Friday Nights Are For
'The Next Great American Band'
TV Show on the Fox Network!

As posted previously, we were thinking that there wasn't anything on TV for us on Friday Nights this season, until we took a chance on the Premiere Episode of this new TV Show...

The Premiere Show took the 60 top bands from video entries and the three judges sifted them into the Final 12 Bands outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

I figured it would be nothing but Rap, Heavy Metal, and other genres of music that I don't normally listen to....

I was pleasantly surprised to see retro, rock n roll, girl group, swing, rock, and other genres represented in the Final 12 Bands.

This has both Tina's and my interest now! And it will be a short enough TV Season for this show to keep up with blogging about the performances!
For those of you that missed the 11-02-07 show... Each Band had to perform an original song of their own, and then do a cover of a song by Sir Elton John & Bernie Taupin.

This blog post is similar to our format on 'Our Take' Of American Idol Performance Shows that we do when AI is in season.

The following is 'Our Take' on the Night's Performances in Numerical Grading and with an Average Score.  We took the scores for the original song and the cover song and produced an average score that is shown below.  Tina and I then voted via phone for our top two bands (colored in blue font) at the end of the two hour show:

Due to space limitations because of ten bands performing, the following are just a few notes from last nite:

I enjoyed the way the Top 10 Bands were presented out of the Top 12 Bands. Each band was called up one by one to perform,
leaving three bands at the last.
Only one of the last three was called to perform.... leaving the two bands that didn't make the cut not performing for the night.
Those two bands were:
The Hatch:  Which I had given a 5.0 (out of possible 10.0) and Tina had given a 6.0
and  The Likes of You:  Which I had given a 6.25 and Tina had given a 7.5
Additional Notes:  I didn't like the way Bands #8 (the Muggs) and #9 (Rocket) dissed the judges opinions.  Lack of maturity on their parts I thought.
Tina thought Band  #1 (Six-Wire) were trying to be an Eagles knockoff tonight... however their original song was boring and their Elton John cover was a stupid choice!  Also Band #8 (Muggs) showed that they had no versatility.
For those that are wondering, Tina and I are evaluating by the singing/instrumentals of both songs, their looks, and the
general perfromance, NOT  who are 'favorites' are at this point.  Similar to 'Our Take on American Idol', where we don't come down to 'favorites' until the end.
Next week:  The TWO Bands with the lowest vote counts won't play next week.... So No 'Results Show' like American Idol. Next week the cover song is to be one of Billy Joel's...

Glad something is finally on Friday Nights for us! What's your thoughts on this show? Just post your comments below!
