Iron Man Movie - Our Take - Part 1

Our Take On The Iron Man Film

Part 1

Michael's Take!

(Note: We will be posting our reviews of the screening of this film separately - Also we will try not to post any spoilers if possible)

Last night we attended the May 2nd 2008 Iron Man Film Opening Day Screening! These are Michael's thoughts only:

1st- The multiple teaser trailers that have been released previously have given away some of the film's best scenes.

So the opening scene is one we've seen snippets of before, thus it is a little 'flat' for opening the actual film....

2nd- The first scenes showing the origin of Tony Stark / Iron Man is a little slower paced, possibly due to the 'realism' that is injected in this storyline.

3rd- The film is NOT 'comic-booky', as other than a small segment of the final act's fight scene, it is very realistic looking! Kudos to the CGI experts!

4th- Regarding the actors:

Robert Downey Jr truly IS Tony Stark, Great!

Paltrow is better as Pepper Potts than what several other critics have said of her so far IMHO.

Howard is just Okay as Rhodey, IMHO.

Jeff Bridges is Outstanding as Stane!

Stan Lee was funny as 'Hef' in his cameo!

Jon Favreau,(the director), sneaks in as 'Happy Hogan', shame his role wasn't expanded...

5th- Parents: This film is truly PG-13. We saw the evening matinee, so there were some younger kids there, and several were scared by the realistic violence via torture and bullets impacting bodies. It is NOT cartoon -comic-booky violence!

6th- Was it Worth the money, time watching the film, and waiting months for for the film???

Yes, Yes AND Yes! I would give it an 8.5 out of 10 points for being an 'Origin Movie'. Very Fine Film!

7th- Note: DON'T leave the theater before the end of the film's credits!  You Marvel Fans DON'T want to miss the final scene shown AFTER the credits!

8th- I was Very Happy to see in the credits that the Iron Man creators were listed: Stan Lee, Don Heck, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby!

Come back for Part 2 where Tina blogs her review!

Designing Your Templates / Blogs / Stores For Monitor Resolutions

Designing Your Templates / Blogs / Stores For Monitor Resolutions!

The below is from our February 19th 2008 archived blog post. I have been asked on others' blog posts this morning to clarify what I meant about tweaking a store's design, or blog banner, or listing template when a few bloggers were asking for advice or input.

(Please note:  I am not claiming to be an 'expert' on this subject. I have taken several web master classes and designed several web sites in the past. I don't offer my services on this as we are busy buying/listing/selling/shipping our items on eBay and our non eBay web sites.)

I also didn't want to take up others' blog posts to go more in depth on the questions, so I am reposting the following that explained further about why templates / blog banners / store headers etc don't appear like you think they would:

---------------

Repost: Our Blog Posts Display Resolution Revised!

Due to the fact that we currently blog on two different blog formats, an eBay and a non-eBay Blog, we are making the following changes in our Blogs:

We have been formatting in a larger display resolution, which when the eBay Techs revised the eBay Blogs last year (2007), resulted in our archived blog posts becoming distorted when viewed by those using smaller resolutions on their computers.

Additionally there are some bloggers out there that still have their monitor's or laptop display resolution set at a much smaller setting than a lot / most people currently have now.

The current trend is that more and more desktop and laptop computers are using a screen size of 1024x768 pixels or more as shown in the below table:

2007Higher1024x768800x600640x480Unknown

January6%40%47%    2%5%

2002
October 6%38%49%2%5%

Ever since the eBay Techs changed the blog format back in mid September 2007, I have added a  disclaimer that this Blog is written for IE Browsers primarily. Please see our previous blog post for that discussion:

Now we will be adding to the disclaimer that the blog post would be best to be seen in 1024 x 768 display resolution or higher, which 80% of computer users have their screen set at or higher.

We cannot write our blog posts or web site pages to fit all browsers and display resolutions, thus we are re-setting our display resolution to the current average resolution being used of 1024 x 768.

