That Was The 'Catch Phrase' of the Early Transformers Cartoons!

eBay was promoting the newly released TRANSFORMERS movie on its' home page up until opening day!

For those of you who haven't seen the movie yet, you'll see the connection between eBay and the movie right from the beginning of the movie!

eBay has more than just product placement in the movie... but I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen the movie or comic book adaptation yet!

This movie is rated PG-13.  Steven Spielberg is Executive Producer of this movie... PLUS the Director is Michael Bay so there will be a lot of blow-'em-up action of course!

The movie is a live-action theatrical film based on the 1980s cartoon about robotic aliens using Earth as a battleground!

For those interested in 'Transformers' and other Toy based  comics we have several of those comic books in our eBay Featured Comic Book Store !

Thanks for reading this popular culture / comic books blog post! Feel Free to Comment Below !!

Are YOU Selling THESE ? If So You Need This Guide!

If YOU

Are Selling THESE,

You Need THIS Guide!

( Yes, I'm Talking About Selling Comics AND It Could Be YOU Selling A Few Soon Yourself! )

This is Just One of The

370 Reviews

In Our eBay Reviews Section!

Usually this blog post publishes our latest review on a movie out on DVD, but we also review books, which put us up to 370 total reviews which we feel are of value to you, our blog reader!

Currently we have 279 DVDs reviewed, plus 15 VHS, 7 Music CDs, and 69 books.

Yes, since our sales niche is "comic book, sci-fi and pop culture related", we do have a lot of comic book movies or books on comics reviewed.

This blog post is on a MOST important topic, that of grading comic books!  I see too many eBay sellers state their listing is for 'good condition comics' when 'Good' is sub-par condition and NOT what collectors are looking for!

No, I don't want you as a seller to list 'poor' condition comics as 'Near Mint' Comics, thus overgrading, but in all fairness You as a seller should get a fair amount for your comic(s) you are selling!

Not trying to list a comic with a grade or even worse, putting up a poor quality pic WITHOUT a scan of the comic, is just asking someone who is more knowledgeable in comics to come in and basically 'steal' them from you!

On the other hand, I have seen hundreds of listings with comics being listed and NOT sold because the seller thinks their comic(s) are old and thus 'rare' no matter what condition the comic is in!  Thus I see it re-listed and re-listed and only eBay makes any money from that activity!

So just click on the grading guide cover to the top right to be taken to the product info as to what you should be either buying or checking out at your local library to see if they have one!  And no, we don't have any for sale, sorry!  Consider this just a 'public service announcement post'!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and feel free to post your comment below or on the review itself that we posted!

The Review !
As part of our eBay Blogs we are reading and reviewing books related to our sales niche....

We have been asked how we have such good feedback when dealing with collectibles where grading is of utmost importance!

Well, I have been collecting comics since the 1960's, so it has been basically self-taught. However you can't learn thru osmosis thru this blog on how to grade comics, so what is there for you as a seller to use?   So the following review is for YOU as an eBay Seller!

-------------

When Selling on eBay, This Guide is very important to you!

In real estate the keywords are location, location, location.

In comic book collecting it is condition, condition, condition!

This book, 'Overstreet Comic Book Grading Guide', has multiple color examples of the different grades that are used in describing a comic book's condition.

This edition is a little more 'lax' in 'grading' in my opinion than the first edition.  However it is considered the 'standard' when comic book grades are discussed.

Comic book grading is NOT an objective science. It is a Subjective science. Why is that?  Well, a defect that one collector might think would make it not collectible for him/her may be perfectly acceptable to another collector!

Some collectors will not buy any comics that have a 'store stamp' stamped on the front cover. Others will see that as part of the comic's history and will buy it.

I have personally attended several 'Grading Panels' at the San Diego Comic Con International where of the five panel guests, you could get five different opinions of grading the same comic!  These included prominent dealers of good standing and length of time selling comics. These panels also included the main representative of CGC, who do most of the slabbing 'encapsulated' comic 3rd party grading.

Personally I don't like off center comics, yet after visiting a few local comic book stores that received back graded comics from CGC, found that off center comics are not downgraded that much!

CGC has not to my knowledge published what their grading standards are, so for those that are selling, (or even buying), on eBay, this book is a MUST purchase!  A 'Good' condition comic is definitely NOT Good to collect after the year 1968 for example!

