STAR WARS Is  Celebrating Its' 30th Anniverary This Weekend  With A Convention in LA !

PLUS your local USPS office had the stamps shown on the right up for sale on May 24th, 2007.

Depicted on the  Star Wars saga commemorative sheet are 15 First-Class Mail stamps featuring familiar characters and vehicles from the six movies in the saga.

They include Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca, Princess Leia Organa and R2-D2, C-3PO, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Emperor Palpatine, Imperial Stormtroopers, Boba Fett, the “Millennium Falcon,” an X-wing starfighter, Queen Padmé Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Maul.  (Whew!)

Believe it or not, thirty million Star Wars commemorative sheets ,(totalling 450 million Star Wars stamps), are being printed !!

I first saw the original Star Wars movie, (Episode 4), when it first came out. I have since seen all 6 of the movies, but the first three released are still my favorites!

The stamp sheet to the top right is not to be missed for collectors of Star Wars memorabilia for their personal collections!

When No One Escapes Alive...

From The Vault of Evil ??!!

This was a 1970's HoRRoR / Monster comic book series from Marvel Comics with twenty-three issues in total.

The series ran from February 1973 to November 1975 and is but one of several reprint HoRRoR and MoNSter comics that Marvel published after the Comics Code Authority, (CCA), loosened its' stringent rules and policies.

The comics were originally published at 20 cents cover price, and moving to 25 cents cover price by the end of its' print run.

Several of the stories reprinted were from pre-Marvel Comics days, when the company was known as Atlas Comics.

The comics today range in price from $12.00 to $60 in Near Mint (NM 9.4) unslabbed 'raw' grade.

The 3rd party graded (CGC) comic to the top right is issue #1 and in NM- 9.2 grade, has averaged $43.00 during the last 12 months in value, and had hit a high of $93.00 at one time.

Vault of Evil was started during the time that Marvel Comics was flooding the newstands with titles, trying to increase its' market share!

The HoRRoR / MoNSter genre increased in volume of sales for Marvel and also DC Comics during the early 1970's. Even Dell Comics, with their 'Dell Comics Are Good Comics' motto, were printing HoRRoR comics as evidenced by the the CGC graded comic 'Ghost Stories' to the right!

For those interested in checking out HoRRoR and MoNSter comics we have several unslabbed and CGC graded comics listed in our eBay Featured Comic Books Store and eBay Pro Store.

Flying Our Whirligigs This Weekend At Our BBQ !

Flying Our Whirligigs This Weekend At Our BBQ !

That's right!  We are having out of town family members over for a BBQ tomorrow, which reminded me to put out the whirligigs that we have!   Tina painted one for herself after my dad cut it out for her.  He sells animals, birds, and cartoon whirligigs right here on eBay in his own eBay store!

Why should YOU have a whirligig?  Well if you take a few minutes to properly install your whirligig, wherever you buy one from, it should give you years of pleasure...

The main considerations are that the setup is strong enough to endure wind in your area, and that the wings or legs on your whirlibird don't hit obstructions -such as top of the fence.

Safety precuations, moving parts can spin fast. Install so as to not present a danger to other people.

Using a Pole - To get the height needed for clearance, most people use a pole or dowel.

To avoid splitting the pole, you may need to drill a 3/16" diameter hole 1 " deep.

Then tap the setup nail that was included with your Whirlibird point down into the hole.

The Whirlibird should be able to turn freely on a setup nail, without scraping the top of the pole.

Also make sure your Whirlibird doesn't hit the side of the pole as it turns.

If you don't have a setup nail, (if one didn't come with a whirli you bought somewhere else),then cut the head off a 20d penny sized four inch galvanized common nail.

Have fun flying your new whirli !!

For those interested in  whirligigs check out my dad's eBay store by clicking on the seagull whirlibird below !

SUPERMAN Comics For Sale Starting at ONLY 99 CENTS!

Hollywoodland  and Superman...

We missed this movie at the theaters when it first came out... and during the past TV Season we did not renew our BlockBuster movie pass, so did not have a chance to view it on DVD.

However, we are now on 'Total Access' and so I checked out this movie as I put it near the top of my want list to rent.  Tina didn't have the same urge to watch it, but got caught up in the movie as she remembered the reruns of the TV show.

The movie had a good storyline... But Sad.... It is Not a movie to watch if you are feeling down, and definitely not a family movie with all the language and sexual scenes.

Being a baby boomer I grew up watching the Adventures of Superman on TV, both in black and white and in color. Of course I would check out the reruns later...

Ben Affleck really comes across on screen as George Reeves and as the Superman of the old black & white TV days.

This is a recommended rental DVD... not for sure if it is suitable for a home film library to put this in, and as it is not truly a superhero comic book movie probably not for a collector either. Since it is sad and doesn't have a true closing it possibly is not one I would recommend for a second viewing.

Additionally due to the lack of a true closing Tina didn't feel like the movie ended. She felt that the movie just spun its' wheels for the last hour...

For those that enjoyed Superman in the comics, we have several issues in our eBay Featured Store starting at 99 cents!

New Movie Poster Starring Robert Downey Jr !
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book Movies

Launching May 2nd of 2008!

The IRON MAN Movie !

That's right!  The new movie poster is shown to the right, just above the photo of the Iron Man suit that we ran a few weeks ago in this blog!

The Iron Man movie is now in production with  Robert Downey Jr (as Iron Man), Gwyneth Paltrow (as Pepper Potts), and Terrence Howard (as War Machine),  in the Jon Favreau-directed film.

This is the first film in which Marvel Entertainment provides the financing through its arrangement with Merrill Lynch, so this needs to be a blockbuster film for the stockholders!

It looked like a good movie script at the SDCC, but the casting so far is a little strange in my opinion!  And now it looks 'back to its' roots' for inspiration!  That's the first thing of this movie that I personally like so far !!!

As a reminder, Marvel Entertainment has recently cast Paltrow to play Virginia "Pepper" Potts, who is the personal assistant to Tony Stark, the millionaire playboy, whose alter ego is Iron Man.

Pepper Potts was first introduced in the comic book, Tales of Suspense #45 in September of 1963 !  See bottom right for the comic book cover. There will have to be some changes made to Gywneth for her to look even close to how Pepper was portrayed in the comics....

Then again, Kirsten Dunst is a blonde who plays a redhead in the Spider-Man movies, and the new female character who plays Gwen Stacy is a red-head that plays the blonde part.... So Go Figure.... That's the Magic of Hollywood !!

Gywneth starred in 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow', which I really enjoyed... so I am willing to give her a chance at this role in Iron Man. Just as I am more willing to give this movie a chance, with it going back to the original armor to start out with... (maybe in flashback??).

For those interested in the Invincible Iron Man comic books, we have a few listed in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store.
