Guide to Business Gift-Giving

by Tina LoSasso

Anyone braving the shopping malls during the holiday season knows that finding the perfect gift for family or friends is not easy.

Business gift-giving can be even more challenging. Choosing the right business gift requires more time and thoughtfulness. How do you go about selecting exactly the right gift for that important client?  Here is another of time-honored rules of thumb from the new sales advice book, Top Dog Sales Secrets.

• Beware of booze.

Alcoholic beverages are usually risky business.

The one exception is when you know someone loves a certain brand of Scotch, a particular bottle of wine, or a regional microbrew.

Never send a bottle of champagne to that key account in Salt Lake City or for that matter, frozen steaks to a customer who is vegetarian.

Don’t laugh—it happens!

The above is from Tina's new book that is titled: 'Top Dog Sales Secrets' and we now have a few more copies listed for sale in our eBay Featured Store!

We've made it easy for you eBayers to buy this newly published book. Just click on the book cover at the top left to buy a copy with the 'Buy It Now' feature!

OMAC

OMAC Was Jack Kirby's mid 1970's vision of the Future in a comic book series.

One of the great things about attending comic book conventions, is that we are able to pick up complete sets of comic book series from other dealers that we can buy, read and enjoy,  then list in our eBay store for others to obtain at reasonable prices.

The OMAC (One Man Army Corps) series by Jack Kirby is one that we have never read in its' complete run.  With having the complete run now to read at one sitting, it is very interesting on how the 'King of Comics' viewed the Future in this series.

It is one of the strangest comic book series that I have ever read, with views on aging, peace keeping, stealing the earth's water and other topics that are still talked about today.... the best thing for me was the usual Jack Kirby machinery, of which he was master of drawing !!

I personally rank Jack's Fantastic Four series, (with Stan Lee), as my favorite comic book run of all time, and it is so strange to see what Jack produced on his own after leaving Stan at Marvel.  I like several of the Kamandi, Silver Star, and Eternals issues, but this OMAC series is so weird that I don't know what to make of it after reading it all !

If you have not read this series, or missed a few issues, we have them listed in our eBay store and you can find them by clicking the photo of Jack at the top left corner!

Xena of Amphipolis was a fictional character in the now ended television series Xena: Warrior Princess and also in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.  She was played by the New Zealand actress Lucy Lawless, pictured to the top left.

Xena first appeared on the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys television series, (in the episode The Warrior Princess airing in March 1995), as a seductive but treacherous warlord.

Two more episodes during the May 1995 TV sweeps presented her evolution from a villainess to a friend and ally of Hercules. Viewer interest in her was so high that shortly afterwards she became the main character of her own spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess,  and the two series quite often played back to back.

Ironically though, her character was originally obsessed with defeating Hercules and thus obtaining his title as the greatest living warrior, she never did defeat "Zeus' Favorite Son". As a matter of fact, Hercules was the one credited with pointing her down the path of redemption when he beat her in combat and showed her that selfishness and greed were not the way to live.

In her own TV series, Xena set out to redeem her murderous past by fighting against tyranny and evil and protecting the innocent and weak.  I personally caught the show after it had started and began watching the rerun episodes to catch up. A lot of her past would remain obscure, but flashbacks would open up new chapters in her past as she revisited the people or areas again.

For those interested in Xena comic books from Topps in 1997-1998 or Dark Horse 1999, we have several listed in our eBay Featured Store. Xena was published as mini-series by Topps, while Dark Horse published one unlimited series.

Konga had a few series of comic book series from Charlton Comics.

The first series ran for 23 issues from circa 1961 to November 1965.

The was also a 'one-shot' Return of Konga in 1962.

There were 2 issues of Konga's Revenge in 1963-1964.

There was another 'one-shot' of Konga's Revenge in 1968.

Konga was printed due to Charlton's belief that artist Steve Ditko could do the same magic touch to the 1961 Konga Movie from American International that he did to the Gorgo film  earlier !

In the Konga film it is a scientist that has managed to grow plants to a huge size that decides to experiment on a chimpanzee. The poor chimp is turned into a giant killer monster!   As shown on the cover in issue #1 to the top left, he is as big as King Kong!

The comic book series lasted a lot longer than the movie that generated it, although Steve Ditko, who had by then co-created the Amazing Spider-Man, was not the artist for all the issues.

Konga was created due to Steve Ditko having a good run on Gorgo, which was based in 1961 from the Gorgo movie that was very similar to another monster predecessor, Godzilla !!   Comic books have always seemed to be derivative, just like sucessful TV shows will spawn many imitiators...

For those interested in Konga Comics, we have a few unslabbed  comics listed in our eBay Featured Store.

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post!

Michael