Sellers, Learn your grades and purchase this book!  Or at least show a LARGE scan of the comic book you are attempting to sell, or you will LOSE money when selling!!

Walking The Green Mile !

Most Recent Reviews!

As part of our eBay Blogs we are watching all the movies based on comic books or comic strips etc to see if they are entertaining or even watchable....

In addition we are watching other movies, such as this one, which have become part of 'pop culture'.  Stephen King's books are part of 'pop culture'.

This Is A Great Stephen King Book Adaptation to the Big Screen!

Tom Hanks is outstanding as Paul Edgecomb, who was a Louisiana security guard who was the 'Boss' of Cellblock 'E' which was the death row in this prison during the Great Depression in 1935.

Paul's life is changed forever when John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a giant of a black man who was convicted of raping and murdering two white girls is admitted to the cellblock.

John Coffey definitely does not fit into the mold of a psychopathic killer, which puzzles Paul. John is so kind, gentle, and even afraid of the dark!

The storyline takes a Stephen King twist or two in the telling.

This is a long move.... but it is so interesting we didn't get bored at all!

Michael Clarke Duncan, who went on to play the gigantic Kingpin in the Daredevil movie, is outstanding in this role. You would believe he truly has this power that he uses in the movie!

Tina won't watch most HoRRoR movies, and shys away from Stephen King movies,
but this one had such good press that she took a chance on it and was pleased!

This was my second time viewing the movie, and the DVD has a good bonus feature in the 'making of the movie'.

Also, Dabbs Greer who plays Paul Edgecomb in the present plays a good role, and David Morse and Barry Pepper are also good in their roles as Paul's fellow prison guards.

Recommended viewing!  It is rated 'R'.

Michael (and Tina)

Don't Trust A Black Scorpion!

Most Recent Reviews!

As part of our eBay Blogs we are watching all the movies based on comic books or comic strips etc to see if they are entertaining or even watchable....

This is a terrible 'B Movie' !! I continued to watch it till the end for our blog report, but Tina pulled out her book and read that until the end of the movie. Every so often she would make a wisecrack about a scene that had just ended in her 'Jersey Girl' way of talking.

Tina had liked Joan Severance in her role on the TV Show 'Wiseguy'. She thought that this movie wasted her talents! I informed her that Joan had gone on to do a sequel as Roger Corman has boasted that none of his movies had ever lost money so someone must have liked the first movie!!

Tina said that was because none of the actors could act in this movie and that Roger saved a lot of money by hiring these actors! I would tend to agree with that statement!

The movie does feature a sexy Joan Severance in the lead role of the Black Scorpion. The Black Scorpion is based on a comic book heroine. I have not read any of the Black Scorpion comics, and after this film.... well they won't be on the top of my list to find at the SDCC later this month!!

This film was advertised to be a Roger Corman erotic thriller. (The Movie is rated 'R'.)

It was not erotic, basically it was 'gratious sex scenes' and definitely not a thriller. There was no suspense at all.

Funny thing is, I could see scenes in this movie that looked so similar in the later film 'Catwoman' starring Halle Berry. Especially between Black Scorpion and her alter ego's boyfriend when Black Scorpion seduces the boyfriend. However Catwoman (Halle Berry) was much better at that!

Also the movie is stated to be about "a sexy undercover cop turns into a one-woman vigilante squad--Black Scorpion--following the murder of her father".

Well, Joan is sexy looking and the Black Scorpion costume accentuates her great looks, a little too much for Tina!

The fight scenes are not realistic, of course this is a mid 1990's film, and a Roger Corman film, so that can be understood.

I found the transformation of Darcy's (the alter ego of Black Scorpion) orange Corvette into the Scorpion-mobile to be cool, but Tina thought it was laughable. There were some other scenes in this movie that reminded Tina of the hoky-ness of the 1966 Batman TV series. However this movie was not made for laughs so it missed the mark with Tina!

One last point, that of the villain. His origin was OK, but the costume was so bad... it was so bad it reminded me how bad the Green Goblin's costume was in the Spider-Man I movie.

Due to the gratitous sex scenes, the poor plotline, and the unrealistic fight scenes we will not be viewing the sequel to this movie. Tina refuses!!

LOL, Michael (and Tina)
