Ends On Sunday Sept 28th!

Who was Doctor Spektor you ask?

He was a fictional comic book character that appeared in Western Publishing's Gold Key Comics!

Dr Spektor was co-created by the writer Donald Glut and artist Dan Spiegle.

Dr. Spektor's first appearance was in Mystery Comics Digest #5 published in July 1972.

After that first sucessfull appearance, which was only a 10 page story, Dr. Spektor was spun off into his own title, 'The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor'.

His series ran for 25 issues  from May 1973 to May 1982.

Since comic book readership was thought to 'turn over' every 5-6 years the final issue was a reprint of #1.

Another good Gold Key artist, Jesse Santos, had earlier replaced Speigle as the artist on the series, and stayed there for the end of the print run.

Additionally Dr. Spektor appeared in four issues of Gold Key's 'Spine-Tingling Tales'.

In that series he provided  narration for the stories within the comic book.

Dr. Spektor also appeared in one issue of Gold Key Spotlight, issue #8 which we listed tonight for auction, see top left photo.

This was published in August 1977, which unfortunately was his last original appearance in the Gold Key Comics Universe!

Please note that we have a few issues left from a collection we picked up, including one that was high grade enough for CGC grading.

Conan Movie... Where's Red Sonja's! HEROES TV Show Exclusive Comic Book!

A She-Hulk Movie?

Sure!  Especially after what Tina and I saw of the upcoming 'Hulk' Movie at the SDCC program in July!

Click Here to see Tina's 'Take' on that preview program!

(Note: Please Pardon the 'distortion' of the post, eBay has changed blog format again since this was first posted!)

OK, we know that in the late 1980s, Marvel Comics approached Brigitte Nielsen to pose for photographs dressed as the comic book character She-Hulk.

Brigitte had previously impressed the company with her prior portrayal of their character Red Sonja and accordingly they hoped she would prove just as successful in a new movie venture.

Unfortunately the photos that were produced did not enlicit a large amount of investors in the potential film and Marvel was forced to scrap the project.

The middle left photo shows Brigitte modelling a skimpy outfit and I 'photoshopped' the photo to reflect a greenish hue about her, as the She-Hulk is green like her cousin the Incredible Hulk!  You can see that Brigitte definitely had the body double of the She-Hulk at that time!

There are very few pics of Brigitte dressed as the She-Hulk, with the one to the top left being one of those.  As you can see by comparing the two aforementioned photos, Brigitte would have come across very well as the She-Hulk, alter ego of Jennifer Walters, who is a lawyer in her day job.

Since I first blogged about this previous non-movie, there has been some interest in producing a movie with the She-Hulk. We will keep you blogged on details as they come up!

She-Hulk is currently being published in a on-going title, and up to issue #22 this series!

I personally enjoyed the second comics series, which had John Byrne write and pencil the series, where She-Hulk would break the 'fourth wall' and talk to readers of the comics, knowing that she was in a comic book with her adventures being told.  Kind of a strange humour book, but when reading the comic it makes more sense...

That wraps it up for this blog post... But I wanna see She-Hulk in a movie, not her less 'incredible' Hulk cousin's next movie!

Shipping Charge Question !
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: eBay Info

Welcome To Our World! Our Shipments AREN'T delivered by the Batmobile, Just the USPS!

UPDATE

On Our Flat Shipping Rate

After May 14th 2007, when the USPS changed the shipping rates, changed package size rules, and added zone charges, we had to figure out how to handle the increase and changes!

Additionally eBay changed the shipping fields where we could not 'bulk edit' our shipping charges!  I had to go in and manually change almost 3,000 individual listings!

That is when we decided to do a 'Flat Rate' shipping charge, which is a 'field' that can be bulk edited when we have to change shipping charges again!  Which unfortunately looks like the beginning of 2008 at this time!

Just a few minutes ago I received an email from an eBayer on the East Coast.  Please bear in mind we are on the West Coast and that 99% of our sales are comic books, which are either shipped in a bubble wrap envelope with ridgid cardboard insert, or priority mail envelope with ridgid cardboard insert, or in a priority box with protection.

-----------------------

Here is the eBayer's email question:

"Why is shipping so much for this item? I've gotten many comics on ebay before and the shipping cost on this item seems very high, more like what you'd see on a pair of shoes or something heavier. Please explain. I'm in zip 19---, if you can discount the shipping & include shipping insurance I'll bid on it."

