Hasbro Reacquires Their Cartoons....
Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Comic Book Movies

Hasbro Reacquires Their Cartoons........

Hasbro, who are this nation's #2 toymaker, announced yesterday that they have reacquired the worldwide distribution rights to over 1,000 hours of animated programming!

Hasbro stated that under the terms of its' new agreement with Sunbow Productions, that they have regained 'ownership' of one thousand hours of cartoons.

Those cartoons feature G.I. Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony and the Littlest Pet Shop which are still well known, although the properties are a a few decades old.

With extrapolation of what's going on in the movie industry, you can see that Hasbro is figuring that with the tremendous success of the live action Transformers movie, that cartoon characters are 'Hot' and they should have more of a financial reward.

Similar to Marvel Comics' situation, where they basically gave away the rights just to have a successfull film, and then a track record, (X-Men, Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four), and now they are producing their own films, (Iron Man and Hulk), to reap the financial rewards instead of just a 'rights' payment.

With a second Transformers Film in the pipeline, and a G.I. Joe live action film that is in production, Hasbro is showing that it clearly wants full control over its cartoon properties in order to reap the financial rewards.

The only thing is, are they coming too late to the market?

With films like 'Hancock' and other 'superhero' fare, will one or some of these companies get hurt when the whole genre is oversaturated?

Only time will tell!

Iron Man Film Versus Batman and Superman Films??
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book Movies

So How's The

Iron Man

Film Faring...

Against DC Comics' Comic Book Movies?

Well... we've been telling our Blog Readers that the Iron Man  Film was going to be BIG... AND Worth Waiting For,  AND Watching!

So no surprise to us that  the Iron Man  Film has now reached $178  Million Dollars since its sneak premiere late on Thursday Night on May 1st!

So where does that total place the movie at now?

This blog post will just compare this new Marvel Comics film versus their major competitor in Comics... that of DC Comics films released so far:

  1. Batman ($251 million, #42 all time)
  2. Batman Begins ($205 million, #75 all time)
  3. Superman Returns ($200 million, #83 all time)
  4. Batman Forever ($184 million, #97 all time)
  5. Batman Returns ($163 million, #138 all time)

So Iron Man's start is not bad for a supposed 'second tier' comic book hero from Marvel Comics against the D(istinguished) C(ompetition)'s Films!

Actually according to the latest stats,  Iron Man  was the 10th biggest opening of all time and the fourth biggest for a superhero movie!

Among nonsequels, it came in behind only the first 'Spider-Man 1', which premiered with $114.8 million!

I had promised our blog readers earlier that I would publish a photo of Tina wearing her Iron Man  t-shirt that was distributed at the Special Iron Man Program at the SDCC 2007 (San Diego Comic Con International)!

I ran that photo earlier, actually 2 photos, showing the front and back of the t-shirt.

So I'm only re-running the photo with the front of the shirt at the top right... and a pic of one of the Iron Man  Film Posters below that for those of you that haven't seen that yet!

If you haven't seen our reviews of the Iron Man  film yet, check them out here:

Blogging For Dummies... And What To Do With It!

As previously blogged here, Tina and I have posted some 'reviews' in the eBay Reviews and Guides Section off and on for several months.

So this week I've been reading books on the history of blogging and what additional purposes it can be used for as both Tina and I expand the scope of our operations on this, my 10th Anniversary on the Web!

The book 'Blogging For Dummies' was of course one that I wanted to check out.

Here is my Review that was just posted in the eBay Reviews Section:

A Good Beginning Reference But....

...unfortunately even with a 2006 publishing date, it is out-of-date
already!

This is a good beginning for a wannabe blogger to start with, as with most 'For Dummies' books, it is well researched and written for a beginner level.

Saying that, when using several of the resources mentioned in the book, the resource websites are either on hiatus or re-organization, no longer in existence, or have been merged/bought out by another organization.

That is not the fault of this book. However to pay $21.99 MSRP for a book
that is out-of-date is not a wise investment IMHO!

You should check out your local library before buying this book
on eBay or at a B&M store, as it is a good read for those wanting to know what a blog is, the history, how to blog and then what to do with it! Just be aware that the resources mentioned are out of date....

American Idol's Ryan Seacrest On Larry King Show 05-15-08

American Idol's

Ryan Seacrest

On The Larry King Show!

05-15-08

Last night Ryan Seacrest appeared on the Larry King Show, both to plug the upcoming Finale on American Idol and apparently to plug his productions!

There were many one-line questions thrown at Ryan by Larry so we'll just blog about a few:

Ryan gave quick answers on his opinions of the Top Three Idols. He did compliment Syesha on how she did grow in the competition, unlike others...

Any surprises for the 2 hr Finale next week? - "It's a Live Circus!"

Regarding taping segments - "I'm awful at taping things!" He'd rather do it live.

Vote totals? - Are conducted "by independent firm for tabulation".

Why are vote totals secret? -"Decision at the lawyers."

Worried about competition like Dancing With The Star? - "Dancing is universal. Singing is universal."

He doesn't think the  American Idol Judges will be replaced, just need to adjust the mechanics.

Says Simon couldn't host the show... and gave multiple reasons!

Re: Paula's confusion - A curve ball was thrown at the judges. Last minute decision to have them comment on Round 1 that week.

Why doesn't Simon get as many boos this year? Ryan says he asks the audience pre-show not to boo!

Ryan vs Simon - "The cheap shots are real!"

Who's the winner next week in David vs David -"David will win", ha!

Ryan currently does the following and more:

8 Ryan Seacrest Restuarants, AT40, E! Channel Specials, On-Air with Ryan Seacrest, Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve, Producing Denise Richard's new reality show,  American Idol...

And more! But NOT anything for CNN (re: rumours of his taking Larry King's spot).

If Ryan hadn't gotten into broadcasting he would been a chef!

What's next for Ryan? - Continue to build Ryan Seacrest Productions with more shows!

Show Note: AFTER the Results show for the winner of  American Idol, the winner and finalists will be on the Larry King Show next Friday May 23rd! !

Afflictions That Affect Bloggers!

As previously blogged here, Tina and I have posted some 'reviews' in the eBay Reviews and Guides Section off and on for several months.

So this week I've been reading books on the history of blogging and what additional purposes it can be used for as both Tina and I expand the scope of our operations on my 10th Anniversary on the Web!

The book 'Blogging For Dummies' had some really interesting blog terms that may or may not be known to you.

Here are a few afflictions that I thought would make good reading in this blog post:

Blogathy - "occurs when you become apathetic about posting in your blog. One always hopes that blogathy is temporary".

Blogorrhea - "not to be gross, but blogorrhea is too much insubstantial blogging".

Blogstipation - "is writer's block for bloggers. The condition might be due to a lack of inspiration, as with traditional writer's block, or it might result from exhaustion after blooging too much".

Hitnosis - "the sad condition of obsessively monitoring one's traffic logs is called hitnosis".

The above was some of the funniest parts in this 'Blogging For Dummies' book! I definitely have suffered from 'Hitnosis' on an occasion or two!

There were also other non-humourous terms such as:

Slashdotted - 'in an effect to an instalanche, a citation form the influential site Slashdot that sends so much traffic to the cited blog that its server can become disabled'.

I will be posting a full review this week after trying out several of the suggestions inside...
