Green Lantern Comic Book Movie Update!

This update:

Warner Brothers Studios has contracted with Greg Berlanti to co-write and direct the live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern character.

Berlanti is currently the writer and executive producer of ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money TV Show.

Berlanti's only known movie directing credit was for the 2000 theatrical movie 'Broken Hearts Club'.

Since that time, he has worked on TV productions, which have included writing and executive-producing credits on Dawson’s Creek, Everwood, and Brothers & Sisters.

Greg will be co-writing the script for The Green Lantern movie with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Both Marc and Michael have written for various comic books including Superman, Batman, Amazing Spiderman, Wolverine and Blade comics.

No comment from me at this time as I did not watch his previous work, except for Bros & Sisters which took forever for Tina and I to really get into....

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and feel free to comment below !

'Our Take' Next Great American Band 11-16-07 Episode
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: TV Shows

TV and Movie Comics Listed Here!  Rock Comics Listed Here!

'Our Take' On

'The Next Great American Band'
TV Show on the Fox Network!
The 11-16-07 Episode

For those of you that missed this 11-16-07 show... The episode stayed with the new 1 hour format.

Each band called to perform did a cover of a song by the 'Leiber & Stoller' song writing team. That's Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller !

There were no original songs by the bands tonight as was the case in most of the earlier shows.

This blog post is similar to our format on 'Our Take' Of American Idol Performance Shows that we do when AI is in season.

The following is 'Our Take' on the Night's Performances in Numerical Grading.  You can see by the 'spread' that there is a difference of opinion between us on several of  the performances:

Our Numerical Grading Of
The 11-16-07 Episode

5Denver & Mile High Orchestra/ Ruby Baby 8.02.06.0

7Tres Bien/ Some Other Guy7.50.58.0

For those that missed our previous blog post on this TV Show:   HERE IS THE LINK For The 11-09-07 Episode!

Due to space limitations because of seven bands performing, the following are just a few notes from this nite:

When it got down to which of the final two bands would play for the night.... Tina thought for sure that 'Franklin Bridge' would play instead of 'Tres Bien'. Even 'Tres Bien' thought that in the 'Green Room'!

Instead it was 'Franklin Bridge' that wouldn't play and be out of the contest... Tina was dismayed but voiced that their type of audience probably wouldn't be watching this show on a Friday night and vote within the two hour voting period...

Sheila E who had predicted that 'Franklin Bridge' would make it to the end of the show was shocked that they were out.

Personally, I like the retro style of 'Tres Bien' better between the two of these bands...

Next week:  The Band with the lowest vote count won't play next week.... So No 'Results Show' like American Idol.

Next week the performances are covers on Mick Jagger & Keith Richards Songs!

Glad something is finally on Friday Nights for us! What's your thoughts on this show? Just post your comments below!

Next Great American Band TV Show On Tonight...

So To Refresh Your Memory....
This Was 'Our Take' On
'The Next Great American Band'
TV Show on the Fox Network!
The 11-09-07 Episode

For those of you that missed the 11-09-07 show... The episode went from a 2 hour show to just 1 hour.

Thus each band called to perform did a cover of a song by Billy Joel. There were no original songs by the bands tonight as per previous performances.

This blog post is similar to our format on 'Our Take' Of American Idol Performance Shows that we do when AI is in season.

The following is 'Our Take' on the Night's Performances in Numerical Grading. Tina and I have our top two bands colored in blue font:

For those that missed our previous blog post on this TV Show:   HERE IS THE LINK For The 11-02-07 Episode!

Due to space limitations because of eight bands performing, the following are just a few notes from this nite:

I still enjoyed the way the Top 8 Bands were presented out of the Top 10 Bands. Each band was called up one by one to perform, leaving three bands at the last.

Only one of the last three was called to perform.... leaving the two bands that didn't make the cut not performing for the night.

The three remaining bands were: Rocket, the Muggs and Light of Doom.

