Beowulf Movie Trailer

Here Are Tina's Thoughts on the movie preview program she attended at the July 2007 San Diego Comic Con on the movie:

Neil Gaiman and director Roger Avery gave Comic Con fans a first look at a 2-D trailer for the upcoming movie 'Beowulf'.

The digitally enhanced live action is their attempt to 'tell the oldest story in the English language', said Gaiman, 'with the technology we have today'.

To me it was a little creepy and alienating, but maybe Angelina Jolie in 2-D just creeps me out...

Jolie's part of what Gaiman calls his 'bull---- casting'. Gaiman continues with 'You know the game we all play, who would you cast for...??'

Holed up in Mexico writing the screenplay and drinking too much beer Gaiman and Avery speculated on their dream cast; Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich and Crispen Glover.  They were amazed when everyone said yes!

Well, in November we'll see if the the movie is a dream or a nightmare...

Today you can have your own keepsake of the movie by checking out the movie adaptation in comic book format.  Just click on the SDCC Comic Con comic book Exclusive at the middle left column for a copy!

One of best things about the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade for me back when I was growing up were the giant balloon figures!  As befits a blog about comics and other pop culture topics, the above balloon figure is of Spider-Man in a previous parade!

For all of our comic book, magazines, and other pop culture listings, just click on the photo above!

Up, Up and Away In  My Macy's Day Balloon!

I do remember the Macy's Parades when I was younger, and enjoyed watching them on TV because we lived on the West Coast!

Why? Because of all of the giant-sized balloons of some of my favorite cartoon and comic book characters!

In the last several years I have kind of stopped watching the Parade as it just seemed to me to be touting the latest TV Show or Musical or Movie or the 'whatever' that the TV Network that was broadcasting the parade was promoting...

The stopping in front of the Store and doing a dance routine or act just isn't my kind of a parade to watch on the small screen.

When Tina and I married a half dozen years ago, she and I would watch the parade each year on TV as she came from the East Coast and had watched it for more years than I did...

However we just don't watch it with the same fervor that we used to have!

Kind of like the Rose Parade... for me the only Station that shows it right is KTLA Channel 5 in LA, where they don't stop for commericals or tout the latest stars from this season's shows!

'Our Take'

 On The 11-19-07 Episode

Spoiler Warning: Don't Read Below If YOU Don't Want To know What Happened!

Chuck started off the episode with saying that 'the emotional rollercoaster is over' for him with Sarah.

So Sarah does a scene for the 'public' where she cries as Chuck 'dumps' her...

Chuck then dates Lou, the sandwich store owner.

However he see an invitation card on her store wall and 'flashes' on it.

Turns out Lou's ex-boyfriend is involved with international espionage, or at least his father is!

This episode get a little too far fetched... and appears to be a little contrived.

Additionally, in an earlier blog I mentioned how this could be a good family program.

Well the path the show has taken is taking it away from the PG rating I would have given it in the earlier episodes.

Now all that is talked about this episode is sex, or lack of it... and even though it doesn't show any as it does come on at 8 PM, I am withdrawing my earlier recommendation as a family show.

I still like the show, and Tina enjoys watching it also, just the show is 'skewing' to an older audience now.

Also, the 'Love Triangle' appears to be temporarily shelved between Sarah/Chuck/Lou, but a new one is started at the end of this episode!

Why?  And with who? Well... Tina and I guessed it, as the 'bomb' turned out not be to be a bomb but instead was a ......

Well, you'll have to view this episode to find out the new 'triangle'!

Used To Look Forward To Viewing The  Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Now, I'm not that old... wasn't even born during the Parade that the Superman Balloon seen at top left was in!

But I do remember the Macy's Parades when I was younger, and enjoyed them.

Kind of stopped watching them when the Parade seemed to just be touting the latest TV Show or Musical or Movie or whatever that the TV Network that was broadcasting the parade was promoting...

Time For Mr. Terrific !

Not all Superheroes received their own comic book throughout the years!

CBS's Mr. Terrific was one of those shows that didn't even get a one-shot publication from Dell Comics like most of favorite TV Shows would!

The actor, Stephen Strimpell, played a mild-mannered gas station attendant named Stanley Beamish in the TV  Show.

However, unknown to all the world, Mr. Beemish was able to become the superhero 'Mr. Terrific' with the help of secret power pills!

To be a little more credible, the pills were developed by the (fictional) government agency, the 'Bureau of Secret Projects'.

Of course you can't have an invincible super hero, so there had to be a weakness... so in this case the pill’s effects lasted for only an hour!

Naturally Mr Terrific would lose his strength at the worst possible times during the show!

Dick Gautier played Stanley’s best friend Hal Walters.

Dick is shown standing at the left in the top left photo. You might better know him as  'Hymie the Robot' on the 'Get Smart' TV Show that was playing at the same time!