Here is my reply:

Thanks for your interest in our listing!
We do not see where the shipping is more than our major competition who are comic book dealers on eBay or their own web site. The majority of those are at $3.95 to $5.99 for shipping. Additionally our $4.99 is for unlimited shipping to USA addresses for unslabbed comics. (CGC and magazines Not included in the unlimited rate.)

Of course the more a buyer purchases, the more cost effective it is for the buyer.  We ship multiple purchases to buyers in the USA who pay us $4.99 flat rate, and we end up shipping in a priority flat rate box for $9.25!

We have almost 3,000 comics listed at any one time in our eBay Store. If you only see the one you want now, then it would probably be better for you to find a seller that will ship the one comic to you for less.

However I did notice that you have bought a comic that was shipped 'media mail' by the eBay seller. Comics contain advertising and are NOT to be shipped media mail per USPS rules.

We have already been warned by the USPS in DC, and our local Postmaster NOT to ship via media mail, and all the postal counter clerks are aware of what we ship.

May 14th, 2007 was the latest change at the USPS. All of our bubble wrap envelopes with rigid cardboard inserts went from First Class to First Class Parcel, a hefty increase in cost to us.

Additionally the USPS went to a 'Zone' charge system. Which meant that shipping from coast to coast now costs more than one state away.

Thus the reason we went to a Flat Rate shipping charge of $4.99 for any quantity of unslabbed comics (no CGC and no magazines).

Thanks again for your interest and email!

------------------------------

At that point I ran out of space to explain further! eBay's e-mail system only allows so many character for reply!

I didn't have enough room to include that we ship one to about three comics, depending on weight, in a bubble wrap envelope with cardboard insert, for the $4.99 flat rate.  At about 3-4 comics we have to go to Priority Envelope per the USPS because of the weight.

It is at that point we use the Flat Rate Priority Envelope with cardboard insert for protection. We still charge only $4.99 yet pay the USPS $5.25 for the postage and the delivery confirmation. We include delivery confirmation receipts with ALL of our packages, as it is protection for both the buyer and the seller.  Additionally we have to pay for supplies that are not provided by the USPS when shipping.

The above e-mail and our reply plus addendum is posted here for reading, because we want our potential buyers to understand what we are doing to adjust to the new USPS rate and shipping size changes of May 14th 2007!  We want to keep the shipping & handling charge reasonable  and feel that we are doing so!

------------------------------

Here are some of our recent feedbacks that pertain to our shipping charges since the May 14th 2007 rate and zone changes by the USPS:

"Fast shipping. Great combined rates. Thank you!"

"Superb service. 9 books exactly as described. Very reasonable S+H. Fast ship."

"Awesome Seller! Super-Fast Shipping, Carefully Packaged, Great Service! Thanks!"

"THANK YOU FOR GREAT BOOK , HIGH GRADE, SUPER SHIPPING-->FAST,LOW COST, AAA++++"

"Beautiful books. As described. Quick and super-safe shipping! A +++++++++++++++!"

--------------------------------

But enough of the praise!  We want to earn your first time business and repeat business. We do truly want to 'Make It So For You'!!

So thanks to those that have read this far in the blog post.  This blog post will be referred to in the future for those that e-mail us regarding our shipping charge.

THE HOUR IS LATE....

...but we have plenty to read because we have several 'Ghost Stories', 'Ghostly Tales', 'Ghosts', 'Ghost Manor', 'Many Ghosts Of Doctor Graves', and other tales!

One of the best HoRRoR Comic Book Titles  was 'Ghost Stories' from Dell Comics.

You know Dell Comics... 'Dell Comics Are Good Comics'... how they went to HoRRoR comics from that tag line remains a mystery to me....???

The Ghost Stories series ran for 37 issues from September 1962 to October 1973.

The series started when mystery and suspense shows were hot on TV, as with Gold Key's Boris Karloff Thriller and Rod Serling's Twilight Zone!

A history note:  Dell Comics did not submit their comics to the CCA, (Comics Code Authority), after other publishers in the mid 1950's did a form of self censorship. So to run a HoRRoR story anthology comic in the early 1960's was an oddity for this company.

The comics in this run are tame compared to those from EC Comics of the early 1950's, but stand up to time when reading today.

Good reading for those that like HoRRoR comics but without all the grim and gritty gore that some publishers print today.

I would recommend this series to those that would like a good mystery read. For you collectors out there, there are not that many high grade copies of this series on the CGC Census, as these comics were not generally stored away properly.  Buy 'em while you can!
