Shooting War....

As blogged about before, Tina and I have posted some 'reviews' in the eBay Reviews and Guides Section. The following is one that I just posted today and is being published here also:

This is not my usual type of storyline that I would pick up and read.

Saying that, I found this  Graphic Novel's story to be riveting, the artwork great, and
could hardly put it down once I started!

The politics are not my politics, the curse words are not my normal manner of speaking.... but both of those made this story that much better IMHO.

This is a full-color Graphic Novel. It began as a 'web comic', found an audience and grew from there to the Graphic Novel format. This Graphic Novel is NOT for kids, and not for those that can't listen to a different point of view in politics.

The Graphic Novel starts in the year 2011, when the War On Terror has brought the whole world into conflict. The story follows a video-blogger named Jimmy Burns who finds that he is caught up being a 'war correspondent' via blogging.

He fell into it by filming his blog at a Starbucks in NY that was blown up while he was video-blogging, and from there he finds that his new 'job' is taking him into places he'd rather not be...

ThisGraphic Novel is full of black humor and pointed social commentary. If you are open to reading about what America, the Middle East and the rest of the world could develope into in the years to come, following the next president's election, this could be a good Graphic Novel for you to read!

Not Remotely Controlled....

As blogged about before, Tina and I have posted some 'reviews' in the eBay Reviews and Guides Section. The following is one that I just posted today and is being published here also:

Both Tina and myself enjoy to read, view and blog about Pop Culture!

This book's title jumped out at me while browsing the bookshelves.

This book is a compilation of reviews and essays that the author first
had published in the 'New Republic'.

The subjects of these essays were TV Shows that were topical, (and still are in
most cases).

The reviews and essays were compiled and categorized into different sections, which made it easier to read. The sections included: Cops, Sitcoms, Comedy, Cartoons, Race, Religion, Drama, War, Documentaries, News, Reality TV, Games, Politics, and Personalities!

That was a lot of ground to cover!  Which is probably why I enjoyed the book more than Tina.  I basically had her take a look at it as some of her favorite shows on TV were included:  Lost TV Show, Alias, Invasion, Desperate Housewives, and The Apprentice.

The book is 'OK', in that there are several chapters that may appeal to different readers, or to different fans of the TV Shows that are mentioned inside the other chapters.

This is more of a 'rental' book from a library for the casual reader, unless you are a Big Fan of TV History!

First Day Cover Featuring the Sub-Mariner!
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book History

 First Day Cover

 Featuring

 The Sub-Mariner!

Last Friday night Tina and I attended the May 2nd 2008 Iron Man Film Screening which we have blogged about with a review or two before, LOL!

This past week I was going through our many boxes of items still to list, finding a GI JOE DOG TAG that we listed, and a couple of first day covers that were issued at a Special USPS Program at the SDCC 2007!

What's a First Day Cover you ask?

Well it's the first day of issue for a USPS postage stamp, and when that stamp is applied to an envelope and specially cancelled at wherever the official program is, that ends up with a 1st Day Cover!

We already listed the Iron Man  First Day Cover and blogged about it. Now we have one for the Sub-Mariner that the USPS and Marvel Entertainment collaborated on!  FYI, Tina thinks that the Sub-Mariner is the 'hottest looking' superhero that Marvel Comics has! Which is why she traded her original First Day Cover for the Sub-Mariner one at the program, LOL!

Take a look at the top right for the photo or the actual listing at: FIRST DAY COVER !

Years ago while I was a young kid, my dad had a great coin collection. Not wanting to compete with his, I started a world-wide stamp collection basically from cancelled stamps.

I then realized that I could never collect all the world's stamps and decided to collect USA stamps and bought new stamps as they came out. Back in 1969 San Diego celebrated its' 200th Anniversary and that's when I discovered what First (1st) Day Covers were as my dad and I attended that special USPS program!

I still have that stamp collection, and one day we may start selling that here... in the meantime here's the special Iron Man listing again: FIRST DAY COVER and the Sub-Mariner's FIRST DAY COVER!

The above Sub-Mariner First Day Cover is the one that Tina traded for at the SDCC 2007 special USPS / Marvel Comics Program!

Iron Man Versus Speed Racer!

Iron Man  Versus Speed Racer!

No Contest!

Box Office Results In!

Was having breakfast with Tina before she heads off for another project.

We saw that Iron Man's  2nd weekend gross ticket sales versus Speed Racer's opening debut weekend was shown on our local TV news.

The Iron Man flick did more than twice the amount of Speed Racer's debut! $50.5 Million versus $20.21 Million!

(BTW, Jackie Chan's Hidden Kingdom is hanging in at #8 position!)

We have both reviewed the Iron Man  film, without spoilers at:

Michael's Take

and

Tina's Take

We have not seen the Speed Racer Film yet, as this Mother's Day weekend was a busy one for us.

Additionally since neither Tina nor myself were into the Speed Racer Cartoons on TV, she really isn't overly excited about going.

So either I will go with my youngest son later, or wait for the DVD.  The CGI of the teaser trailers look good, and are probably better on the Big Screen.

Neither one of us want to miss the Opening Weekend for the new Indiana Jones Film that is out in two weeks, so we may not make Speed Racer!

Congrats to the Iron Man Film cast and crew, now with over $342 Million Dollars Gross World Wide!

Today Is My 10th Anniversary On The Web!
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Comic Book History

Today, May 12th 2008 Is My

 10th Year

 Anniversary On The Web!

And whew... man do I feel it! LOL!

Nah, just kidding! But, seriously, it has been 10 years since I built my first web page.  I learned how to do it from my oldest son, who had just learned at school!

So what was my very first web page about?

At the time I was publishing my 'Family Genealogy Newsletter', so I designed and promoted a webpage to support that endeavor!

Not too much later, I realized I could translate my love of comics to a web page to supplement the comic book catalogue I was publishing.

That early experiment led to a full blown comic book domain web site which is still online.

I found eBay and joined up on January 20, 1999!

Eager to learn more, I took Webmaster courses.  I built a web site for my Dad's Whirlibirds craft business, which led to the opportunity to design websites for other crafters!

Websites for companies soon followed that, but then an explosion in newly graduated 'webmasters' domestically and web designers outsourced to India overloaded the supply of webmasters. LOL!

Since then, Tina and I married, and between the two of us, we have several projects on the WWW, including this Blog on eBay, our non eBay Blog, a Book Promotion site, an eBay Featured Store, a comic book web site, and more!

Let me tell you the first 10 years have been exciting!

And here's to the next 10!

I want to thank all of those that got me started on this adventure, which in turn allows me to work anywhere my laptop can get a signal!

For those of you that are new to our blog, we have an ongoing comics and pop culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!
