Our Take - Next Great American Band 11-02-07
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: TV Shows

Friday Nights Are For
'The Next Great American Band'
TV Show on the Fox Network!

As posted previously, we were thinking that there wasn't anything on TV for us on Friday Nights this season, until we took a chance on the Premiere Episode of this new TV Show...

The Premiere Show took the 60 top bands from video entries and the three judges sifted them into the Final 12 Bands outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

I figured it would be nothing but Rap, Heavy Metal, and other genres of music that I don't normally listen to....

I was pleasantly surprised to see retro, rock n roll, girl group, swing, rock, and other genres represented in the Final 12 Bands.

This has both Tina's and my interest now! And it will be a short enough TV Season for this show to keep up with blogging about the performances!
For those of you that missed the 11-02-07 show... Each Band had to perform an original song of their own, and then do a cover of a song by Sir Elton John & Bernie Taupin.

This blog post is similar to our format on 'Our Take' Of American Idol Performance Shows that we do when AI is in season.

The following is 'Our Take' on the Night's Performances in Numerical Grading and with an Average Score.  We took the scores for the original song and the cover song and produced an average score that is shown below.  Tina and I then voted via phone for our top two bands (colored in blue font) at the end of the two hour show:
Our Take Of The 11-02-07 Episode

For those that missed our previous blog post on this TV Show:   HERE IS THE LINK!

Due to space limitations because of ten bands performing, the following are just a few notes from last nite:

I enjoyed the way the Top 10 Bands were presented out of the Top 12 Bands. Each band was called up one by one to perform,
leaving three bands at the last.
Only one of the last three was called to perform.... leaving the two bands that didn't make the cut not performing for the night.
Those two bands were:
The Hatch:  Which I had given a 5.0 (out of possible 10.0) and Tina had given a 6.0
and  The Likes of You:  Which I had given a 6.25 and Tina had given a 7.5
Additional Notes:  I didn't like the way Bands #8 (the Muggs) and #9 (Rocket) dissed the judges opinions.  Lack of maturity on their parts I thought.
Tina thought Band  #1 (Six-Wire) were trying to be an Eagles knockoff tonight... however their original song was boring and their Elton John cover was a stupid choice!  Also Band #8 (Muggs) showed that they had no versatility.
For those that are wondering, Tina and I are evaluating by the singing/instrumentals of both songs, their looks, and the
general perfromance, NOT  who are 'favorites' are at this point.  Similar to 'Our Take on American Idol', where we don't come down to 'favorites' until the end.
Next week:  The TWO Bands with the lowest vote counts won't play next week.... So No 'Results Show' like American Idol. Next week the cover song is to be one of Billy Joel's...

Glad something is finally on Friday Nights for us! What's your thoughts on this show? Just post your comments below!

For those that are wondering what the 'tie-in' is for us... we have Rock Comic Books and Magazines for sale in our eBay Featured Store!

Gene Autry

The Centennial Exhibition 1907 - 2007

I have blogged previously about the special exhibition at the Autry National Center that is being shown
between now and January 13, 2008.

For those visiting the Los Angeles metro area during that time this would be one of the best attractions in that area for Western fans.

The Centennial Exhibition on Gene Autry will be running thru that date, with certain days closed for the holidays of course.

Tina, my uncle and I just saw this exhibition yesterday for the first time, and recommend the Autry National Center for Old West fans because of this special exhibition only.

You can learn more about the hours and the admission prices at the web site autrynationalcenter.org.

Why this special exhibition only?

Because it is one of the few times that the 'myth' of the Old West is shown at the museum along with the 'reality'!

Because even though the Center is name after Gene Autry who founded it along with his wife Jackie, there usually is just one showcase about Gene Autry in the whole two floors of the Museum!

Personally, my interest in the museum is in the 'myth' of the Old West. So I was very pleased this trip!

Usually there is just a small exhibit room that has some of the Movies and TV Show posters and costumes, etc from the past.

As you can tell by the comics we have in the eBay Featured Store, I am a Wild Wild West TV Westerns and Western Comics Fan.

I have blogged about Gene, Gabby Hayes, Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger and so many more TV and Movie Cowboys here in previous blog posts.

Man-Wolf?

Could Be. Why? Because those of you that saw the Spider-Man Movie Trilogy have already seen his alter-ego...

He is J. Jonah Jameson's astronaut son who after a space voyage, was affected and later becomes the Man-Wolf in the Comics!

