TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3438: (Vinnie) This blog post I'm writing is about a mini comic called "Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of," written and illustrated by Jim Siergey. You can view a blog of another mini-comic that Jim sent in, which was reviewed by my dad, by clicking here. Well... On to the show! There isn't any specific storyline. It is basically a collection of one page 'short stories'. In other words, an 'anthology' comic or in this case 'comix'. The inside front cover has a frame containing (what appears to be) a joke about how this comic came to be, as well as the indicia. The book is only 2 pieces of paer folded over, making 8 pages including the front and back cover. The artwork is different for each story, depending on the theme. Meaning, the comic strip of a character run down by a train is cartoony, where as a joke with people calling each other looks a bit more realistic. One last note: there is no color! (Other than the blue pager that it is printed on, LOL!) But Jim sure does put the shadowing effect to good use! I found all the stories to be funny, which I'm thinking is just an example of his personality. In conclusion, I give this mini-comic "Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of" a Fine/Very Fine (F/VF), a 7.0 out of 10.0 grade scale. You can also buy this comic at the Weird Muse shop on eCrater for a $1.00 plus shipping. While you are there, you will see many other mini-comix to add to your order from Jim's creative mind... ~Vinnie! ---------------------------------------- (Michael) Thanks, Vinnie! Back in Blog #3421 I blogged about the first of the two mini-comics that Jim Siergey sent in for possible review, as seen here, 'Nart Again'. I thought that I should 'introduce' Vinnie to a mini-comic that he could blog on, as most of the publications he has blogged on so far have been more for 'mainstream' readers. Since I enjoyed the earlier mini-comic and this one also, I felt that Jim's sense of humor was fun and not risque for Vinnie's age group, (pre-teen). I give this minix-comix a VERY FINE / VERY FINE PLUS (VF/VF+) 8.25 out of a 10.0 possible comic book grading scale. The artwork & gags were fun & clean, even though it was titled a 'mini-comix' instead of a 'mini-comic'. Again, as stated before, 'anthology' comics like this one are harder to 'review blog', as the multiple stories may or may not 'hit on all 8 cylinders' for the reader / reviewer. It's a matter of 'taste', and anthologies with one page 'stories / art' are a little hader to review / grade. Thus the difference in 'grading' this publication between Vinnie and myself. Also, as Vinnie showed above... The place to order this mini-comix is at the eCrater Store for Weird Muse. He collects the 'Amazing Spider-Man' comic book series, but is open to read other titles from publishers that print titles that are age appropriate for him. He also has been attending 'behind the scenes' events, such as the one he blogged about ht here: Vinnie's Special 'Look at The Captain Rochester Party for the Artists' at the recent 2010 Comic-Con International: San Diego! He really had fun meeting and having dinner with Sergio Aragones, Bob Burden, Scott Shaw! and others there at this exclusive after hours Comic-Con Party in San Diego!
