This Issue Is One That Tina Won't Pass Up When We See It In The Back Issue Bins!

Just Listed  It Tonight For The First Time!

It is the last issue of the series that DC Comics published!

Issue #1 of this series started  August / September of 1950  and this final issue was the September / October 1973 issues.

Since we are the proud owners of the smartest parakeet I've ever had, this comic book cover is hilarious to us!!

Tina can't stop laughing whenever she see it in back issues bins, and usually a copy or two ends up in our 'buy' stack. Funny thing is, we've sold multiple copies of this comic to parakeet lovers over the years!!

Just click on the comic book cover to the top left for this issue and other Sci-Fi Comics we have for sale!

Watched This DVD Today While Shipping!

I admit it doesn't have the special effects we are used to today, but it is darn good for its' time!

I saw it as a twelve year old up on Kodiak Island, Alaska at the Navy Base's large screen theater.

At Kodiak Island we had like one TV station that we could get reception for!  So during the 3 years my dad was stationed there, I did see several movies as well as collect comics!

This movie had vivid scenes, and was a great story! It was one of my first Sci-Fi movies and probably one of the reasons why this film genre is still one of my favorites today!

Plus, you gotta place it in time... in 1964 it was still 5 years before Neil Armstrong stepped on the Moon.  The USA and the Soviet Union were racing for that goal, so something set on Mars was really Sci-Fi !

For those that have never seen it, 'Robinson Crusoe on Mars' was a 1964 science fiction film 'retelling' of the classic novel by Daniel Defoe, except it was set on the Planet Mars instead of an island on Earth!

It was fantastically directed by Byron Haskin, and produced by Aubrey Schenck.

The big thing to me as a kid was that storyline was fantastic! There was no need for blood, gore and HoRRoR scenes in this film to get the storyline across!

The film also starred some great acting by actors Paul Mantee as the modern day Robinson Crusoe, Victor Lundin as Friday and Adam West as the second astronaut, (who of course two years later went on to become TV's Batman!).

This may seem like an oddball film with the title of the movie as it is, but there are many Sci-Fi fans that have been waiting for this film to appear on DVD!

Originally in the 'Lower 48 States', this film was paired with other drive-in fare, but don't miss it because of that!

This DVD has been released as a 'Special Edition' on September 18th. Not to be missed!

And no, we don't sell it, but making our blog readers aware of this new release! I definitely enjoyed it today and will re-watch it Saturday night with my youngest son with the 'comments' sound on!

 Comic Book Characters!
Part One:

This Blog is continuing to see more and more New Readers, (Welcome!).

My interest in this media was sparked by my Great Aunt Marge and Great Uncle Howard when I was a kid in the late 1950's.

When my folks would visit them in the LA area, there would be comic books waiting for my brother and me to read!

Which was great, because at our age then, talking with grown-ups was not exactly all that much fun with the questions we would be asked each visit!

Of course the earliest comics would be the cartoon comics!  The Aunt and Uncle would call them all 'funnybooks' no matter what the 'genre' of the comics was. Those earliest comics are where I developed my interest for characters like 'Chilly Willy', 'Huckleberry Hound', 'Woody Woodpecker' etc.

Add to that the 'cartoons' on TV, and the 'cartunes' at the Theater, and you would see that I was exposed quite early to the mediums that would interest me through the rest of my life!

My interest turned to TV Westerns in Comic Book Form. Which was because there were Great Westerns that had Photo Comic Book Covers!  Maverick, Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, Lone Ranger and so much more!

There was an occasional Batman and Superman in the pile of comics... but superheroes were just starting to make a slow comeback after the Flash was restarted in 1956 with Showcase Comics #4.

There wasn't a 'Marvel Comics' then... and their predecessor 'Atlas Comics' was publishing anything they thought were selling at the other publishers... HoRRoR, MoNSTers, War, Westerns, Romance, etc etc....

It wasn't until Journey Into Mystery #72 which featured 'The Glob' that I first realized that Comic Books were drawn by real people!  This one was drawn by Kirby/Ayers.

It was when I received a copy of Fantastic Four #3, (The Flying Bathtub Cover by 'Kirby'), that I realized I wanted to actually 'collect' comics.

Which was a good thing, as my Dad was transferred to a Navy Base on Kodiak Island, Alaska in 1963.  There wasn't much to do there as a kid, unless you were into fishing, crabbing, and hunting all the time.  Trust me, I got sick and tired of having Salmon as the main course real fast!!

It was there that I became a 'Marvel Zombie', which was someone that would buy 'Marvel Comics' almost exclusively. Sure there was an occasional Batman or ACG HoRRoR comic, but Stan Lee and the 'Bullpen' were 'speaking' to me in the Bullpen Bulletins! (LOL.)

We were there for the Earthquake AND Tidal Wave of 1964, when the whole island sank an average of three feet! The comics were a good thing to read during the time school was washed out!  The town of Kodiak itself was cut off from the Navy Base because the only road was washed away to the Ocean!

Then came time to go back to 'The Lower 48'.

(To be continued in Part Two...)

Note: This blog post's colors and 'theme' are of 'The Batman'. Just click on our pic at the top left to see our Batman listings, or the Batmobile pic to see all of our current DC Comics listings!

Almost Sounds Like A Video Game!

But It's Not!

It was a Sword and Sorcery Comic Book feature created by Mike Grell back in 1975!

The Warlord's first appearance was in a DC Comics Book titled '1st Issue Special', in issue #8!

The 1st app of any popular character is always a 'must' for a collector, and we wanted to let you know that our copy of this first appearance was just listed for $9.99 plus shipping on a fixed price listing for 5 days!

Warlord went on to star in his own series for DC Comics in answer to Marvel Comics' success with Conan the Barbarian!

Warlord lasted for 133 regular issues and 6 annuals! That was a long run for this DC title, (1976-89) !

For those interested in Sword and Sorcery or SCI-FI comics, we have several hundred of that comic book genre in our eBay Featured Store !
