Update On The Golden Record Album We Were Asked About!
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book History

Golden Records

 With And Without Comics!

Back on April 28th we received the following email question:

Dear make_it_so_marketing,

I received a Golden Records "Marvel Age Comic Spectacular" "Journey into Mystery"
Thor album. The cover is only fair with one ripped edge and the album plays great but does have some fine scraches. I do not have the comic! Does this album have any value by itself? Thanks....

Well, my answer to this eBayer was:

Thanks for emailing us! I have seen both the album/record and the comic book selling individually by themselves at conventions. There are collectors that were not able to get the album when they purchased the comic book and vice versa.

So you have a probable market in reaching those collectors. Especially since the advent of CGC and PGX where they encapsulate the comics but don't do so with the records. The encapsulated comics go for about $250 in 9.4 NM grade.

Whereas if you are selling the record/cover alone, you probably should put a reserve on the auction to get what you need out of it!

Now for the update on this record and album cover: It sold for $26.00 + shipping. It was Item number: 300222126772 and had 13 bids on it! Congrats to the emailer / seller!

For those of you new to us, we have an ongoing pop culture - comics convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

He Was 'The Lost Beach Boy' !

He Was

 'The Lost Beach Boy' !

As blogged about before, Tina and I have posted some 'reviews' in the eBay Reviews and Guides Section. The following is one that I just posted today and is being published here also:

While most of the readers of our blog posts and reviews realize that I am into comics and related books and movies, I hardly mention that I grew up in SoCal where The Beach Boys were Kings of the early surf music and hot rod tunes.

This book that features the 'missing link', David Marks, is one heck of a read, and hard to put down!

David made the mistake at a very young age to tell the Wilson boys' father Murry, that he wanted to quit the Beach Boys band at age 15!  This after the Beach Boys had already cut 4 albums and numerous singles!  But at that age sometimes financial thoughts just don't outweigh the actual living on the road touring and coming back in for album sessions hassle.

Additionally, the Wilson brothers later through their dad Murry out from being their manager, so David only left in a different way...

Sad to say David went on with his life trying to recapture the glory days of being a Beach Boy without actually being one. His life on drugs and drink are fully written out in this book and the black and white photos of the early years at 13 being a Beach Boy contrast with his later years...

Kind of like looking at the Beatles early photos, then their long hair and going into mysticism and drugs etc.

This was a really good read, some critics have called it self serving on David's part, but this book is for a niche market. If the early years of the Beach Boys are something you'd like to read about, and then find out what happened to David when Al Jardine came back to the group and took David's place.... then this book is for you!

Photoshop Pro Photography Handbook
Mood:  a-ok

Photoshop  Pro Photography Handbook!

As blogged about before, Tina and I have posted some 'reviews' in the eBay Reviews and Guides Section. The following is one that I just posted today and is being published here also:

The past few weeks I have seen several bloggers and discussion board poster asking for help on picture editing.

Having taken a Photoshop Course and upgrading my own Photoshop  to a higher version,
I stopped and commented on their blogs or discussion threads. But those formats are limited in how many text characters you can or even want to keypunch in...

So when I found this book at our local library, I had to pick it up to check out the comments and instructions on the lastest Photoshop version.

This is a very detailed handbook on the Photoshop  program by Adobe. It is definitely for those who want the best presentation for their artwork or photos online.  It is really for those who want to make a living selling their creative masterpieces and have the time to go through each chapter and learn how to properly master a function of Photoshop

Some learn best via classes and some do best with a handbook. For the latter, this is one fine book to reference for a long while, (until Adobe comes out with another Photoshop version, LOL!)

Recommended for those that want to get the best representation of their art or photos shown online.  For those that just want to edit pics, you probably would be overspending to purchase an Adobe Photoshop  Program anyway so this book is not for you.... unless you purchased the 'student version' and want to get more out of your program at your own pace!

For those of you that just want to edit pics for blogs, there are a few free download programs. Also Microsoft's Office Picture Manager is an easy to use picture program that I use for non-website photos like blog posts.

Thirty-Five Years Ago This Upcoming Summer...!

Thirty-Five Years Ago

This Upcoming Summer....

August 16-19th 1973!

Well... time certainly does fly when you are having fun!

Yesterday I posted about my 10th Anniversary on the Web with my 1st web page!

Today I am getting ready for the next Comic Con which reminded me of the great fun I had 35 years ago at the 1973 SDCC Comic Con!

I can still remember setting up that dealer table I'm standing behind as shown in the top right photo!

It was at the Sheraton Hotel, Harbor Island, San Diego for the 4th SDCC Comic Con !

It was my 3rd Comic Con I had attended, and the second one that I had set up at with a 'dealer' table!

This is the earliest photo that I have of me setting up at a Comic Con  and am very pleased to have it published on several of our web sites' pages!

Today Tina and I don't set up at Comic Cons  to sell, but rather attend them to pick up additional inventory to sell online!

How the comics world has changed from 35 years ago!  Be sure to attend a Comic Con in your area to see what you are missing!

For those of you that are new to our blog, we have an ongoing comics and pop culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books - Comic Cons blog post and come back again!

Yes, that's Michael back in the Summer of 1973 at the SDCC Comic Con with almost shoulder length long hair and a skinny stomach! Oh and a few hundred comics on top of the dealer table still left to sell!  Funny how so many of those comic books in the photo are worth so much more today!

We Want To Thank The 144,000th Visitor To Our Blog!

We Want To Thank

The

 144,000th

Visitor...

To Our Pop Culture And Comics Blog!

I just finished having breakfast, and was busy getting ready to post our next blog when I saw that our small niche pop culture and comics blog reached the 144,000 th visitor!

(That would be 144,000 visitors, NOT page views. There have been over 264,000 page views of our 2,500+ archived blog posts per our stats counter. The eBay counter at the top left area says over 420,000 views, but that number is not verifiable.)

The visitor was from The Country of Turkey in the Istanbul area and viewed the "Saloon / Dance Hall Girls!" blog post that included western comics from December 12th, 2007!

We want to thank that blogger as well as ALL of the others who have come to view our blog posts since we started keeping stats on July 15, 2006! We actually started the Blog on June 7th 2006, when we came back home and blogged about viewing the X-Men III Film and deciding to list some X-Men comics!

Having bloggers like the 144,000th AND NOW YOU come in and view our blog posts always makes our day or evening!  Thanks again for visiting us!

For those of you new to us, we have an ongoing pop culture - comics convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

We appreciate your reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and please visit our blog again!

Above is the photo that was included with the blog post that was viewed by our 144,000th visitor! The photo was known world wide for a while when Annette Funicello posed as one of the Dance Hall Girls from the Golden Horseshoe Revue Saloon Girl at Disneyland. The photo was so popular that it soon graced the cover of her next record "Mr. Piano Man".