Screen Resolutions are not the only thing that is evolving in technology advances... For example, currently there is a DVD war going on between HD and Blue-Ray DVD formats, until one win out over the other that industry is in flux! Especially when you can buy a HD player for $120 and the cheapest Blue-Ray Player is approx $300!  Anyone remember the Betamax vs VHS War?!  (Update 05-03-08: Blockbuster is going to Blue-Ray by the end of 2008 so the war should be over shortly after that...)

Thus, our disclaimer that is set in each of our blog post will have that the blog post is best seen with the resolution as mentioned above as follows:

NOTE:  This Blog Post May Not Be Viewed Properly On YOUR Screen Due To the Changes eBay is Making on the Blog Format At this time OR in the Future!  Additionally, this blog post is written for IE Browsers. Netscape, Firefox and the others serve the page up differently. The screen display resolution is best seen at the setting of 1024 x 768.

We Want To Thank The

 132,000th

Visitor...

To Our Pop Culture And Comics Blog!

I was up early this morning after having toooo much popcorn at the Opening Day Screening of the Iron Man Film last night...

So just noticed that our small niche pop culture and comics blog reached the 132,000 th visitor a few minutes ago.

(That would be 132,000 visitors, NOT page views. There have been 246,800 page views of our 2,500+ archived blog posts per our stats counter. The eBay counter says 387,768 views, but that number is not verifiable.)

The visitor was from the New Jersey area and viewed our "Vampira's Passing Is Becoming Known..." archived blog post of January 15th 2008!

(For those that don't know, Vampira was the forerunner to Elvira as a HoRRoR TV Show Hostess.)

We want to thank that blogger as well as ALL of the others who have come to view our blog posts since we started keeping stats on July 15, 2006!

Having bloggers come in and view our blog posts make our day!

For those of you new to us, we have an ongoing pop culture - comics convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and please visit our blog again!

This Female Dynamic Duo...

...is being looked at more and more in our archived blog posts. Not enough to make the Top 10 in interest, but being an 'older' TV Show, and not in syndication that I'm aware of... I'm wondering if there is a possible remake going on???

This live action TV show was created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears.
The show was originally shown as part of the Krofft Supershow that aired for two seasons, 1976 - 1978!
The 8 stories were shown via 16 episodes, with the first one shown in 1976!
Deidre Hall who played in the soap 'Days of Our Lives' was Electra Woman, and Dyna Girl was played by Judy Strangis.
The two of them in their alter-egos of Lori and Judy, were reporters for 'Newsmaker' Magazine.
Believe it or not, in the year 2000, there was a pilot made for a possible series on the WB!
Markie Post was the New Electra Woman for that pilot!

So possibly there is an another renewal of interest in them now for 2009??

Our Take On The Iron Man Film - Part 2 !

Our Take On The Iron Man Film

Part 2

Tina's Take!

(Note: We will be reviewing the screening of this film separately - We will attempt from posting any spoilers!)

Back from the May 2nd 2008 Iron Man Film Screening!

"Two Thumbs Up - Both of mine" says Tina!

I love a good origin movie (think Spider-Man 1 and Batman Begins, as opposed to The Incredible Hulk.)

And, this is a good origin movie.  The character development was involving and entertaining.

Robert Downey Jr is spot-on as the snarky playboy.  It's a dream cast of Academy Award winner and nominees.

The story is well played.  We walked away feeling that we saw a movie - an action movie - not a "comic book" movie.

For me, the casting of Terrence Howard seemed a little off - who knew Rhodey was a metrosexual - but Howard does a fine job.

Favorite scene: when Iron Man fires up in the red and gold for the first time - it's exhilarating.

Favorite movie moment: Stan Lee's cameo - watch for him on the red carpet at Stark Industries' charity event.

Best line: the last line of the movie. (I won't ruin it for you.)

One final note: The picture is rated PG-13. I would strongly caution parents to leave the young ones home.  While much of the violence is off-screen.  You know people are being killed; you don't see them dying.  However, there are two rather disturbing torture scenes - definitely not suitable for young ones.

Overall, I enjoyed it! Tell us what you think if you have seen it!