The two bands not called on to perform were:

The Muggs:  Which I had given a 5.0 (out of possible 10.0) and Tina had given a 4.5 so no surprise there...

and  Rocket: Which we were totally surprised us, as Rocket was both our #1 choices for performances last week!  I had given them a 9.25 and Tina had given a 8.0.

However, as Dominic Bowden, (the host of the show), said... both of the losing bands,  Bands #8 (the Muggs) and #9 (Rocket) had dissed the judges opinions at the end of the judges opinions.  Lack of maturity on their parts I thought.  However Tina pointed out last night,  since when did Rock n' Roll ever respect authority to begin with ?!

Funny thing is, that The Muggs once again dissed the judges with a thumbs down of their own after they weren't called up to perform... so it was fitting they didn't move on to the next round.

However Tina is totally dismayed that Light of Doom is going on to the next round... as she totally disliked their choice of song, performance, and in general everything about them!

For those that are wondering, Tina and I are evaluating by the singing/instrumentals of both songs, their looks, and the
general perfromance, NOT  who are 'favorites' are at this point.  Similar to 'Our Take on American Idol', where we don't come down to 'favorites' until the end.

Next week:  The TWO Bands with the lowest vote counts won't play next week.... So No 'Results Show' like American Idol. Next week the performances are about.....??? Didn't catch that part, so if you heard or know, just post below...

Glad something is finally on Friday Nights for us! What's your thoughts on this show? Just post your comments below!

Beowulf

Today, November 16th is the release date of the adult fantasy film 'Beowulf' that also stars Angelina Jolie in virtual CGI form.

For those that enjoyed the movie, we Have Beowulf Promo Comics For Sale Starting @ $0.99 Plus Shipping!

For those curious about the movie... The Beowulf trailer is out and screening on different TV shows. If you missed it there are now 2 trailers and a TV spot. The links are at:

Beowulf Movie Trailer

Here Are Tina's Thoughts on the movie preview program she attended at the San Diego Comic Con on the movie:

Neil Gaiman and director Roger Avery gave Comic Con fans a first look at a 2-D trailer for the upcoming movie 'Beowulf'.

The digitally enhanced live action is their attempt to 'tell the oldest story in the English language', said Gaiman, 'with the technology we have today'.

To me it was a little creepy and alienating, but maybe Angelina Jolie in 2-D just creeps me out...

Jolie's part of what Gaiman calls his 'bull---- casting'. Gaiman continues with 'You know the game we all play, who would you cast for...??'

Holed up in Mexico writing the screenplay and drinking too much beer Gaiman and Avery speculated on their dream cast; Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich and Crispen Glover.  They were amazed when everyone said yes!

Well, in November we'll see if the the movie is a dream or a nightmare...

Meanwhile, you can formulate your own thoughts on the movie by checking out the movie adaptation in comic book format.  Just click on the SDCC Comic Con comic book Exclusive at the top left corner for a copy!

Due To The WGA Strike!

Sad news for NBC’s 'Bionic Woman' TV Show fans...

The show has been forced to shut down production because of the writer’s strike.

The show, which is shot in Vancouver, Canada, closed filming on November 9th, over a month before its' scheduled holiday hiatus.

For Tina and myself, this was mixed news.

Tina hasn't been thrilled with the show since it previewed at the SDCC at the end of July 2007. See our previous blog post for her review on the 'Pilot' episode, which was changed for actual airing after we saw it!

As for myself, I have been watching it each week, hoping it would get better. Tina has hung in there with me on this show but after this week's episode on 11-14-07 with the death of Antonio Pope, (played by Isaiah Washington), I should have had more feeling about the death of this key player.

Unfortunately I did not... and am beginning to realize that this show is not one that I'll be watching if and when the Strike is over in time to finish out the season.

This show did not place on Tina's or my Top 20 TV Show list in an earlier blog post, and it is time that we (or I) will stop blogging about it...

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and feel free to comment below !
