TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3300: Vinnie was with us last weekend, and formatted a few blogs for me to post here as needed. Vinnie read the first issue of this ongoing series, and due to his interest in the historical theme, chose it to be one of his blogs. Thanks again, Vinnie! ------------------------
We got this comic from when we visited the Small Press section at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con International. This weekend my dad needed additional content for his blog. Normally, when I come to my dad's house for a weekend, I write one blog, but this weekend, I wrote three. He just needed a little more help since things are busy, and since I enjoy reading comics and could improve on my writing skills... why not?! I looked through a couple comics and this was one that looked interesting, and was (sort of) age appropriate, so I read it, and am blogging about it. I mainly picked it for my interest in wizardry and magic (for the fictional side), and Merlin as well as King Arthur and his Round Table (for it's non-fictional counterpart). Well anyways, onto the part you have (hopefully) been waiting for - the review! The Front Cover (drawn by Edi Guedes) depicts the main characters in this issue- Merlin, and his daughters Breeta, Mina, and Skye, and who appears to be their mentor, Tristana. The kingdom of King Arthur is in the background, and a dragon appears as though ready to strike. The Inside Front Cover has a "Table of Contents" thing giving credit where credit is due (sorry, just had to say it). It also gives a little teaser that entices the potential reader to read on. The Interior Pages contain the story and illustrations which I really liked due to my interest in wizardry, magic, and medieval times. The story, although was't very long, nor told much in this issue (mind you, this is issue #1), it was still fairly good. Just at some parts, I wasn't always sure what storyline was trying to be told. It seemed to kind of "jump around" per se/ The illustrations were good, and were drawn in a medieval styled way (to me at least) it seems. Overall, it was a little above moderate, but my infatuation with the theme kind of put it near the top for me. The Inside Back Cover just had an advertisement of another comic of Jester Press comics, so not much of a big deal for me. Onto the Back Cover! The Back Cover, unfortunately has yet again... another advertisement, probably the printer(?). Now only if there could have been something about the comic that was inside?! Overall. I would still give the comic book, "The Daughters of Merlin" #1 a comic book grade of Very Fine Plus (VF+), a 8.5 on a 10.0 grading scale. Thank you for reading my review.