Will he become one in the movies? Only Time and the Director(s) will tell...but Man-Wolf, and the Lizard (Dr Connors in the films) are being speculated upon right now!

In the meantime you can read up on his adventures in the comic books we have listed in our eBay Featured Store!

We Are So Lost....

Without The 'Lost' TV Show To Watch!

It would appear that a lot of people also are missing 'Lost' and looking forward to its' January 2008 Return, because our prior blog post is getting 'hit' several times a day each week!

Here is the repost from our May 25th blog post on the Season Finale:

-------------

05-23-07

2 Hour Season Finale

Opening Shot - Bearded Jack on Oceanic Flight that is landing in 20 minutes. Cut to Jack on a bridge, makes a cell phone call, gets out of vehichle, standing on a bridge, possibly to jump and we hear another vehichle behind him slamming into somtething. Tina wonders why Jack is bearded in this scene(?).

Cut to the Island's beach where everyone is packing and leaving except for the three staying behind to trap the others that are coming!

Those three are Sayid, Bernard and Jin. They are to shoot the dynamite that is hidden in the tents to kill the others that are expected to show up soon.

Cut to the 'Looking Glass', the underwater tank outpost, where Charlie has been captured. Two of the others, Greta and Bonnie hurt him as they interogate him.

The 'Others' group attacking the beach camp come in. Three tents are marked for them to kidnap the pregnant women. A gun battle ensues. Only two of the dynamite traps are set off, the third fails to explode.  Tom of the Others reports in to Ben. Seven of the Others were killed during the gunbattle. Bernard under duress tells Tom where the Lost group had gone. Tina thought this would be highly unlikely as Bernard's wife was with that group!

Cut to Ben's group - Ben plans to go to radio tower. Richard to take remainder of Others to the temple.

Lost Group - Kate argues with Sawyer about going back for Sayid's group.

Desmond wakes up on boat just before Michail shoots at him. He dives into water and reaches Charlie being held captive.

Michail scuba dives to Looking Glass, finds out that the two Others are there, (Greta & Bonnie), and that Ben has lied to him and the Others.

Locke wakes up in pit where Dharma group were thrown in to finish dying. Walt appears to him at top of pit.

Ben and Alex intercept Jack's group an hour away from the radio tower. Ben tells Jack that the woman that parachuted onto island is a bad person.

(Continued top of next column)

Lost Is Coming Back Soon!
(Continued from bottom of first column)

If Jack uses the phone she brought, her people will come and kill all the Others and Jack's Lost Group. Ben orders Tom to kill Jin, Bernard and Sayid if he doesn't call back in one minute.  Jack says no, we hear shots over the walkie talkie Ben is holding. Jack proceeds to beat Ben up.

Michail shoots Greta and Bonnie, Desmond spear guns Michail... Bonnie tells Charlie the code is the Beach Boys 'Good Vibrations' song.

Ben tells Alex the Frenchwoman is her mother.

Hurley attacks the camp with the old VW van, knocking down one Other, while Sayid kills the second Other with his feet. Tom is left alone. Tome gives up, but Sawyer shoots him for taking Walt off the raft like he had promised earlier.

Charlie puts in code, then received incoming transmission from Penny. She says she doesn't know a Naomi. Charlie figures out what that means, just as Michail hurls a grenade from outside the 'Looking Glass'. With water pouring in, Charlie writes on his hand, 'Not Penny's Boat' which Desmond sees thru the glass separating him and Charlie.  Charlie makes the sign of the cross and drowns.

Now the jamming signal is off, but Naomi still can't use phone. French Woman's broadcast message is interferring.

Ben is tied to tree outside of radio tower. Naomi tries to use the phone. Ben says Naomi making that call is the beginning of the end!

Locke shows up and throws his knife into Naomi's back.
Jack answers the incoming call, figuring Locke won't kill him. Jack is thinking that answering call will lead to his group being rescued.
Flashback again to bearded Jack... except it's NOT a flashback... It's in the future!!!  Jack was calling Kate on his cell phone. Kat and Jack have survived... Oceanic has given them Gold Passes to fly anywhere Oceans has flights.
Tina called it, (that the person Jack was calling was Kate). But who was in the coffin at the funeral home, why is Jack's dad considered to be alive at hospital that Jack works at...
THIS WAS A COOL ENDING!  Best season finale CLIFFHANGER this season on TV !
