2,500 year-old military treatise, "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, is required reading for U.S. Marines and in most American business schools.

The legend goes that Sun Tzu was born into minor nobility and given a good education, after which he wrote a military treatise in order to get noticed and hired by royalty. (Vinnie)  Hello everyone! Today I am reviewing the Anime DVD, "Hammerboy". It was produced in Korea by Tae Kun An. It's a great tale and is actually family friendly.

    

 

  

    
All this time Mangchi has been training his Power of the Echo, in order to have
a chance to fight the leader, as he also shares this power. They fight and fight, and eventually the evil forces lose, like always, and the kingdom has been restored.

When checking out web pages for this blog to link to link to I found the following:

Hammer Boy (Hammerboy) on Facebook

Which was a reprint from Wikipedia.  On that page I found that there was an additional description of what was in the original film, although neither Vinnie, Tina, nor I found on the DVD version:

"...the movie has scenes where the Hammerboy's penis appears. Some people believe that makes the Korean anime have some "spectre" of Shotacon".

So that is probably why the film was for PG-13 on some web pages for sale. Again, we didn't see this on the American version shown at the top right of this blog post. Just the one word that we looked at each other when it was uttered, as nowhere else in the film had that language been used!

So, other than those two possible items, the film was one that all three of us enjoyed watching.  And to think that it was based on a Korean graphic novel (manhwa)!

And yes I did pick this DVD up because of the 'Hammerboy' title.  My 'nickname' ever since high school has been 'Hammerman' or 'The Hammerman', so my initial interest was due to the name!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3503

When the most recent package from Smarter Comics came in with graphic novels for possible review... I decided to grab it first, as it's been Tina who has been reading these first and wanting to review blog them, (as seen here).

Which has been okay with me, as she has been promoting business authors for some time now, with their book launches.  So it was only natural for her to want to see those same business books that she has either read or promoted transformed into sequentially illustrated books.

However, this sequentially illustrated book, (aka graphic novel format), is one that I had to read.  That's because I've read the original book in text format, and a hard time reading  & digesting it.

Possibly because it is such an 'old' book.  Written by Napoleon Hill back in 1937, this is a true 'classic'.  Yet it is written in such a style that it takes a while to 'digest' it properly to be able to utilize the information that is presented in each chapter.

For those of you that don't know what the book is about... Here is what the publisher says of this 2nd Edition:

So what's 'My Take' on this 2nd Edition?

I found this to be so much easier to read AND 'digest'.  Truly written for those that want to take the time to read, comprehend, and implement what is presented in each chapter as each chapter is presented.

'Think & Grow Rich' was one of the first books I read during my introduction to motivational speakers back in the day.  I found it to be a little 'dated' at the time, especially when the author writes about his experiences with Andrew Carneige who died back in 1919.  It was just a pretty 'dry' book, and reminded me of reading a textbook for college. 

This 2nd Edition by Smarter Comics isn't 'dry' at all. Which is why I'm giving it a NEAR MINT (NM) 9.4 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale. If you have to read this book for a class or a study group, I would suggest also reading this sequentially illustrated book to help you comprehend what is being presented visually. I'd suggest the same if you are reading the book for your own personal motivational purposes!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3502:

As mentioned on my Facebook Fan Page, 'Michael D Hamersky On Comics', it's taken a little while for our home office to recover from the Thursday September 8th Blackout that occured in San Diego County & other parts of Southern California, (plus parts of Arizona & New Mexico!).

So I've been mainly offline the last few days, with no blog posts.  However, today I've finally got the wi-fi system back up and running, and did not want to miss mentioning this day of rememberance in the comics.

No, not the 'comic books', but the 'comic strips'.

I mentioned this then upcoming observance back last Sunday at my Facebook Fan Page.   It is the 'Cartoonists Remember 9 11' day in the Sunday newpapers, and also online, as I don't believe any newspaper will be carrying all of the comic strips that are participating in this observance.

I personally chose to feature the 'Beetle Bailey' strip here today, because that is the one that... 'got' me the most.

You can see the rest of the 93 comic strips in total at the special web site, 'Cartoonists Remember 9 11' here.  You can also view it as a slideshow.

There are several standouts in the strips that are participating in this observance, from comics I've known for years, plus others I had never heard of before... 

My thanks to those comics creators taking the time to observe this day, today...

It may seem a little 'odd' to observe this day in the 'comics' or the 'funnies', because it isn't that kind of casual observance, but after you read the strips, you'll see that this was a good idea for remembering what happened ten years ago today...
