PLUS Director Michael Bay is going to deliver a live-action theatrical film based on the 1980s cartoon about robotic aliens using Earth as a battleground!
The movie is jam-packed with cool effects, action and Michael Bay's signature talent for blowing stuff up! Take a look at the Movie Trailer when you get a chance!

For those of you that are new to the Transformers Universe, it can be a complicated one to understand!

The Transformers toyline, cartoon series, comic books, and previous movie all owe their existence to the Japanese toyline, Microman. In 1980, the Microman spin off, Diaclone, was released. It featured inch-tall humanoid figures who were able to sit in the drivers' seats of scale model vehicles.  The vehichles could transform into humanoid robot bodies the drivers piloted... whew what a concept!!

My main interest is in the Marvel Comics comic book line. Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief at that time, Jim Shooter, produced a story concept for the series, creating the idea of the two warring factions of alien robots – the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons.

Having the concept Shooter then called upon veteran comics editor Dennis O'Neil to create character names and profiles for the cast of characters. Unfortunately O’Neill’s work – for whatever reason – did not meet with Hasbro’s expectations, and they requested heavy revisions to the whole concept.

O’Neill declined to make the requested revisions, and the project was then turned down by several other writers and editors until editor Bob Budiansky accepted the daunting task. After a weekend's marathon of work, Budiansky’s new names and profiles were a hit with Hasbro, and thus production began on a bi-monthly four-issue comic book miniseries, and three-part television pilot! The Transformers TV show, toy line and comic book series went on to great success in the USA !

NOTE:  There was a previous Transformers movie before this new one due out in July....  In 1986 the summer release of  'The Transformers: The Movie' was released. However it was a critical and box-office flop. Hopefully this new movie will increase exposure to the Transformers Universe!

For those interested in 'Transformers' and other Toy based  comics we have several of those comic books in our eBay Featured Comic Book Store and more in our eBay Pro Store !

Terry O'Quinn Not 'LOST' But ' HUGHES' !
Mood:  bright
Topic: Comic Book Movies

Terry O'Quinn,

Best Known Currently As John Locke in the TV Show 'LOST',

Was Howard HUGHES...

...in the 1991 Disney Film 'The Rocketeer' !

The Rocketeer was created by writer/penciller Dave Stevens. The Rocketeer first appeared as a back-up feature in Pacific Comics' Starslayer #2 (1982).

The Rocketeer is a homage to the pulp heroes of the 1930s and 1940s, when pulps not comics ruled the fiction universe.

Briefly, the Rocketeer was a stunt pilot who discovered a mysterious jet pack that allowed him to fly. His adventures were set in 1938 Los Angeles and Dave Stevens gave the adventures a retro, nostalgic feel, influenced by, among other things, the old Commando Cody movie serials and pinup diva Bettie Page.

Rocketeer stories appeared as backup features from 1982 to 1995, and were published in Pacific, Eclipse Comics, Comico Comics and Dark Horse Comics. The stories gained a cult following and critical acclaim despite what turned out to be long stretches between story installments.

Walt Disney Pictures released a film version starring Billy Campbell in the title role in 1991.

Terry O'Quinn, with a lot of hair, played a good role as Howard Hughes, and was believeable in it! I don't recall seeing Terry in too many pictures, but a look at his screen credits will show you he had several roles before hitting it big in the TV series 'Lost' !

The movie did not gross a big box office as Disney had expected , coming in only at 47 million domestic, so no sequel was ever filmed.

This is one of my favorite 'comic book' movies, I love seeing the pre-WWII involvement of the USA on film !

For those interested in the Rocketeer comic books, we have a few in our eBay Featured Store.

Bettie Page, Dave & Brinke Stevens, Jennifer Connelly

This Year is the 25th Anniverary of the ROCKETEER !

... in comic books, not the film!  To celebrate, the SDCC International, (San Diego Comic Con International), will be honoring the comic books/film at the July 2007 convention!

Jennifer Connelly, (pic bottom right), played the role of the Rocketeer's girlfriend 'Jenny', who was modeled after Bettie Page in the comic books.

Bettie Page, (pic top right), was the beautiful 'notorious' art model of the 1950's that Dave Stevens had used images of in his comics. His 'Betty' in the comics was also an 'art model', and the Rocketeer had to rescue her more than once, (see middle pic for sample artwork).

Dave's wife Brinke was his model for the 'Betty' character, and Brinke went on to become a 'Scream Queen' and a comic book heroine also (Brinke of Destruction, etc) !

However, since this was a Disney movie, the 'notorious' Bettie Page reference would not do and thus 'Betty' in the comics became 'Jenny' in the movie and had a more 'sanitized' job of wanting to become an actress !!

The movie did not gross a big box office as Disney had expected , coming in only at 47 million domestic, so no sequel was ever filmed, although the actors were signed for a sequel!

This is one of my favorite 'comic book' movies, I love seeing the pre-WWII involvement of the USA on film !

For those interested in the Rocketeer comic books, we have a few in our eBay Featured Store.
