It's About Time We Had Snakes on Our Blog!

' Snakes On A Plane '

Is But One Of The

275 DVD Reviews

That We Have Posted!!

Gotta Admit We Saw the Preview For This... At the SDCC (San Diego Comic Con International) Last July before the movie hit the big screen in August 2006.

We saw the preview, members of the cast, and the snake wrangler!

So we were prepared for what the movie would be like.

However the movie is so much better on DVD, and the bonus features are informative too on how the movie was made.

The blooper reel was OK, the deleted scenes were interesting, and the snakes featurette, well... let's just keep them off the planes from now on!

The music video was OK... liked it better when it was shown at the end of the movie credits.

The commentary by Jackson and the director Ellis was good to have on DVD; makes having the DVD worthwhile for fans of the movie!

Samuel L Jackson knew how to work the crowd at the Comic-Con, and he
came across on the movie just as well !!

This movie is not for the squeamish, and that should be considered before renting or buying this DVD !  The movie is rated 'R'.

This DVD is just one of 365 total reviews we have posted on eBay Guides & Reviews!

Currently we have 275 DVDs reviewed, plus 15 VHS, 7 Music CDs, and 68 books.

Yes, since our sales niche is "comic book, sci-fi and pop culture related", we do have a lot of comic book movies or books on comics reviewed.

BUT we also have reviews on 'chick flicks' and dramas as Tina tries to balance out the 'action movies' that we watch with other movies!  AND I personally loved viewing 'Miss Potter' last week featuring Renee Zellweger!

So just click on the links above with the white colors to be taken to our reviews on DVDs, VHS, CDs and Books for what should be a pleasurable viewing or reading night!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and feel free to post your comment below or on the review that we posted!

Almost 10,000 Visitors To THIS Blog !

WHO Will Be THE 10,000 th Visitor To Our Blog??

( Since July 15, 2006 ! )

Site Meter

We are on course to have our 10,000th Visitor to our Blog BEFORE our one year anniversary of installing a hit counter with stats!  And we are talking 'visitors' not 'hits' or 'page views' !!

Hopefully the 10,000th visitor will post a comment, not everyone does when viewing, so that we can thank them personally for helping us reach that landmark!!

This Blog Was Started June 7th 2006 shortly after eBay announced it was starting blogs!

We announced our projected 10,000 visitor by July 15th earlier this morning and it looks like we will get there before the 15th at the rate the blog has been looked at today !!

Our first blog post was about seeing the last of the X-Men movies trilogy, X-Men III, and that we were listing several X-Men comics for sale because of the good review we gave the movie and interest in anything X-Men was growing...

Our second blog post came the next day, June 8th, where we proudly stated that we had hit the 5,000 mark of active listings in our eBay Featured Store!

The earliest blog posts were simple text with a small pic or two.  Having been the publisher of a Family Genealogical Newsletter for 15 years, I wanted to make this blog post a little fancier and started adding graphics and links to previous blog posts for newcomers to the blog.  I have since been adding graphic links at the bottom of the main post as eBay is archiving the blogs only in html script.

When Tina bought the domain name www.ComicBookCollectorsBlog.com to distribute our blog posts even further than the eBay community, I proceeded to add each post to both the eBay Blog & Our Own Blog. Additionally I have submitted both to different Blog Directories for exposure outside the eBay community.

Today we get several visitors each day, with a few that add their comment to our blog posts. For non-ebayers, our domain name web site blog is the place to post your comment if you don't want to join eBay!

We want to thank YOU for checking out this blog post today, and appreciate all of YOU who have checked out our posts in the past months since July 15th 2006 when we added on a stats meter !

John Carter from ERB
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book History

John Carter was a character from the author 'ERB'

Those are the initials for....  Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875March 19, 1950) who was a famous American author.

He was best known for his creation of the jungle hero Tarzan, although he also produced works in many genres.

Those other works were the John Carter of Mars series (adapted to comic book form shown at the top right), the Pellucidar series, the Venus series, the Caspak series, and the Moon series!

There have been several fanzines that elaborate further on ERB's works, among them ERB-dom, ERBania, Tarzine and others.

We have listed a few from my personal library for those that are into ERB's works, and would like to know more about the man and/or his works of fiction.

Just click on the photo of Tarzan to the right for the listings.

For those interested in 'Tarzan' comics, we have several from those comic books series in our eBay Featured Comic Book Store also!

Thanks for reading this pop culture / comic books blog post! Feel Free to Comment !!

This is but one of the several ERB books formatted to comics books!

Herman Brix played 'Tarzan' in one of several Tarzan serials.

' Volver '

Is But One Of The

275 DVD Reviews

That We Have Posted!!

This DVD 'Volver' kept our interest basically because it is a foreign film in Spanish with English subtitles.  You had to pay attention to the subtitles or lose your place in the movie!

However it was not hard paying attention to this movie! The director Pedro Almovodar played this movie out in a storyline that had mystery, murder, black comedy, drama, and even a sort of magic realism.

The murders in the movie were dealt with differently than most movies. There were no police chases, it was done matter of factly, and touched so many people in the movie. No overblown shooting or blow-'em-up action here!

Penelope Cruz won a Cannes Award for her role in this. She actually could act in this movie, and in the bonus features she said she was glad she came back to her roots for this film.

Carmen Maura, (who is considered Spain's Sophia Loren), played an older woman, (Penelope's thought dead Mother), and was very good in the role!

This is a thoughtful yet black comedy film about the female characters in this intricate study of three generations of women who didn't always get along.

The director returned to his hometown to shoot this film and it shows that his heart was in this production.

'Volver' which in Spanish means "to return" does have a strangeness to it, and may not be for everyone's taste.

We enjoyed it, and recommend it for those that like foreign films with sub-titles and the genre this film is in.
