Comic Book Marketplace Magazine!

This magazine was started by Gary Carter, our 'neighbor' here in San Diego County!

I enjoyed his magazine when it first came out... it was mostly ads with a few articles. The magazine was paperstock with a paper cover at first.
As time went on the ads grew less and less and the articles increased in size and graphics. The magazine went to slick pages and slick paperstock covers. It was a great magazine during its run out here on the West Caost!

Then the changes came. The magazine was then published back East. Then Gary was no longer associated with the magazine.
The magazine had a brief hiatus and came back. The articles were good and the new editor tried a new approach that didn't please everyone. I started buying individual issues from our LCBS instead of having a subscription.  I started selling my once complete collection as the earliest issues were commanding good money at auction as I no longer was a 'completist' with a complete run of the title.

We occasionally get in copies of the magazine. It is a great introduction to the world of comic book collecting.  Check out our stock of back issues by clicking on the CBM cover at the top left!!

Angelina Jolie... Perfect As Tomb Raider !

Movie & TV Comics

Comic books starting at 99 cents!

Angelina Jolie...

Perfect as  Lara Croft,

Tomb Raider  in the Movies....

The Movie Is Based on a Videogame.....

... but there is also a series of Comic Books from Image Comics, and a few one-shots specials.

Angelina was born in 1975, and was cast in a few movies before her Tomb Raider breakout film in 2001 !

She portrayed Lara Croft, who is a member of a rich British  aristocratic family. She enjoys collecting ancient artifacts from ruins of temples, tombs, cities, and other places worldwide, and goes through death-defying dangers to obtain them. She is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, weapons training, and foreign languages  and does them all in tight outfits as per the video game.

Angelina's looks definitely helped fill the tight outfits role, and being the daughter of actor Jon Voight gave her a good background in acting.

The movie made Angelina an international movie star, thus during the summer of 2003 the sequel, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, was released.  After seeing her at the SDCC movies program I acquired more respect for her as she came across very well to her audience of over 6,000 in speaking and answering questions from her fans.

Angelina later starred in 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow', with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow which I really enjoyed also !

For those interested in action / adventure comic books similar to Tomb Raider, we have several listed in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store.

Femme Fatales!

We just sold another one of these magazines.... which reminded me that I haven't blogged about this long running magazine series before!

Femme Fatales is a magazine that celebrates the alluring women of film, television and pop culture!  It prints in depth articles with more sexy photos per page than any magazine of its kind on the market today.
The magazine is one that collectors enjoy for the theme issues. Other individuals buy these for special articles of their favorite actresses, like the Xena issue shown to the left.

Femme Fatales magazine has been celebrating the alluring women of film and television for well over a decade now and is published / collected by volume & number.
Since it was first introduced as a companion magazine to CFQ (Cinefantastique) Magazine, Femme Fatales has explored the “Scream Queens” from Linnea Quigley to Brinke Stevens, as well as the “classic fatales” of the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies, from Raquel Welch, Diana Rigg, Marilyn Monroe and Ingrid Pitt to Caroline Munro and Sybil Danning!
Since then the magazine has branched out to include modern fatales like Traci Lords, Jennifer Garner, Rebecca Romijn, Scarlett Johansson, and a whole lot more!!
Just click on the Xena cover to the top left to see what issues we still have in stock!

Book Review: THUNDER AGENTS

BOOK REVIEW:

T.H.U.N.D.E.R.  Agents  !

This is my book review on Volume Four of the T.H.U.N.D.E.R.  Agents Archives from  DC Comics.

From DC Comics???

Weren't the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents from Tower Comics from 1967 - 1969?  Well, that would be correct, except that the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents  have had several reincarnations since the mid 1960's, as the copyrights have been resold.

I want to thank DC Comics for publishing this series, as I was never able to read all of the Tower Comics works.

Back in the 'good old days', before LCBS (Local Comic Book Stores), distribution of comics books were very spotty... and newstands or convenience stores did not always receive all the comics published by publishers, or didn't even bother to display them when received! Quite often stacks of them were returned to the distributors for credit without even having the wrapping bands cut!

One thing I must point out... I did enjoy the few Tower Comics that I found during the 1960's, as I especially loved the following creators's works:  Wally Wood, Paul Reinman, Gil Kane, Chic Stone, Ogden Whitney, Dan Adkins, George Tuska, and others that were part of the Tower Comics creative staff.

I had previously enjoyed several of the above creators work at both Marvel Comics and  ACG Comics.  Wally Wood was the creative genius behind this Tower Comics concept and I looked forward to reading this Archives series!

However, after reading this book, and even with the nostalgia that an old fart like me has for the series, these stories just don't hold up to what I remember them as. The stories are very simplistic, very short in length, and dare I say it... juvenile.  Not like what I remember at all !! It was daresay.... a bit disappointing to me upon reading them!

We do not have this book for sale, am posting that I have just read it and thought I would make known my feelings on this reprint series as I usually am overly nostalgic for comics from the Silver Age of Comics!

For those interested in reading superhero comic books, we have several thosuands listed in our eBay Featured Store and eBay Pro Store

Definitely for MAD Magazine Completists!

The title of the book may throw you off a bit... as it has art and and a lot of articles from MAD Magazine!! It is a 50th Anniversary Tribute from sucessfull writer Mark Evanier!

I enjoy Mark Evanier's programs at the San Diego Comic Con International,(SDCC), as he goes in depth when interviewing the guest speaker(s) he has on his panels.

This book is no different!

It goes back to 1952 when MAD was a comic book, and gives in depth articles on the original MAD artists and brings you up to date circa 2002 with the latest artists.

Definitely a must reading, and for your MAD library of books if you have one started !!
