Will He Be Next ???

If Underdog Is Getting His Own Movie...

Is Captain Nice Far Behind ???

I just don't know how far this craziness is going to go!!! We have the following cartoon or comic books based film movies coming out soon... or in the works to come out later...

They are (in no particular order): Transformers, the Simpsons, Underdog, Iron Man, Wolverine, Ant-Man, Sub-Mariner, Batman #?, Superman #?, Wonder Woman (?), Get Smart, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and several more!

But no mention of that great TV personality, Captain Nice!!!

Well for those that don't know, Captain Nice was a truly funny comedy TV series that ran from January-May 1967 on the NBC network.  The show's premise involved the police chemist Carter Nash, who was a mild-mannered mama's boy and discovered a secret formula that, when taken, transformed him into 'Captain Nice'.

Truly Captain Nice didn't behave much differently from Carter Nash himself. In fact, Captain Nice ran around in a pajama looking costume sewn lovingly by his mother.

Carter Nash chose the superhero name 'Captain Nice' since he already had items monogramed 'CN'. Among his many superpowers included the ability to fly, but Captain Nice was nervous about doing so as he was afraid of heights!

Carter did have a girlfriend in the same police department, one Sgt. Candy Kane. Candy looked like the typical meter maid, but there was something about her that definitely attracted Carter, as well as his alter-ego Captain Nice!

This TV series was created by Buck Henry, who was a co-creator of the spy hit TV series Get Smart, (mentioned in a previous blog post).

The Carter Nash / Captain Nice role was played by William Daniels, who later gained critical acclaim and won several Emmy Awards as Dr. Mark Craig on the drama St. Elsewhere believe it or not !!

Ann Prentiss, younger sister of actress Paula, played the role of Candy Kane.

Alice Ghostley played the role of Carter's mother. For those baby boomers who watched a lot of TV, she also played the klutzy Aunt Esmerelda on Bewitched!

Well that's it for this blog post!  I've pitched Captain Nice for a film movie enuff for now!!

For those interested in seeing more TV Show & Movie comic books, we have several comics listed in our eBay Featured Store

Thanks for viewing this pop culture / comic book blog post.... and feel free to comment!

Michael

The above comic book cover was from the Gold Key Comic Book, 'Captain Nice #1, a 'one-shot' publication from November 1967!

Godzilla Fan Magazine

Godzilla Fan Magazine

During a recent buying trip I picked up several issues of a Godzilla Fan Magazine called 'G-Fan'.

The magazine is Edited and Published by J.D. Lees.

It is the fanzine of 'The Godzilla Society of North America' !

I was not previously aware of its presence, as I have been basically just a reader of the Marvel Comics series of Godzilla from the Bronze Age of Comics, and a viewer of the occasional Godzilla movie with my youngest son.

He and I are exploring together the more famous movies from the recent past, ones that would be of interest a kid of his age.... we have finished the Indiana Jones Trilogy, the Back to the Future Trilogy, the first Star Wars Trilogy and have been watching old Godzilla movies from Blockbuster.

The magazine is still being published, and I believe would be valuable to the more than occasional viewer of Godzilla movies. The web site is at: www.G-fan.com

My son and I both enjoyed reading the back issues of G-Fan, and I am now listing those after reading them all.

Regarding Godzilla Comics and movies.... For those interested in additional Godzilla comic books, we have them listed in our eBay Featured Store   as available.

What's That Up In The Sky ?

Is It A Bird?

Is It A Plane?

No, It's Underdog!

Coming YOUR way August 3rd!

With all the Comic Book Movies that are being released this year, they remind me that for years super-heroes were already on TV in the mid 1960's due to the 'Batmania' craze!

For instance, Underdog was one of several cartoon characters created to help General Mills sell breakfast cereals to kids on TV!  Really!!

Underdog shows ran in two part and four part serial episodes.  There were about 124 episodes that ran from 1964 to 1973.

Underdog became part of other shows in syndication since and has lasted into the 21st Century.  However those shows are a compilation of several shows co-mingled together and are not the true first showings of Underdog's TV show.

Today, most of the mainstream public knows him because of the Underdog Balloon in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Underdog of course had his own comic books... what self-respecting superhero wouldn't??!

Charlton comics printed 10 issues that were published from 1970 - 1972. Gold Key Comics published Underdog for 23 issues from 1975  - 1979.  Then Spotlight Comics had 3 issues in 1987, and Harvey Comics had a one shot in 1993.  Underdog has made the comic books publishing rounds all right!!

For those interested in seeing more TV Show & Movie comic books, we have several comics listed in our eBay Featured Store !  Thanks for reading this comic book / popular culture blog post!

Michael

Have No Fear.... Underdog is Here!   August 3rd!    Underdog is a real beagle in this live action movie film, but CGI effects will be used for the super-heroics!

This is probably how YOU best know him, as Underdog!  His alter ego was 'Shoeshine Boy'... both characters were voiced by Wally Cox!
